You guys are way too serious about all this.
That is spot on and you could not be more correct. ;)

If we weren't serious, we wouldn't have the systems we have.

    No.

Watched it at a saloon on Chartres. After the game we could hear the roar from Bourbon St. as we were crossing Esplanade into the Marigny. Gawd, what a night!

To the OP mod the XO's. I do them for more than a fair price if you are not comfortable doing them.
    Ben

That is something I would be very interested in. I just don't have the time to do something like that, I work offshore on a 28-28 rotation, and my off time is very busy. The main reason I can't audition equipment like everybody says you should. Just no time for it.

    How would that work??

I'm finally starting to get a start on this little project. Just small stuff right now, but I am starting to hear some decent improvements.

The first thing I did was to re-check the cartridge alignment on my TT and made some adjustments there. Then I bought a new mat for it, a Herbie's Audiuo Lab mat. It's 3.7mm thick, and seems to be just about the perfect height. I have no way to actually measure this, but just from eyeballing it, it looks to be right on the money. These 2 things have actually made quite an improvement in the sound of my TT. I love it.

Next, I bought a brand new Furman Elite 15 PF I filtering power source. Not connected to the system yet, breaking it in with a small load. Hook it up later when I get the right stuff in the rack.

Getting the xover's upgraded in my LSi9's. ben62670 of Club Polk is going to do that for me. Since I will have 2 empty speaker stands while he is doing that, I bought a set of NHT Classic 3's to audition, just for the hell of it. Nice speakers, they sound OK right now, I think they will sound better after they are borken in though.

Going to try my tube amp in place of the Emotiva XPA-2 (text dripping with blood). I bought a matched set of brand new Genalex KT88 Gold Lion tubes for it (Russian-made, re-issue). I want to get all the Chinese tubes out of there and replaced with some high quality stuff (I don't know if Chinese tubes are any good or not). Have to play that one by ear.

Another thing I've done is buy an Audyssey AS-EQ1 to ease the problems of integrating the sub into the system. This thing works great. Setting up the sub was a no-brainer. I think I might like to have stereo subs eventually. This thing can handle 2 subs, and I can use my NHT X2 crossover to get the stereo bass signal to it. I've attached the Audyssey calibration sheet for the cal I just did if anybody wants to look.

So, what do you guys thhink??

Am I making any progress, or going in circles??

    Sorry for the long post.

Galen Carol Audio is located in San Antonio: http://gcaudio.com/index.html

Perhaps schedule an appointment and see what total systems they can offer you at say $5000, $7500, and $10000 price points?

Also could see what source and amplification (and possibly cables) they could offer you to match your current Polks too.

Even if a dealer only can offer you a modest discount off of retail, it might end up being cheaper than getting on the audio merry go round of randomly matching whatever component happens to be getting great reviews at any particular time. You may find that you are happy with the sound of the system put together by an experienced dealer and not feel the urge to upgrade for years to come.

    Good luck!

    :)

    indeed!

It would be nice to be able to go around and audition different equipment like that, but it really isn't an option for me. I just don't have the time to do it that way. Fortunately, cash isn't a problem, and I enjoy doing it the "wrong" way.

You really know how to make friends around here, don't you? I gave you some good advice. If you wish not to follow it, I could care less.

H9 knows more about audio than you could ever dream to. How do I know that about you, you ask? I've read your posts.

if you got nothing better to do than go around and read post by specific people just to pass judgment then man what ever. so far you are the only one that has been an issue on this forum. all the rest have been straight forward and curtious. h9 didnt care for me saying he was an **** but i didnt care for the arrogance of some one saying 10k wasnt a major upgrade in a guys face that was clearly stoked about offing a few grand on a toy. neither of which conversations were any of your concern. if this is what it takes to weed out the "bertha better than yous" then unfortunatly so be it. have a good one man im sure you have other folks to check up on.

honestly man no offence to anyone here. im sure she is very helpful behind the scenes. however im not sure the behind the scene thing even remotely correlate to having the knowledge base to get into and derail a technical discussion. so far all ive seen post wise are paraphrases of otheres knowledgable statements and smart quips that have 0 (zero) to do with the topic at hand. i can appreciate the position of "life endeavour" as that is what it takes to maintain a 6 post a day average but i cannot ignor that 10 posts last night were inflamatory and down right rude. just my two cents man.

Yeah, ya keep saying that. But I sure as hell NEVER see that. I continually read pompous, ****-hat posts. Sorry, but I call it as I see it. ;) How long would you recommend a member be here in order to see this beautiful flower blossom :D. Sorry, but there is the same group of you guys that gets along and sucks up to each other, but as I stated before...If someone has a different opinion from you guys....holy ****! You better run for the hills because the same 10 people or so will all gang up and continue to tell you how much smarter they are than you ;) I think some of you need to chill out...take a break from computer a bit and get some fresh air...Seriously, it will do wonders.

Anyway, Now back to your regularly scheduled program :)
