The getting of a bonus is wonderful. The TV was a great gift. But we must remeber that the real reason for the season is to celebrate the birthday of Christ.

I hope that all of you in Club Poke and your loved ones have a very Merry Christmas.

Wow... a 54" TV... A bonus I'd have no use for. Probably wouldn't even open it... just sell it and get the cash.

My boss gave each of us in the department a $50 AMEX gift card, and treated us to lunch. The company doesn't do bonuses or gifts, and I'm sure that the above was paid for directly from his pocket.
    Ludicrous gibs!

First time in 5.5 years my dept director hasn't given us all Christmas gifts, but he had twins (to go along with his other 2 kids) this year, so I'm betting every last dime of his $ is under the tree, so I don't blame him....

Man that is a NICE bonus. I like getting cash, but it's about as much fun to get something you might want, but would never buy yourself otherwise.

I think you need to Karma off the T.V I'm sure you already have one so I would like to be the first to say IN PLESE!!!!!!!!! j/k that was very generous of your boss to do that I'm shocked that someone would take the time and effort to think of their employees like that especially in times like these. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

For all the guys complaining about no Christmas bonus just be thankful you have a job in these hard times. I gave my guys a Christmas card and took them out for a beer.

The 60 bucks I paid for the beer was greater than my total earnings for the year. All I ended with for the year was an additional $20k on my home equity line to help pay THEIR salaries. Of course they don't know that because I don't want them to panic so don't talk about the finances of the company much.

I think it's a little thoughtless to publicly advertise how great life is for one's self, while there are people struggling to get by. Some of those people may even work for the guy doing the bragging.

It is in poor taste and rather self-centered.

    /.02

That's a bit much I'd say. He was excited he got a nice gift; that's all. We talk about the new amp we got or the new projector we got; how is that any different?

Should I call everyone on here who has better gear than I do self-centered if they talk about it? No sir. So what if someone has a beautiful 7 channel 200w Sunfire I'd die to have but can't afford. It's simply motivation for me to save more, piss away less and get one of my own......

And I have been through financial hell this year thanks to an ex, so I know full well what the crappy side feels like...

    Meh. You may be right.

I have been thinking about it since before Christmas when this post originated.

So many people are suffering out there. I don't fault NotaSuv for his achievement, just his public display of good fortune at time when giving, not receiving, should perhaps be the focus. So many people receive so little and work just as hard.

My apologies if the OP or anyone else is offended.

I salute NotaSuv for doing such a great job that his bosses saw fit to reward him handsomely and not be ashamed of getting it. You sound like a left winger who thinks all people regardless of work ethic should share everything equally.

Hearingimpaired - I agree with the part about doing a great job and being rewarded and such. The part about left wing and such is just bunk.

I think a lot of folks are a little sensitive that are out of work. I went to yearly Christmas party and saw some friends that I hadn't seen in a year. These are all upper middle class people. Couldn't believe how many said they'd been laid off or businesses doing poorly, etc. Wives going back to work - bet that played well in the domicile. People are hurting and those that are have a different perspective.

Are you still working? At the same rate of pay or better than 2008? You don't have to post the answers, but they will say a lot about your personal perspective. Don't know where you came up with that left wing crap - very off base.

Best wishes for all to have a better 2010! :):)

    Chris

I'm right on with what was stated as sounding like left wing crappola.

To answer your question. I am poor. I am on Social Security Disability. I squandered my 401K and pensions in my youth and take full responsiblity for it. I worked for over 30 years until I became disabled, most of it in executive management in the IT field. I'm able to live off of my disability because I paid into the SSI system since I started working when I was 14 years old.

I feel for people who don't have a job WHO WANT TO WORK but are unable to because of the economy. I've been through that a few times in my life and made the best of it with unemployment benefits (sometimes none), working as a dishwasher to make ends meet when necessary. So I don't need to be lectured about humility nor do I think someone who is doing well should keep his mouth shut about it.

When I was laid off, I didn't get on people or were envious of those who were lucky enough to be working and thriving in their jobs. I put one foot in front of the other until things got better.

There is nothing worse than wanting to work but can't.

    End of rant.

Aw,C'mon Joe...you have more in ya.:)

People shouldn't be angry at the ones surviving and doing well. They should be mad at those who promised the economy and unemployment would turn around if we spent nearly a trillion dollars. They should be mad at the promiss of creating 5 million jobs that has not materialized.

I guess we are supposed to worry about others feelings who have maybe been layed off, fired, for whatever reason. I'm layed off,and only worked 5 months all of '09. Doesn't offend me to hear of someone doing well. Glad for the OP he has a job and doing well. Point being, direct your hurt feelings at yourself or those who are trusted to get the economy rolling again, not those who have a good job.

Once again, and to be absolutely clear, I want to apologize to the OP or anyone else my first post may have offended. Upon reflection, it was judgmental and could be construed as a personal attack. I did not intend for it to be that at all. A reminder that less fortunate, hard working, very deserving people may not be so fortunate, yes. But I came off as judging the OP's character which is neither my place nor my intent.

As to the political indictment, I think it safe to say I am in disagreement with the more vocal lot here. But I am far from left wing. I'll leave it at that.

I am sincerely sorry for de-railing this thread.

All other employees are contractors for us not our employees they operate their own biz and unlike franchises we do not charge a ton up front.$1000 gets you 7 days of training including SevSafe cert for 16 hour class which i teach, and turn key equip package. We have accounts that do over 20k a week, over a million a year and our accounts in Whole Foods do very well for the contractors. Most contractors are making 65-150k a year not too shabby for rolling sushi. So we dont screw anyone with bs upfront costs, check mailed to them every month, we have grown over 25% the past 3 years and will exceed that this year..we have been turning away biz...have been very lucky to happen upon the perfect job...this after 25 years in not so great jobs....at 52 I've paid my dues and now it pay back time :)

Dude, this is a great post, because you know what? Until I read this I wasn't sure there was anyone out there who could relate.

There are some really **** bosses out there, but most of the ones I know are very generous people who appreciate their employees more than they'll ever know. I'll bet everything I have that you wished to God you could have given your employees more this year.

Sometimes it's just not possible, and even still you took 'em out for a drink while you're probably scared out of your mind about the economy and when this **** is all gonna end, etc.

Our business is down 47% this year. Most of the guys have been working 30 hour weeks in order for the whole crew to keep their jobs. The good thing is they all understand that times are tough and that it's not just some evil conspiracy to screw them out of what they "deserve." They know we've always been generous in the past and that we wish we could have given them more this year.

Yep, hardly anyone on this forum knows guys like you are kicking in 10s of thousands of dollars of their own savings and even borrowing against their homes to keep their businesses afloat and their employees employed in this economy. If you lose your business they simply lose their jobs. What do you lose? A hell of a lot more. That's why CEOs make more than janitors.

I'm really happy that there are people who are doing well who can get great stuff. What's sickening is watching people whine they didn't get something good enough. I get that some employers don't appreciate their employees, but truly be thankful you have a job no matter what your boss is like. If you hate it that much, quit and work for someone who will appreciate you more.

There's no bigger kick in the balls to a boss who is generous than employees who expect a gift. You should never expect anything other than the paycheck you earned. You'll be a lot more appreciative of the times you get nothing more than a fruit basket rather than whining about it. Sometimes that's all your boss can afford and it pains him more than you'll ever know that it's all that he could.

    Merry Christmas
