Have Sony Sub SA-WX700
Understand there is a known problem with this model. R830 & C860 burns out on Power Amp board. Located R830 but can not find C860. What is the white glue like substance all over the components. i think this substance might be covering C860

C860 being a capacitor? If so, that thing is done for and has leaked over itself.

I'd personally buy a new sub, btw welcome to CP!

this White Glue like substance was from factory. Almost like they put it on components to keep them from vibrating

It could be for helping with heat dissipation like on a motherboard for cpu's. When you mention that and that it keeps blowing out I want to say it is a mosfet. If that is the case make sure to replace them all. I second getting a new sub.

Is it a glue? I know I've seen that around power transformers and the sort, but that's me assuming that it looks like some type of hot glue.

At first I thought it was the type of battery acid looking stuff that you get from batteries when leaving them inside an object too long.

Honestly though, ready for a new subwoofer? :)

i am thinking of doing just that. Only thing that rubs the wrong way is I only used this sub a little while & packed it up for two yeras while building a new house. i ourchased new TC80i's for in ceiling but would have liked to get a few years out of the Sony Sub

R830 with same resistance but higher wattage & C860 with the same capacitance but a higher voltage. If it is polarized or bipolar make sure you replace with the same type. Just be prepared for some thing to blow farther down the circuit path. You never know, if one part fails what does it say about the rest of the components. Or it could be totally fine after that.
