new Mustang

My division of the company I work for was sold, and I've gotten an offer to work
for the new company at the same pay. Now that It looks like I'm
still employed, I'm thinking about a new car in 2010. The wife want's a sports car,
since we have never owned one since being married 28 years ago.
We have looked at several. So the question is, who here owns/has driven one of the newer models.
I like the car pretty well other than one item.
I've rented one for work and test driven some. I keep hiiting my damn knee
on the column tilt adjuster. OUCH! anyone else have this problem?
The other car that I'm really thinking about is a bit bigger, the Dodge
Challenger. We took out a couple of used Vettes(fun but not practical in any form)
Camaros(great looking from the outside, didn't like driving it) and
a few foreign cars that did nothing for me. So it's the Challenger VS. the Mustang.

    Get a 370z not a mustang they blow. I have been ridden around in a z and worked on several for audio install very nice cars. Very fun as well. But for gosh sakes not a mustang.

    I would definitely vote for the Mustang over the Challenger. Personally, I think I like the looks a little more, and it's a LOT lighter and more nimble. I'm sure the Challenger would be a lot of fun from a brawler stand point, and don't get me wrong I'd love that, but the Mustang, at least with a manual should be fun from that regard, too, AND be able to handle.

    However, if you're interested at all, I would personally check out the 370Z as well. Looks great, is light, powerful, nimble, etc.

    For the money I would go for the Mustang. I like Fords over Dodge. Make sure you wait until the smoke clears at work before committing. These are uncertain times.

    I would lean toward the Mustang over the Challenger for a few reasons:
    1. Better resale value
    2. More available upgrades for the motor
    3. Handles better
    4. Been around longer(who knows what problems are going to evolve from the challenger)

    Look into the special editions for the mustangs, Saleen, Rousch, Cobra.
    Most of them only hear how loud it sounds, and the rest of us hear everything else - :rolleyes:

    370Z's are nice, if you're into taking your clothes off and slathering yourself in chicken grease everytime you want to squeez into the driver seat. it's about as practical as **** on a bull. you're wife will be as comfortable as George Bush at a Code Pink rally in that car.

    if your going to go impractical, get a vette for god's sake and do it right.

    anyhoo, in all seriousness, I bought the Mustang and love it (2007). it's fast enough to get anyone arrested, and the new ones handle like the dickens for a entry level GT car.

    you can upgrade whatever you like. the 2010's come from the factory with really nice suspensions and brakes (if you get the track pack...GET THE TRACk PACK). You get the support of the best aftermarket of any car...period. want a supercharger to get 450 hp to the wheels???? click a mouse or find a guy to install it.

    the track pack does most of the upgrades I did to my car without having to go aftermarket like I did.


    p.s., I actually like the 370Z and respect it as a car, just dont tell bigaudiofanatic. I went with the Mustang for customizations (without spending HUGE money). the only upgrade for the Nissan under 3 grand is fuzzy frikkin dice.

    Having owned several Mustangs, and several other Ford vehicles over the years as well as having driven several of the current generation Mustangs...that would be my choice.

    As far as reliability as mentioned above...my last two daily driven Fords (one a Mustang 5.0 LX) combined have well in excess of 320,000 miles and 16 years of service with relatively minor mechanical problems. Very reliable. I have several friends with the current generation of Mustangs...both the GT and the V6 and they are fun cars to drive...both straight line and the twistys. There are other good choices as mentioned...but the Mustang holds it's own against them in various ways. Good luck in whichever way you go.

    between the Challenger and the Stang, I prefer the Stang. I did test drive the Challenger (RT). drove nice, a little plush and soggy compared to the Stang. The aftermarket options just arent readily available like the Mustang. It's heavy (and feels it too). I would call it a sweet **** cruising car though. It looks sexy a hell, can't take that away from it, it just doesn't seem like what your looking for.

    nothing is sadder than someone talking smack about a car saying one is so much better than the other and he never drove either of them. He wouldnt know real driving if it drove through his house, and by house I mean either:

    Look at the SRT8's from Chrysler Corp. they have several models with the SRT8 drivetrain.

    The funny thing is man your wrong. I own a honda civic ex coupe. I have been researching for a new car for a while now and the Nissan keeps coming up as a great choice. Next time ask before talking. :rolleyes::p

    The 370z is a real sports car.

    Do you want a sports car, or a muscle car? If a muscle car is what the OP wants, than the Mustang is a great choice.

    I guess I could say that the Honda Civic Ex coupe is about as cool as plaid pants if I wanted to be a dick, but I actually have class.......and I never drove a Honda Civic. getting my point yet?

    Indeed concealer, I went to cali and drove around in a z for 3 days that thing is so much fun. But yes if you want a muscle car that can go fast in a straight line and have rattles in the interior than go with the mustang or the challenger. Both have had recalls I might add.

    LOL I never said I pushed it to the limit. And where did I say I won it lol:p Do not worry I am just giving my 2 cents about the topic at hand. Also one reason I am getting rid of my civic is because I hate being though as a racer as you are calling me.

    Just one more thing, I do audio systems at least 2 a week do you know how many cars I have test driven? A lot and the mustang was one of them so was the z.

    I made mention of an XKR earlier and this would be my personal choice, but of the cars the OP was talking about, it would be the Mustang before the Dodge.

    But anyways.... to answer the OP's question: Mustang over Challenger. The Challenger is so huge it's ungodly, and just feels like driving a boat to me. Yeah, it may be faster, but who cares? It doesn't sound as good, it's too big, it's too heavy. The Mustang is a truer driver's car.

    this sums it up pretty good. i tried the Z when looking for a sports car (350Z at the time). it was actually first on my list.

    nice ride, handled great (and the 370 should be better given the shorter wheelbase and wider stance). The Z remains a true bargain as a pure sportscar.

    Alas, I was too big for it. I originally wrote off the Mustang in my search until I did some homework and found that they drastically improved handling over the previous models (pre 2005).

    I then test drove one. I was anticipating a handling train wreck but was stunned when I threw it in the turns. was it Z car nimble? no, was it better than any muscle car I ever drove? yep.

    I then researched suspension upgrades, and the aftermarket in general an found that you could make the car anything you want. The car from the factory is a practical blank slate.

    some mild engine mods, rear gears, Watts Link, and Saleen Suspension package later, I have a car that is fast enough and handles brilliantly. And I am comfortable as hell driving it. For me, it was just a win.

    The fact that you can do so much to the car was the biggest sell for me. that and a well built stiff as hell chassis to start with.

    I wouldnt call the Mustang a Muscle car per say, I would lump it in as a 2 door grand tourer (so does Ford, hence the GT badge) the suspension upgrades I did make it close enough to a sports car for me to grin ear to ear when driving it.

    So many tags I could be adding to this thread right now... what a shame. :D

    If you choose the Mustang and in the end feel that it's lacking a certain something there is no need to worry. You can get pretty much anything you want for it in the aftermarket to make it do whatever you want. Your options will be far greater as ohskigod has already mentioned.
