I currently have LSi15, LSiC and LSiFX and want to replace with Paradigm Signature S8 v2, C5 and ADP3 speakers.

I want to know if the sound quality is better enough to compensate for more $. I appreciate anyone's input who has listened to Polk LSi series and Paradigm Signature series. Is it woth the $ difference to replace LSi series with Pradaigm Sig series? Thanks in advance.

Hi! Welcome to the forum! I have all around LSi packages too. LSi really depends on how good of the amp and preamp you power them with for stereo (2 channel) listening. But Paradigm S8 V2 would be a step above from LSi if you are seriously considering to spend a lot more.

But if you want to spend the amount of coins for Signature 8 V2, I think you should look more since there are lots of other speakers out there with probably better sonic characteristics for the same coins. If you are getting serious discount on the S8 V2, it's probably worth upgrading to S8 V2 and I'd say go for it.

    Thanks Megasat16.
I am using Earthquake amp that can push 600w/ch at 4ohms and have Anthem D2v processor. I like the LSI series but I have heard a lot of good reviews about the Paradigm Sig S8 speakers and would like to get some real life feed backs. But I am not shure if the Paradigm Sig series will give enough quality for the $ difference.

I've heard the S8 V2 in stores but not at home. Hearing in store and hearing at home is not the same thing. But S8 V2 sounds very nice but for a lot more coins.

Earthquake amps are also well reviewed and highly praised but I haven't heard any. Anthem Processor is very nice too. I guess flip the coins and take the S8 V2 if the discount is very attractive in this economy. You can't go wrong with Paradigm Signature Speakers.

When you heard it in store, did you see a big difference in sound quality comparing to your LSis?

I did not hear S8 V2 and LSi side by side at the store. They don't carry LSi lines.

I have tried LSi25 with Mark Levinson 335 amp, 380s preamp and Pioneer DV-79AVi and it makes the LSi25 completely disappear with very pleasant soundstage, width and imaging. I guess Paradigm S8 V2 would probably be better but keep in mind, LSi is very natural speakers with a bit on the warm side.

Thanks Megasat16. I appreciate it. I will get the Paradigm if the discount is very attactive. otherwise I believe the difference in sound quality is not worth the extra $.

I'm not a fan of Paradigm's house sound, be sure to give them a good listen before making the purchase.

But what exactly you don't like about paradigm so I can be more careful with that.
Also would you prefer Lsi series over Paradigm series?

The S8's and the LSi's are not in the same class so it's not really a fair comparison. The Lsi's are nice for the money and very nice indeed. The S8's well I feel there are to many better speakers out there for that kind of money.

Here is my personal opinion of Paradigm. I Install them almost every day. I have done everything in there lines. I have done a few S8's and i was not impressed at all. For that kind of money I'd rather have so many different speakers. I could write out a list that would knock your socks off but....Paradigm shines at in wall , on wall , in ceiling and sub woofers. If you are considering the S8's , look at the Signature W5's. These speakers are unbelievable. I have Installed just a few weeks ago with a Anthem D2v2 and a P5 amp. It was awesome and blows away the S8's all day long twice on Sunday , 3 times on Saturday and about 4 times on Wednesday night. It's shocking that a company who makes some of the very best in wall , in ceiling and on wall speakers I have ever heard yet fail terribly when they make a floor standing speaker. I don't get it. You would think the S8's the Studio 100's and the Monitor series 11's would sound incredible if you listened to al there other speakers. Even the mighty Studio 20's are breath taking. I really like them a lot. Then you go sit in front of the Studio 60's the 100's and you think to yourself...."WHAT HAPPENED?".
So My advise is look elsewhere if floor standing speakers are what you want or need. If not those W5's are sick dude. Even the Mighty Studio series Esprit are nasty man. I did a 9.2 system with them and I almost wanted to buy them that day. WOW how good they are.
So can LSi compete here? No. LSI are outclassed at this level of Sonic ability. So stepping up with Paradigm is a good thing.

    Welcome to the Club!

The Paradigm Signature S8 v2 are in a higher class than the LSi15s.
Lsi are comparable to the Paradigm Studio 100s. The S8 are great speakers, but to get the best out of them you need an Amp and CD player on the same level.

The LSi15 are great $1700.00 speakers, but its unfair to compare to the
    $6700.00 S8 v2 speakers. I think the Studio 100s are $2500.00.

I owned a pair of S8 v1 in a beautiful cherry. I think I had them about a year and they were disappointing to me. I was driving them with almost everything in my sig except the pre. Had another McIntosh pre at the time (C2200).

I listened to them with nearly the same gear at the dealer which sold me. Unfortunately, the dealer had a room to die for. Traps and sound walls which tamed the brittle highs. The S8 was flabby in the middle and down right lame in the bass. The killer for me was the tweets. I could not listen for more than an hour or two at the most before my ears hurt. I do need to say that I have some hearing damage which is sensitive to any speaker with a metal tweeter.

I could not get these speakers to sound right in my house no matter what I tried. That is not to say they may not work in your room. They may, and you may like the sound. I also believe they would make a fine HT speaker which it appears your doing. I did not use them in that manner.

If your planning on dropping 6K on speakers, take a breath and listen to some other speakers. Dynaudio, Martin Logan and PMC come to mind. Going from a 1.5K speaker to 6K requires careful auditioning and there can and will be a difference.

The guy who bought the S8 from me frequents this site and he may chime in with an opposing view which I hope he does to give you another owners view.

    Good luck, Gordon

Hello Hawkeye, I remember you saying that you owned the Paradigm studio 100 v1 and that you did not find the tweeter offensive. But the s8 (a lot more$) is. I own the 100 v2's and while also being sensative to metal domes I found a way to live with them.I think all metal tweeters reguardless of the brand or manufacturer will be brighter sounding than other designs.Even with tube equipment.

I am sure Face's LSi would be a step above many factory stock LSi. If you spent reasonable amount of money for LSi crossover upgrade, they could compete with most premium speakers from Paradigm and Dyna.

Electrostatics and Planar Speakers are in a different league and comparing boxed type speakers to them is not a fair comparison.

The Polk Audio LSi-15's were one of the first true high end loudspeakers that I've ever owned. I remember gawking at the then brand spanking new series in a Polk brochure and saying to myself "Man, It would be cool to own those speakers one day!" That was around 2001 or so, when I was still just a teen working a minimum wage job. At the time, buying into those kind of products was just a far off dream. Thankfully though, some situations changed and approximately a year later, those bad boy LSi's were mine. You could say that this is what started the spiral down the path towards audiophiledom.

As I went down ye old traditional path of bringing home tons of different gear and speakers, the LSi-15's I once lusted after ended up taking long term residents in my parents HT. Hmm.. so much for that eh? Throughout the years, this is where they have served their duty, largely ignored by yours truly.

Well, yesterday I unplugged the speakers and took them to the digs. I plugged them into about $14,500 worth of McIntosh gear (along with nearly $2,000 in MIT cables) and what can I say... I'm re-discovering these speakers all over again. Wow, I forgot just how damned good these things are for the money. Although it does seem to take a disproportionate investment in electronics to bring out all of their beauty, there is no denying how good these things can be when done right.

So how good are they? Well, let's just put it this way. I have a set of $14,000 towers on hand at the moment that have been displaced. No, I won't give out the name of those towers (either here, or in the PM), but they are from a fairly respectable brand. I've been listening to the LSi-15's play music all day, and while I can safely say that they are far from perfect, they get a lot of things right. Sometimes, its good to get back to your roots.

Much respect, Polk LSi-15... I'm glad I found you again!

I started out with bi-amping with stereo ss amps and reducing the signal strength to the tweeter/midrange.That helped a little. Then I added a tube pre,and that helped a little more. Then I rolled tubes until I found a combination that helped a little more. Adding it all up now they sound acceptable (to me). Other people think now they sound too laid back! My room is well damped also. So it all works for me and my sensative hearing.

Would give me some suggestions which speakers to look for. I appreciate it.

It really depending on to many factors. Your room , your music , your movies. What do you listen to most? How good is the rest of your system you wanna connect great speakers to?

Once we achieve this things , I can give you a list of speakers to try out.
But at the Paradigm level of speaker in general I would look at

    1) Dynaudio
    2)Totem
    3) Martin Logan
    4) B&W
    5) Vienna Acoustics
    6) Sonus Faber
    7) Focal
    8) Revel

This is a fantastic list for music first speakers. For theater first speakers

    1) Definitive Technology
    2) Triad

    4) Alantic Technology
    5) Klipsch Reference THX

Interesting list. I like learning. Why PolkAudio not listed?
I had Klipsch Reference THX, Martin Logan and Quad and today this happy with LSi.
Is there any particular reason to exclude from their lists PolkAudio.
    Thanks

I am pretty sure that Polk was not listed as those are other brands of speakers that are worth checking out if you are looking for speakers in the $7,000 range. Polk does not currently have any offerings in that price class...
    Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
    Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
    Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
    Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
    Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms)

That pretty much sums it up. Polks top speaker is the Lsi25 and it's under 3 grand. If polk decided to enter this market I'm sure it would be good. They produce excellent speakers in there price class. I really don't think they lead any price class but I would go to say they can compete with the top dogs in there. Absolutely.

    I understood.
The ranking is by price alone.
Sorry. I thought there was something technical in the discussion
