Whitney Houston just released a comeback CD yesterday. I havne't heard any music off it though. It is possible for someone who's been gone from the music scene for so long to make a come back in today's music scene?

I would think it would be very difficult to do given she didn't produce or sing music for such a long time. Can an 80's diva make a comeback?

Sure it's possible Al. Lots of other singers have done so, she should be able to as well so long as she still has a good voice and the right kind of music she can handle.

It is actually easier for an established, successful artist to make a comeback than for a new artist to break into the music scene. The trouble I have seen with most "comeback" attempts is that the artist will try too hard to pander to current popular music tastes which may be drastically different from the style which made them famous. They then end up making a fool of themselves rather than reconnecting with their old fan base and going on to winning new fans.

Another thing is that Whitney has produced some classic music that has received consistent radio airplay during her long hiatus, so she never really completely disappeared.

If Whitney's voice is in good form and she produces a quality product, she should have no problems. I can't imagine that the tens of millions of people who supported her career would abandon her if she is bringing back more of what they liked/loved in the first place.

If she does not try to compete with the curent crop of mimimal-to-no talent "pop princesses" (you know who they are) who seem to be more interested in taking their clothes off on stage and lip-synching rather than singing, she'll be ok.

That guy at AA in your sig listens to the no talent vocal synthed, pre-recorded wailing simpson types, Whitney would not compete with them, she would destroy them and actually have some muscians who would want to play for her.

I doubt her voice held up to all the drugs she's been doing over the past two decades, but I hope so, she really had one of the all-time voices.

One of the cuts from the new album was prereleased a month ago (cant remember the name). It got much airplay on R&B stations in this area. I also heard it on the verizon cable R&B station a few times.

I must say, it sounded ok. Voice sounds like its on way back.

Sure she can. Just run every single vocal track through Auto-Tune and she'll have five of the Top Ten singles. Lil' Wayne will have three and T.I. will have the other two. Or some variation thereof.

Auto-tune can die in a fire. Slowly.

Whitney Houston loses voice, cracks through Central Park 'GMA' concert - then blames Oprah

By Kerry Wills and Carrie Melago
    DAILY NEWS WRITERS

It was one moment in time that she just wasn't ready for.

Whitney Houston struggled with her voice during her much-hyped comeback performance on "Good Morning America" Tuesday.

The Grammy-winning diva apologized to the 5,000-person crowd for overusing her famous pipes before taking the stage in Central Park to promote her new album "I Look to You."

"I'm so sorry. I did 'Oprah.' I've been talking for so long. ... I talked so much, my voice," she said, trailing off.

"I shouldn't be talking. I should be singing," she said before breaking into her final, crowd-pleasing number, "I'm Every Woman."

Fans, who came from as far away as Australia and arrived in line as early as 10 p.m. Monday, boisterously sang along with her.

While "Good Morning America" only planned to have Houston sing three songs, some fans were hoping to hear more from the songstress.

"I expected it to be longer. She couldn't sing. She was really damaged," said Joao Andrade, 28, of North Bergen, N.J. "I'm a little disappointed. I think she was brave to come out with no voice."

The crowd, though, was firmly behind Houston, whose alleged drug addiction and troubled marriage to Bobby Brown have overshadowed her musical career for nearly a decade.

They wore homemade T-shirts and carried glittery signs that proclaimed "Whitney We Love U." And when Houston emerged on stage, her hair in loose curls and wearing a sharp taupe dress, fans erupted and rushed toward her.

"We missed you Whitney!" one screamed. Her voice husky and her songs missing the high notes she was once known for, Houston belted out three cuts from her new album "I Look To You," and appeared to choke up during its emotional title ballad.

The crowd was moved along with her, wildly applauding during poignant lines like, "After all my strength is gone, in you I can be strong." Houston's apology before closing out the set made devoted fans love her even more.

"It brought tears to my eyes," said Raleigh Hatcher, 38, of Jersey City. "She's been through so much in her life. She's been working very hard, and it's a lot to do. And she's been doing it well."

Concert-goers applauded Houston for trying to recover from her fall from grace - from selling 170 million albums and recording iconic hits like "I Will Always Love You," to landing on the cover of "National Enquirer" surrounded by drug paraphernalia.

"Everyone falls down and everyone stumbles. It's how we pick it up and keep going," said Ky Davis, 32, of Plainfield, N.J., who showed up with pink roses.

More than a dozen people arrived Monday night to snag a spot in line for the concert. Calling the experience "Camp Whitney," they put out blankets and waited for the gates to open at 11 a.m. "I'd rather be too early than too late," said Jonny Beauchamp, 20, of Manhattan.

"I think this is great. She's been away for a really long time. She's my idol."

I guess Whitney was on Good Morning America this morning.. I missed her performance. but I guess her voice gave out half way through the song.. and she left the stage without finishing her song. that's sad.. but maybe she needs more vocal practice to bring her voice back as best that it can sound.

I'm routing for her to make a comeback.

I've never been a "fan", but I was a teenager of the '80s, and she was by far the most talented female vocalist of the era. Her style was never quite my thing, but I would love to see her re-gain her stature and then hopefully shift to a more mature style of music. That voice, if it is still there, singing a more soulful/jazzy genre, would be just fantastic. Hopefully whatever damage she did to herself during all the self-destruction she was engaged in for so long can be reversed. Losing Bobby Brown was the smartest thing she's ever done.

    Just watch....

Predictions are that Whitney will move over 200,000 units the first week. That's not bad, considering she's been away for quite a while. Can she make a full comeback? She can't depend on radio airplay anymore since the market is now too fragmented, unlike when she first released her debut album. It will take a strong album, good promotion, and a consistent tour. That will mean she can't pull any of her "diva" crap....such as canceling her concert 15 minutes before it starts here in the Bay Area several years back.

Both Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey are amazing vocalists....but only when backed by the right material and strong producers who can rein these "divas" in. When these 2 ladies are "on", they're excellent....such as Whitney's debut album and Mariah's "MTV Unplugged" album.
