Inglourious ****

I went to see Tarantino's latest film opening day with my younger cousin and basically had the time of my life (not with my cousin, but with the flick). Whether or not you consider this to be his best film, I'd think you would be hard pressed to find one better directed. The opening sequence alone should win multiple oscars for art direction and acting.

The scenes with the "Inglourious ****" were beyond entertaining and Brad Pitt's character provides one of the funniest, most original performances I have seen in a long time. That being said... do not be misled by the trailers. About a third of the movie actually deals with their exploits - however thrilling and gory they may be. The real star of this movie is the dialogue, set design and overall direction (much of which does not involve the "Dirty Dozen-esque" Inglourious ****).

On a final note, the movie's finale has to be seen to be believed. Completely over the top and completely revisionist, but completely satisfying. The crowd I was with cheered wildly during the whole sequence and I couldn't help but grin ear to ear. But then again, I come from a Jewish family.

A+

Tarantino has been an "acquired taste" for me, but now I love his movies. Can't wait to see this one.

Very nice review Jason. A little short though ;)

Saw it Saturday night. Fan-freakin'-tastic movie! That opening scene is amazing, and the guy playing the "Jew Hunter" deserves an Oscar nomination. For me, this was definitely Tarantino's best directed and paced movie, and Brad Pitt was hilarious.

Definitely a great end to a summer with some damn entertaining movies. And definitely a movie I'll be purchasing on its release date.

I believe "Jew Hunter" already picked up Best Actor at Cannes and is considered an early front runner for Best Supporting Actor. Kuntasensei - you're absolutely spot on about the opening scene. I haven't been on the edge of my seat like that in a long time. It was just one of those performances that goes down as iconic.

    Now I'm craving some milk.....

Yes, indeed, "Jason"...that was a nice, short "review"...;)

Coming from a Jewish background/heritage as well, I was curious to see this one -- anything having to do with some folks kickin' Hitler's **** always gets me into a theater seat.

When there were rumors that Q.T. was doing a ****-stomping flick, the community went nuts because only he could deliver a "Hitler Meets Planet Terror" kind of thing in his shocking way -- since seeing the trailers, I've been looking forward to it. However, because of the film's length, we decided to rent it when it comes out instead of sitting in a theater for nearly three hours listening to moronic, simple-minded teenagers taking up rows at a time gabbing on their cells and texting each other just feet apart.

I'd rather put an uzi in my mouth.

I don't think he's Jewish (though it never really specifies). I believe he just felt the best course of action in attacking **** through guerrilla warfare was to assemble a group of individuals who had the hardest axe to grind - or in the case of Bear Jew, the hardest aluminum bat to swing.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I guess I've never understood why people pop into review threads to **** on a movie they've never even seen. I've probably been guilty of it a few times myself, so I'm not really throwing any punches. Just curious...

Ron and I merely stated that we were not QT fans and because of that were of not all that fired up over this particular movie. Ron "might" view the movie and I likely will not. I would hardly call that "shitting on a movie".

Like I said... I've probably been guilty of the same thing myself more than a few times. I just fail to see how it adds anything to the discussion. Maybe if a thread was started discussing the merits (or lack thereof) of Tarantino's body of work? I don't know.

For example, half of what get's recommended on this Forum I find no interest in (as I'm sure applies to everybody for the most part). It would just be a waste of my time to pop in to every thread about Tool, Radiohead, Krauss, Elton John, etc. to simply exclaim that I would be passing on their latest. Why not just pass on the thread altogether?

Anyway... I'm just rambling. I'm sure I've done the same.

What's the difference between posting positive comments vr negative on a topic?

And why, when people politely post negative type comments on a topic it's always taken as "shitting on" or "thread crapping"...etc. Just because I don't like something means I cannot post on it? Really?

I'm not much of a QT fan either. I find much of his work to be contrived and trying too hard. Very few of his movies do I hold up as some of my favorites. But I went to see this anyway because others I know wanted to see it. I was expecting the cheesy, campy schlock QT normally generates but this was above that and I was quite pleased I saw it. I'm probably going to get it on DVD when it comes out because it was just that fun.

But dumping on QT isn't quite as bad as claiming Jewish background and feigning outrage at a grotesque time in human history all the while trashing the original poster by mocking the review of the film and simultaneously acting with an air of arrogance and implying some level of expertise yet still getting your only theatrical reference to another work completely wrong.

I will probably never own or hear a pair of Wilson Watt Puppies, so why would I waste keystrokes in a thread concerning them? I'm not trying to be confrontational. I'm just wondering about the thought process.

I don't think the issue lies with the negative comments but more with the idea that this was a review of a single movie and several posters have commented on their views of QT which, while related due to his directorship of the flick, it's not what the thread was about. If you didn't see the movie yet and don't really want to or at least not go to a theater to see it, that's fine. But do all those theater haters and home theater snobs have to CONSTANTLY tell us how much you hate the theater? We get it, honestly, we do. Doesn't stop the rest of us from going. Same goes for controversial directors. Hate Tarantino all you want but the guy has been influential to a large degree in modern film making. Your opinion of his work might be low and you know what? For the most part, mine is too. But I still gave the movie a chance and I'm glad I did. I was chalking it up to not worth my time also and only went under the duress of default and being out voted 3 to 1. But by the end of the movie, I was quite pleased with how the evening turned out.

I obviously had enough interest in the topic to read the thread.
I guess that's my point. You haven't even seen the movie... so how can you have an opinion on it?............ Instead, it's about a movie that you will never see.

I am generally interested in reading what someone else has to say about something...as long as it in such a form that it keeps my interest and a topic I like. I read what you and others wrote and then commented. How is my stating I'm not interested in seeing the movie (not bashing...just stating a fact) different from someone stating "I am dying to see this" or "Can't wait to see this one" based on your and other's comments? They are commenting on something they have not seen by relying on their past experiences and what others have said...the same as I.
Again... if this was a thread about the merits of Tarantino's vision/body of work/art direction/stool sample, I could understand.

Every discussion about a QT movie revolves around his vision/body of work/art direction/stool sample, etc. It is the essence of who he is and how he makes movies...and it is a valid point....pro or con.

I'm not trashing, crapping, shitting in the thread...just participating.

I agree. There may seem to be a fine line between both comments. However, I believe there is one crucial difference. Those who are stating that they "cannot wait to see the movie" are obviously interested in the film. As such, one would expect them to be interested in any reviews, trailers, screen shots, press leaks, stool samples, etc.

I can't wait for Burton's Alice in Wonderland. Even though I haven't seen it yet (obviously), I love to discuss it with friends because I know I'm going to see it - and am rather excited about it at that.

If there ever was a thread started about Mama Mia! II: The Revenge and how excited certain people were about it, I'd probably just move on. Maybe I've been guilty of not doing so in the past... I don't know.
