Thanks like I said if anyone have any questions or needs help just ask.

Perfect F-ing timing! Thanks bro. I just ordered an Alpine MRP F240 and don't have an install kit yet. My battery is in my trunk (1994 XJ6). The amp manual recommends 8 AWG or thicker battery cable. Can you recommend a good kit that isn't too expensive? I'm going to use this amp to power a pair of db5251 components I just put in.

    Thanks again.

Sorry for the delay. If you want something that is cheap and will work well for your amp go to walmart and buy the kit. Do not buy the one with the cap as it is worthless but the wireing kit will work fine for what you need it for. Sorry for the delay.

Well ya I drilled them out so they would go into the wood flush. I think that is what you are asking. Yes they hold just make sure to use screws that have some "bite"

Can you give me a clue as to how to remove the dash panel/trim piece that surrounds a "din and a half" unit in a 93 Pont. Bonneville? I'm guessing that it snaps in/out because I can't see any fasteners but, I don't want to break it! I'm keeping the car for a few more years and have decided the old Delco has to go. I'd be interested to hear which brand of lower priced CD decks is/are better.(Pioneer,Sony,etc.)I'd like to use the internal amp for the fronts and pre/outs to an amp for the rears,no sub needed or wanted. Thanks !:)

Look at pio / alpine / kenwood, for source. I would'nt touch anything with a sony badge. You may also want to power your fronts and let the rears run off your hu. If your run the fronts off your hu (2x15-18watts rms) and your rears off an amp (2x50-60watts rms for a basic amp), the rears would drown out the fronts and your entire stage would be from the rear. Are front and rear speakers, stock?

I plan to replace all drivers front & rear and figured that a so-called high power hu would be sufficient to run the mids & highs produced by the fronts, while a very modest 2channel amp would handle the bass freqs from the rears. I'm not really looking to go "deluxe" on this install,I just want to improve on the stock Delco unit, which won't take much to do! I might see about an active 3way crossover to distribute the frequencies to the various drivers or just get some "bass blockers" from Crutchfield for the fronts. When I want to do some serious listening....I sit in my SDA's "sweet spot", not in a car seat, although I'll be happy to improve my mobile listening experience!:)

A so called high power hu, would make 2x15-18 real world watts at 3-5% THD. Imagine what your your sda's would sound like, if you fed them a signal with 5%THD. The 4x50watts is peak rating at prob 20% or higher THD. Hence hu's are a really crappy source of power for your speakers.

If you hear the sound in some of the top cars that compete in the sq lanes, I mean really listened with your eyes shut, the one common feature would be, that they all sound closer to a good 2ch home audio than to any car audio. Ofcourse this takes up tons of time, requires infinite patience while chasing small deltas and some serious amt of $$. So yeah, its technically possible to get close to your sda's.

If however you're just looking to hear some tunes driving back and forth from work and you want the sound to be better than your stock GM Delco setup, . then like u pointed out, you dont need much.

Two things would still stand though. Power your fronts and yeah dont buy sony. :)

If you're trying to avoid the "deluxe" install, you dont need an external active 3 way x-over. Find a head unit which has all the processing you need. Also what arun said, definitely power your fronts with the amp.

Does any company produce a "woofer only" in a 6"x9" size? I don't really want to use a co/triaxial in the rear deck if I can avoid it, although...I guess I could custom fit some 8" or 9" round drivers if need be.:eek::) Thanks to all who've contributed to my "education" !!!:D

Honestly I would omit rears all together, but if you are set on them here you go.

Are you saying to only install 2 channels in the front of the car and to not have any rear drivers at all ??

Indeed, REAL SQ setups have no rears. Think of it this way when a artist records there music they record it in 2.1 or 2.0 not 4.1 or 4.0. All a 4 channel setup does is copy what the front is producing for the rears. I think you would be much happier and be bale to spend some more money on your fronts without any rears.

That's kinda why I was leaning towards woofers only in the rear as low/bass freqs. are "non-directional", and having the mids & highs handled by the fronts, and with their smaller dimensions, they'll fit right into the existing "pod" on the front door panels. I agree about the soundstage aspect that you're referring to but, in the environment of a car's interior, it's not that big an issue for me. I'll save my critical listening for my house rig w/SDAs:)

A bit off topic, but partly triggered by nigobligh's post. Why are audio geeks 99.999999...% male? Do guys hear differently? there must be a reason for this skew.
