I hope that you are right and I am wrong, but if the issue is that audible,I do not think the "stuffing" is the culprit. Let us know what you find. Good luck.

I am no expert so I definitely could be wrong - it's just the first quantifiably different thing I could find between the two speakers.

The glue is drying on the caps right now so I should have more comments around lunchtime.

Well I have guests over so my preliminary tests were performed with Spongebob Squarepants as the source material...

I think they are working fine now, though. Not sure if it was the recap or the moving of the polyfill because I did both at once without testing in between.

I will give it a better test later tonight and report back!

I'm glad you are getting happier with these. When I find time I plan to do the crossover on my pair as well, so I've been following your results as you post them. My pair do not have any issues with SDA effect fortunately.

    Paul,
That's funny...me to! I am not happy their are problems, but I am getting one heck of an education reading these trial and error items. I am new to the 1.2TL world...That's what this site is all about right

The seller sent me the literature today in the mail, including:

16 page SDA SRS 1.2 manual
1 page SDA SRS 1.2tl addendum (this explains why the seller said 1.2 when they were 1.2tl)
Original August 31st 1989 receipt from Atlantic Stereo in NJ (eerie, huh - exactly 20 years ago TODAY) cost $5669.94 for two SDA-SRS 1.2tl, a Hafler XL-600, a Hafler "tris", an A/D/S CD-3 and a Yamaha T-720...

    :)

They misspelled on the Hafler. It was their "Iris" preamp. The XL-600 amp was the successor to the DH-500. I remember both the DH-500 and XL-600 amps....when I got off my Carver kick due to non-performance, I went to Hafler and never looked back. Sometimes I wish I had kept the pair of XL-600's I had back when, they were fun amps.

I'm glad you are making progress with the 1.2tl's. I'm loooking forward to more of your listening impressions.

Thanks, Paul. My spikes should arrive any day this week so that should help the bass. And then once my Prometheus TVC arrives from Malaysia I am dragging the Nelson Pass Stasis amp upstairs to really let 'er rip!

XO...just so you know, I have the same problem but my left channel SDA array emits no sound at all. I pulled and tested all of the drivers and found all of them checked out fine. I then did a complete check on the crossover and found that nothing was coming out of the crossover to the SDA array....so....if you are now getting the SDA sound from your left array after your crossover upgrade, then I think perhaps your problem was in the crossover itself and you "repaired" it! I am following this thread and look forward to your updates since I have been planning for 8 or 9 months to get Ben to do my crossovers....just haven't been able to since unexpected events have prevented it.

I hope you get it worked out - to clarify, I was getting sound out of the left channel SDA array, just not as much as the right channel. If I had to guess I would say there was about a +3dB difference. I no longer notice the difference so I think whatever I may have done to the crossover fixed it. All said and done, I did replace every single part in the crossovers with the exception of the inductors. I tested each resistor in the left channel and they were all in spec, so I didn't bother testing the right channel ones. I saved all my parts in a bag - I will go back and test all the resistors to see if one was the issue. I do not have a capacitance tester...

Anyhow I hope it works out for you - I think since none of your speakers are damaged you should be able to resolve the issue.
    Rob

Spikes arrived today from MyeSound - put on some Billy Joel and rocked out while I made guacamole in the kitchen.

I do believe acoustically coupling these monsters to the wooden floor below the carpeting was a good (albeit a bit expensive) choice!

At this point I think they are as good as I can get them - now I just sit back and wait for these new xover parts to settle in.

I picked up a pair of Monitor 11's this last weekend on craigslist and they are getting a workout downstairs but I don't think I will attempt to change their xovers. They are point to point wiring with no electrolytic capacitors so it would be a royal PITA if I wanted to upgrade.

Eh, you get what you pay for when buying Mye Sound products. That said, I thought they were a bargain and a half.
    with no electrolytic capacitors

It's been awhile since I looked inside the 11's. Are you sure about that?

If I had more disposable cash I am sure I would agree with you - they are very well made. Sharp and heavy and fit beautifully. 100% quality product just a bit more than I'm used to but I felt these speakers were worth a little extra jewelry :)

I did notice a bunch of poly caps and ceramic resistors on what resembled a circuit board but there were not as organized and professional looking traces like I am used to seeing. Several parts were soldered directly together at the leads and the caps and solder work looked stock - the caps had polk stickers on them with datestamps. The yellow made in mexico jobs. The whole xover rested upon two large inductors. I will try to snap a pic at my earliest convenience.

Ok, the two yellow caps are mylar, but the two 45uF caps are electrolytic.

Darn. I may have to run two caps in parallel then because I don't think one huge 45uF will fit. I will have to find out.

    That was per crossover.

    Caps:
    (1) 0.5uF
    (1) 4.9uF
    (2) 45uF

    Resistors:
    (2) 4.5 ohm, 5 watt

We are talking about Monitor 11's, not RTA 11's, right?

Yes, Monitor 11's I believe. They don't say monitor 11, though. But they look just like Monitor 10's only taller and with a 12" passive radiator (I think my Monitor 10 had a 10"?)

Darn I will have to pull out the xovers again then and have another look. They are from the 80's, 1988 or 1989 I think if I recall the date on the stickers. No modular molex connectors like the SDA though so recapping is not going to be fun. I'll see if I can get that pic tonight.

So you're the guy that got the last ones from them! Now I have to wait a month or so for him to do another run. I did break down and order some from a different source but I may still pick some up from Mye when they get made. Enjoy your speakers!

Ok, we're talking about the same speakers. They were made in 1982 and were a very short production.
