Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Sorry guys 'n' gals! I was going to contribute something, but I was under the impression that this was a thread on the subject of a possible cure for HIV/AIDS, and it turns out it's actually a thread about slowpolky. Since I have nothing to say on that topic, this is just another useless post so that I can sell something in the FM.
    Alea jacta est!

I read about this procedure for eradicating HIV/AIDS some months back, and it looks totally valid. I think the problem is that a full stem-cell replacement is
    • A) Really painful
    • B) A hit-or-miss proposition whether the donor cells will take.
    • C) These super-donors are still really rare, but....

with some funding and research they should be able to figure how to vat and grow the super stem cells in a lab culture so they don't have to find a donor each time they want to do this transfusion.
Gene research and medical knowledge is approaching another awesome plateau. This stuff really is miraculous.

it would be great to have cures for these nasty diseases.

Efficacy of medical treatments usually are tested using blind studies (double blind etc.)
    after years of research.

Then the years of long term follow up research for complication, side effects ...

and remember passing all the regulations that are required.
