Volume levels (low voice but effects really loud)

Hello.

I justed hooked up my equipment for the first time over the weekend. This is the problem I seem to be having..

Center channel main speach volume is low, but then a explosion goes off and it is really loud. So at night, I'm turning it down so I dont wake the kids up but then I can't hear the dialog.

I haven't played with the speaker setting or the auto room setup which my receiver comes with.

Any suggestions?

    It has an incredibly high dynamic range; sounds about right!

    You can usually adjust the dynamic range between Hi/Med/Low for that reason. Low might be titled "night mode" or something of that nature...

    Run the calibration so that the speaker levels are adjusted correctly.
    Speakers: Polk LSi15

    suggestions, yes... play with the speaker settings and the auto room set up. since you havne't done that.. no wonder you can't hear the dialog and the effects channels are to loud.

    run the auto room set up.. and play around with the settings.. i know it'll make a difference.

    it's not uncommon after you run the auto set up.. to have to go into the receiver menu and raise the volume on your center channel to hear dialog better.

    I've highlighted your problem for you.

    Run the auto setup and then report back. It should take care of your issues.

    As Danger Boy said, it's not uncommon to have to go into the menu and adjust the center channel level to your personal tastes afterward. I've found that it's usually necessary to manually adjust the sub a bit as well, to tailor it to your own tastes.

    The guys gave good advice so do those things first, that failing you should run outside in a rain storm naked except for a small loin cloth and speak in audio tongues to the sound gods, alot of twisting and jumping and grunting noises usually works for me.
