I agree, that would cost 4 times as much here.

Ummm ... it's more like the area. One can find plenty of cheap houses now around Detroit and many parts of north/midwest, old steel town in PA, etc.

Plenty of expensive houses in southern places like Atlanta, Asheville, etc.

Check out this 1900SF in West Virginia for $25K

You have NO idea:p I spent 3 years trying to find a house, even a single wide mobile home in SE MA/ RI, and just gave up!
The house I bought down here for $109K, would go for at least $600K in a relative town like Canton, Burlington, or someplace in metrowest, like Newton, Needham:rolleyes:

Ofcourse, we DO have a state unemployment rate of 10.2%:(
That's part of the trade off.

not trying to be a stick in the mud, and i'm surprised no one else has said it yet, but please do be careful and not spend your load (sounds dirty) on new gear just yet. it's your first house and you may want to spend money on possible upgrades, maybe some new furniture and things of the like. houses break down. air conditioners die. i am unaware of your financial standing, but try to keep a nest-egg for such emergencies!

sweet place for sure and i hope you get this place.

Im definitely going to hold off on the audio stuff for a bit -- just exciting to have that opprotunity I guess ;)

I definitely want to get a couch, coffee table - new entry doors + new locks + alarm

Ill wait probally a month or two and see how my bills look and look at the big scheme and go from there.

Im pretty good about maintaining money and spreading things out.

    Ill pay ya! :)

Oh yeah if you are going with a projector I'd highly recommend not going with a cheap pull down screen.

The tensioned ones are much better.

Also, if I were you I'd invest on having all the HT gear on a subpanel.

Why don't you run for him some 6/3 to a small subpanel with 3-4 dedicated 20A circuits? That way if he wants to put a projector on the ceiling it's no big deal...

A good plan there. Tuck it away in a near closet and branch out from there.

Congratulations! Seeing that house, and what prices are like over there, makes me miss the East Coast, especially with all the Polkies over there, and equestrian events for Three Day Eventing.

It looks like a nice place, just waiting for you to move in and have some fun! And if Russ is helping with the power stuff, you are really all set!

I just mounted my projector in my new house and I am going to paint the wall with Screen Goo: http://www.theaterthings.com/?gclid=CI-R07H2rZsCFUdM5Qod8hmkBw

I also put all my gear in a closet and I bought this so that I control everything from my couch: http://www.smarthome.com/59500/Hidden-IR-Repeater-System-Home-Theater-Infrared-Distribution-System/p.aspx

Goo systems aren't bad, but a good screen could perhaps add more punch to the image. Just a thought. I would suggest you take a look at Focupix or Elite screens.
