Are you going to put a tag on this thread?

No need to single out Fox here...just about all News networks are having a Media frenzy with the M.J. death! Must be a slow news week!

ummm no I don't think so. Floyd predates The J5, as do the Doors. Even the J5 were influenced by the Beatles.

I have to go with John on this one...perhaps someone is 'showing' their age, klove. Those of us a bit older the Mikey are quite aware of the fact that his influence was fairly insignificant compared to the greats that preceded him and the J-5. In fact most of us 'older' boys couldn't even listen to 30 seconds of the J-5 without cringing in their heyday!

I did not say that the Jackson 5 pre-dated, or influence anyone. What i was saying is simply they were the first group that allowed me to appreciate music, which in turn started a long and never ending journey which led me to the bands that i spoke of.

I'm very familiar with most of the artists listed above...and the Jackson 5 led me to NONE of them.

In my day the J5 had more in common with the 1910 Fruitgum Company, The Ohio Express, The Archies, The Lemon Pipers, The Partridge Family, The Archies, The Monkees, etc... BUBBLEGUM music at best...and not to be taken seriously. 40 years later...my opinion hasn't changed.

Hummm, Jethro Tull - well that Aqualung guy on the park bench does look a little bit like MJ. Probably a lot of the same hobbies anyway.

True, but they did release albums *after* the J5 hit the scene. And come to think of it, the J5 did start in 1968 ....

After all, who can't listen to PF "The Great Gig in the Sky" and not hear the strong influences of the J5's 1970 hit "ABC"

Or how about Wish You Were Here's track "Welcome to the Machine" -- it isn't hard to hear the strong echoes of a pair of early 70's J5 songs "Mama's Pearl" and "Little Bitty Pretty One" (the later a Thurston Harris original, though PF's WTTM is clearly more influenced by the J5 verson)
