Mega, I'm sure you mean well, but if you did a bit more research, you'd realize than Ben is already giving his cables away at a ridiculously "discounted price". I personally don't think it's even remotely fair to ask for anything more from him on that score.

As for the idea of the comparison, I personally (as a non-participant, mind you), don't think there is anything inherently wrong with everyone using cables they are familiar with, as long as they attempt a true, blind, a/b test (they'll need a wifey, or somebody to help, so all the bachelors should get married before they receive the player, IMO).

    Well
I appreciate your words. I sell my cables at near cost to Polkies. Polk forum has taught me much. I do not mind giving back to the forum.
    Again thanks.
The lessons learned here are far more valuable than any books, or reviews. I will try to make it happen.

No. If I'm married by the time this CDP gets to me, then something in my life has went horribly wrong, and I should be slapped repeatedly for an hour straight.:p I'm only 22 for God's sake...I'm not going to get married for another 20 years or so...lol

I'll just have to get by with what my ears tell me, and bypass the true A/B test.

Definitely. When I'm comparing components, I only want to introduce one variable at a time.
That said, I'm absolutely willing to kick in a few more ducks for some of Ben's work. They might make a great runner-up prize. (thoughts?)

I will try to do a blind test, but I doubt I can coax my wife into that detail....LOL
She loves music, but she'd rather chew on aluminum foil than stand around swapping wires. I'm slowly reaching a level with her, where it's: "I don't care. I don't want to hear about it,....just go buy it"

And it only took 16 years.:D

Maybe I can get Curt up here to help out. I have an extra office divider we can use as a blind.

    I'll talk to Dane.

Ben, I don't want Dane under stress for the cable demo. We started out with Crap Shoot for ERC-1 to reality. We have some surplus funds so I asked some other fellow polkies what we should demo next. We don't have to get the demo for the cable and the ERC-1 together. But it'd be nice if we can do it the same time.

Like I said, I am not suggesting you should loan us a set and sell us a set at Polkie Discounted Price. I just asked to see you might try pulling something for us. :)

At this minute, we are all talking and it's still crap shoot what to do with the surplus funds. I think it's still undecided since some boys hasn't chimed in yet what to do with the surplus.

But if the group decided to buy your IC to demo with the group funds, I'll buy a set from you so you don't need to loan us a set.

You just sell us a set at polkie discount (provided we have enough funds to buy one) to the group and a set to me. I'll loan my pair in the demo for the group but my pair will not be in the draw. At the end of Demo, a pair needs to come back to me and a pair bought with group funds can be in a raffle or a draw or anything up to the boys.

Kex, I think you misunderstood since I didn't say clear enough. I don't know how much Ben's been selling his cable but I know he is selling them near the cost for Polkies. All I said is to sell us a set at that Polkie Discounted Price. If I put "Polkie" in my previous post, I think you wouldn't have confused.

    Ben

We'll make it happen Ben! No Stress!

When we have enough surplus coming to Dane's way and the group decided to demo the I/C, we'll buy a set from you and I'll buy a set from you to throw in the Demo. :)

It may change if we are short of funding or someone has a better usage for the surplus.

Now is all about DISCUSSION! :)

Spoke to Ben a few minutes ago...
He is offering this Demo a "2-for-1" deal on ICs. Thanks Ben!! That means for $60, we'll have two pairs for player->pre, and pre->amp.
He usually charges Polkies $10/ft, so we have to decide... do we want (2) 3ft pairs, or (1) 2ft pair and (1) 4ft pair?
These will then be karma'd off in similar fashion to the player.

That is a good idea to include Ben's ICs as part of the demo. I would like to A/B them to Maplshade ICs, along with the CD player. Let us know what our additional cost is, and I will send it.

Thanks for all your effort in this project.

Two things: 1. Need to accumulate another $35 or so to pay Ben...
    2. Stay tuned, as drawing for player happens within 45 minutes!

Thanks Guys. You don't know how much this means. I have been selling off gear to get bills paid, and this leaves a lump in my throat!

BTW guys should I make the cables both at 3 feet, or 2 and 4 feet?
    Thanks

Lighten up. Get a grip. Sh!!!!t. I'll pay the $35 myself if necessary. Lighten up. Damn.

I have to admit I was “under the influence” when I posted the suggestion we use the excess funds to buy some ICs, but I didn’t specify any specific vendor.

I think what I'm going to do is offer (1) drawing slip for every $10 over $20 contributed. This will hopefully encourage the rest of our participants to chip in a few extra dollars to pay Ben for his gratuity. And those who have already given extra will not get penalized.

Those of you who gave $25... I will be happy to give you your $5 back to keep things fair, or you can contribute $5 (or more) for entries into the raffle.

Only members who are participating in this demo are eligible for Ben's cables.

There will then be (2) drawings... one for each pair.

What's the cut off date for this? I just bought a car so i'm broke again, but would like to get in on this to make sure ben is properly reimbursed, as well as have a shot or two at the cables. :)
