Cool and we are finally going forward! Of coz, you should be in the raffle and it's solely one self's decision to be part of it or not. Like Kex and Curt said, people who has no interest in owning the ERC-1 shouldn't be in the demo to allow others a better chance.

I am just playing this for fun no matter who wins. All I need is a few days time to demo the player to see the Reference name matches the player or not.

I just want to hear an Emotiva cdp and weigh it against others I have heard. Like Mega said, to see if it lives up to the "reference" moniker.

    But, what do I know?

What other reference players are you guys comparing the ERC 1 to?
I'm going to try to arrange several, from as many price ranges as possible.
Looks like I'll be calling in some favors for loaners....lol

Also, Dane, do you need some extra $$ to cover shipping from Emotiva? Just say the word.

Good Question! But is there any such thing as Reference Player? I will do only fair things for the comparison. I am not going to compare Big Brands' so called Reference with the ERC-1. It'll be normal apple to apple comparison.

I will compare it to the Sony's latest SACD/CD player, the 5400ES. More importantly, I will compare the sound of its analog out to the sound of its digital out through the Benchmark Dac1, and to my Brystron DAC if I have it by then. The closer the analog sound is to the digital through the DAC(s) then the better the player.

Since that is the equipment I will be referring to for comparison, I guess that makes it reference equipment.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

Y'all do realise that each one of us will have a different reference to compare this to.

Thus the fun begins, Russ! It'll be interesting what people say after all this.

But this is $400 player and there is a lot of $400 players out there - so, let's be FAIR to it. If it excels other $400-$500 players, it gets my vote! If it does not, then, it'll go back to my junk list along with others.

dane of course you should be included in the drawing.
I would even like to toss the idea out to other participants to give you one extra entry for your efforts on putting this together.
    Megasat,
I'm pretty sure 30% off is a deeper discount than would be offered to the general public on open box items. But I could be wrong...

As far as accumulated totals, we're at $230 if all participants come through as expressed. So we ideally need another 3 people or so... I'm willing to toss in another $20 myself, as long my name can be in the raffle too. ;)

Edit: Can those of you who've sent or are sending payment, PLEASE PM me your full address if I don't already have it? Even if your address is listed in your PayPal payment, I may not be able to match that up to your CP screenname. Thanks.

I support that idea. After all, Dane's got a hard time from me and may be some other. He took the troubles and I think he really deserves it. :)

Even though I disagree with some of rules, Dane has my full support for making this from crap shoot to reality.

"Reference" is a way over used word in the audio world. Many companies have a "reference" line of products. It means absolutely nothing. For example, I have an old set of Infinity Reference 2000.5 and R3 bookshelfs. I have Infinity Reference 6002i car speakers. None of these speakers are top of the line by any means. My point is, I think audio companies use that term loosely. I am though curious to see where members of this forum thinks this player stacks up. We will see if it performs well at its price point or above. (or below)

No extra entries here, folks. Just as many as are earned per my investment.

I would update everyone with what payments I've received in the mail today, but I lost my mail key. :X So when my wife gets home tonight, I should have some info.

Is it too late to jump in? I'd like to send money for an entry this weekend when i get back home if that's ok.

If not, no big deal. I was planning on trying one regardless. :D

I'm not sure that comparing it against a DV50A would be all that eye-opening. "Yup, it's better! Surprise!" ;)

That's how they get everyone. With their blue LED's and overwhelming blueness on everything...lol

When it comes around to my turn to demo it, my girlfriends probably going to want me to get one for those very reasons...lol

Personally, I'll take an ugly, misshapen slab of metal if it sounds good.:)

If i end up getting one, i will be seriously looking into converting that sucker to red lights.

I don't mind the blue, but after seeing how overwhelming my APC power conditioner is, i'm not sure if i want to add to that. Red would be much better.

    But yes.... i'm with you.

I hope the Blue Lights are not too bright in a dimly lit room.

Personally, I think it's too bright around the CD slot. I don't like the slot loading but again it's a personal thing.

Well, what do I need to worry about? I won't likely buy one and I am not interested in the raffle for it too.

    Good Luck Guys!

    Are they? Well that's a plus...lol

All of these people that have Emo everything in their system probably don't even need lights in their rooms anymore. With all of the massively overbearing, searing blue LED's, you can probably see everything plain as day.:p

It's nice to know. :) It would be even better if the lights can be turned off (full brightness, dim, turn off) except for the a few buttons such as power. But it's just my wishful thinking.
