Just an update, dad seems to be doing well all things considered. Really pissed that he's still laying flat on his back but we are hoping the nurses get him up and moving around tomorrow like they said they were going to do today. He was taken off of the heart machine today so that was a relief but they have him on a bunch of medications and he says he's tired of taking pills. He keeps swearing the doctors are selling his blood on the black market due to them taking so much but other than that he's getting his since of humor back and he's ready to go home. Still don't think he's aware of the long road ahead of him but he'll find out soon enough.

Sounds like a model patient...LOL. Good to see he is doing well. If he has that much spunk in him he should be well on his way to recovery. Glad to see they got the balloon pump off of him. (I am assuming it was a balloon pump)

So I guess what I'm asking of my Polk family is to just keep the Grim family in your prayers that he has a speedy recovery and to give of the patience to deal with his stubbornness. I'll be keeping you guys informed the best I can.
Well, keeping you, your dad an entire family in my prayers! This is somewhat an eye opener for me. I am only 5 years younger than your father with 2 great sons and grand sons. I am a heavy smoker, try quit at least once or twice a year without success. Tell your father if he can't do for him self, he should do for his children and family. Tell him you still need him in your life. The best to you, your dad and family. He is too young to go through this!

Okay, here is another update. As of roughly 4 p.m. today dad has been moved out of ICU and is now in a room of his own. When I finally got to the hospital today dad has been removed from all machines other than oxygen which he should come off of tomorrow and he was sitting in a chair and watching tv. He has been eating all day with no problems and said even though its decaff coffee, he's lovin life. His blood pressure has been regulated, it's been really low fotr the last couple of days and said he is now ready to go home and sleep in his own damn bed. All in all things are going really well and we are hoping he will get to go home soon. Thanks to all for your continuing prayers and I personally want to thank each and every one of you guys/gals, couldn't ask for a better groups of friends/family.

Very good news!! 5 years ago last Christmas (day after) my dad had a cardiac arrest (his heart stopped beating) right in front of me in his kitchen. Long story short he was taken to our local hospital and then moved about 300 miles away to a hospital in Vancouver where he had a triple bypass, heart valve replacement and a pacemaker/defibrilator installed. After about a year of recovery he was back to his old cantancerous self. He feels better than he has in years and at 80 figures he'll live to 100.
He also says it's the best thing that happened to him because it awakened him to what's really important in life. Family friends and simple pleasure. Last year he realized a lifelong dream and purchased a Jaguar XJS V-12 convertible. All this is just to say that I had totally prepared myself for his passing but he obviously had other ideas and is living and is really enjoying life now. My prayers are still with you and your father and your family for his full recovery. I'm hoping your father will have a similar story.

I hope your dad is doing better. Also said a prayer. Now I'll try to ease your familys mind a little. At 53 I also had a heart attack. Had angio plasty twice in a year then surgery. Now 16 years later with a very healthy diet and a lot of exercise I can do anything I could befor the problems. Your dad should be with us a long time with a little help and love from the family.

Well, here is a new updtae as of 6-1-09. Dad isn't as close to being healed or on a road to recovery as we had hoped. After having an EKG yesterday the doctors noticed he has a blood clot in his lung as well as having full blown pneumonia. He is been treated for both as I type this but the doctors said he's doing far better than they thought he would be doing at this stage of the recovery process. Said he will have to wear what they call a life vest (for those that don't know, if his heart starts acting up again it will beep to let him know somethings not right and to dial 911 ASAp and if for some reason his heart stops, it automatically shocks the heart to get it going again) for a couple of months until his heart has time to strengthen. After hearing all this from the doctor he's still high spirited and wants to go home but we still are not out of the woods yet. Blood pressure and spiking fevers have been stabilized but you can see he's still not ready to come home which is why the doctors said he may not be able to be released until the end of the week as long as they can get the clot dissolved as well as take care of the pneumonia. Just keep the prayers coming and I'm sure he'll be doing better in no time. Told him the sooner he gets home the sooner I'll start looking for some hot young nurse to come and take care of his medical needs and his comment was, "what, you trying to put me back in the hospital", lol.

Just an update. After talking with my wife which stayed with my pops all day so that way she could hear what the nurses had to say the blood clot is not in his lung, the clot is in his heart. Another thing the doctors seemed really concerned about is apparently the lower chanber of his heart has a "flutter", hence the reason for the life vest. Just keep the prayers coming my Polk Family.

Hopefully everything will be OK...but if things continue to be problematic. Are you at a Major University Teaching Hospital, because you may want to consider an upgrade. I've been through small town hospitals with my mother. And it wasn't until we got here to the U. of Penn Hospital that we received first rate medical care, advice and treatment.

I sincerely hope that won't be necessary. You have our best wishes and thoughts.

Well, this is well over due so I figured I'd better update you guys. First and foremost, THANK-YOU guys for all your prayers and best wishes. Dad is doing just fine. He went last Tuesday for a check up and the doctors said he looks great, all his stats checked out excellent and he's been cleared to return to work this Thursday on a part-time, light duty ONLY!!! Doctors are still concerned about the clot in his heart but he's having an EKG today to check on the status of that as well. Other than that, pops is doing fine, like nothing ever happened although he said he knows he still has to take it easy for a while. Once again, I want to thank all of you guys for being so supportive and just being there for me and my family.
