Prayers needed...

Well, yesterday morning at 2 a.m. the house phone rang and it was one of those dreaded, you just know something is wrong rings. Well turns out it was my brother calling to inform me that he was on his way to my dads house and he believed dad was having a heart attack. Well, to our worst fears, dad (aka, Superman) was having a major heart attack. As I'm typing this he is in the ICU room and is doing well. Turns out he had 2 major arteries 100% blocked and they had to go in and stint them. They have him on a machine that pumps his heart for him to give his heart sometime to recover which he should be coming off of within the next 12 hours.
The biggest challenge out of this is just the recovery process and the new changes he is going to have to make in his life. My father has been smoking since he was 14 years old, he will be 58 in August and swore on his life that he gave up everything and the last thing he was giving up was smoking. Well yesterday while in the ICU room with him and my brother he told my brother when he went by the house to throw his remaining cigarettes way, said he never wanted to go through that type of pain again, AMEN!!! Of course he has to change his diet as well as his whole way of living. My dad is a single man that lives home by himself, he's an ASE certified mechanic of well over 35 years as well as a 24 hours tow truck driver. He's used to run, run, run all the time so the change is going to be dramatic for him.
So I guess what I'm asking of my Polk family is to just keep the Grim family in your prayers that he has a speedy recovery and to give of the patience to deal with his stubbornness. I'll be keeping you guys informed the best I can.

All my best for your dad. I just lost mine less than a year ago. But he lived a good long life as I'm only several years younger than your Dad!
He's just got to quit smoking at this point...Hope his Doc can convince him to do that and that he recovers fully.

Wishing you and your dad all the best. I went through the same thing with my dad three years ago Christmas Eve. I got the call and arrived at the hospital just as they were shocking his heart back to life. He had the same thing, blocked arteries. He is much like how you describe your father as he worked at A&P for 44 years and has two speeds, full tilt and stop.
On a positive note, he has recovered well and has learned from the experience.
I'm hopeful all will work out well for your dad .
