I owned 2 Oldmobiles and they went away, now I have an '05 Pontiac G6 and they're going away. Is this a bad omen or something?

Haha. I bought a new 2003 Olds Alero that I drive and my wife drives the 2007 G6 that we bought new. I'm right there with you! Oh, and my first car ever was a 1984 Olds Custom Cruiser wagon. Yes, I used this car to court my wife!

I just read that Saab and Hummer are going bye bye too. I wonder what that means for me and my 2009 Hummer as far as warranty, service and resale value?

As long as GM is still in existance, the warranty is probably going to be good. Hard to say about resale. Hummer has probably run it's course and the brand will just die IMO. Saab will probably survive and will be sold to a Euro company or go back to being independent.

What a shame! Hopefully they will keep the Australian version of Pontiac - Holden (from which G8/GTO was taken).

Do you think? Maybe they will be more sought after because they aren't made any more. Hummer is a niche car. How complicated can it be to work on it? It's just GM parts.

Warranty and service I believe is covered by the government. Resale depends more on what the price of gas is going to do. The heads of GM and Ford are calling for a $2/gallon gas tax. If that happans, anything that gets less than 50/mpg will be worthless.

I agree about the gas. The ONLY reason I love Hummer is because it is a weekend only pleasure vehicle. If I had to drive it as my only car forget it. I just like having the versatility of it at my disposal. I remember what it was like trying to drive on South Florida roads after a hurricane in my sedan.

Buying your Hummer was a great move, now you can pick me up on your way north after the next big one :).

If that's true about them wanting to institute a $2 fuel tax, I hope they fail.

Buick is WAY too popular amongst the 55+ year old crowd.

Next time you are driving around, pay attention and you will see. It's like hundreds of thousands of people who lived their lives driving Chevys, longing for Cadillacs, retired and had a budget to move up to a Buick. That was one thing GM got right.

Pontiac on the other hand ... they were toast when we got this:

It's a shame too, the concept actually looked ok.

    Either works for me :)

I'm not sure I understand Saab going away -- it has a reputation and following. Truly somewhat different than the rest of the GM stable.

Can't find the other link, but the previous GM CEO Rick Wagoner also endorsed it.
