What you say Steve makes a lot of sense to me. I am new to this forum and have been helped a great deal by its members. I like to think that I am respectful to others (newbies or long time members). I subscribe to "treat others as you yourself want to be treated". There does seem to be a lot of tension in here and it may be partly relate to tough economic times but more likely its just human nature. There are a lot of egos in here.

I think that people just need to remember that we are all here because we have a common interest. In my experience if you treat others with repect, generally you will get it in return.

A little patients by long standing members wouldn't hurt. And if more newbs realized that you learn more with your mouth shut than with it open, that would help a lot also.

On the most part I agree with you, but there are a few turds that needs to be flushed, or need to smarten up and not instigate.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

Kill off the "Clubhouse" thread and get to the root of the problem. That's where the political discussions are started anyway. And FYI, newbs aren't the ones starting them. Sorry.

Let's get back to audio. Let those sitting in the mausoleum of political resentment and creepy sentimentality go somewhere else. Say... a political forum.

    "It is what it is."

This saying seems to have become trendy. Not in my world. To me it represents the ultimate cop-out. "Just lay back and let it roll over you, you have no control over IT."
I don't care to lay back and do nothing. You can do that if you wish. To repeat, I have a certain investment in this place, and don't want to see it get more trashed up than it is, or disappear altogether.

This is nothing more than a case of a few children, not understanding that they can't talk about or say ANYTHING they want on this forum. In true child fashion, when confronted with this, they whine and want to know WHY they can't behave the way they want. That's where the long threads come from. Don't elevate it to any other status than that.

You can't talk about anything you want, cause there are rules here, set forth by the provider of this forum, Polk Audio.

Well said Steve & George. And to give you something else to think about....

A good portion of the old Polk management is gone. That means that DEI is really in charge. If things keep going the way that they are, they could EASILY decide to just shut down the entire forum!

A few jerks both old & new are NOT worth losing this forum over. So people need to leave their egos at the forum door. STFU with all the political BS talk & lets get back to havig fun.

There are plenty of other boards out there that you can get all the strife & immature excitement that you want to at those. If that's too boring for you, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

There will still be more than enough decent, mature people on here to talk audio, help out newbies, and to enjoy the best forum for audio on the web!

No Mark. Just know how things work once someone else buys out a company. Thing go along just fine for a year or 2 then all of a sudden the bought out leaders start retiring right, left & center. Layoffs start happening every few months to reshape the company into something supposedly more profitable.

Naturally these things are talked about, certainly not over an internet forum, but that doesn't mean it's not happening.

I think it is more likely that they (DEI) would just implement more heavier handed moderation rather than shut it down. Seems to me it would be better to delete a few offensive threads or nip trouble makers in the bud than shut down the forum.

For a corporate sponsored forum with a remarkably low level of official policement, I think this place runs rather well.

+1 DK. Y'all have let me hang around this long and that says something there. I post useless stuff all the time. BUT, I came here barely two years ago and in that short time, my passion for sound has been rekindled by reading the wealth of info that y'all as whole have to offer. I've made new friends and met some great people from this forum.
The thing I like about this place is it's free-form style of discussion on many topics, not just audio. Sure there are some that come in here only looking for fight, but they are dealt with in short form. There are some who come thinking they know everything audio related and then realise that not to be true and conceed to that fact and come around.
But, all in all, there is a "core" that holds this place together and I'm know get upset when somebody comes in and tries to shake things up. And it is this core of people that keep this forum the way it is.
Cathy, your concerns about the new top cheeses maybe taking down the forum are not unfounded. But if they can see that a place like this is a MAJOR support to their products and customer base, they may just leave us alone, but not without moderation of course.
A tip of the hat to you all,(even you GG:D). Keep the valuable info coming and I'll continue to post useless stuff.

Here is my take on this forum.. since i've been around here for as long as all the veterans have.

I wouldn't dwell on the fact that some veterans have left the forum. They may have been the backbone of this forum, but times change. If someone chooses to leave, that's their call. If someone chooses to stay and ride it out.. it's worth it. Not every forum is perfect. This one certainly is not.

Would we all come here if we could only chat about hi fi audio? I feel more people would leave. We've become a family of sorts in here.. I can BS with several people and know that this forum still brings us together. Had we not had this forum, think of the friendships that would never have developed, think of where you would be in your audio journey had it not been for this forum. There are still good people around that have so much knowledge to share it's unbelievable.

So don't let the fact that a few veterans left and no longer participate be the reason you decide to leave.. they are always welcome back.. but I for one am going to stick this out.. for the simple reason it's still one of the better forums in cyberspace.

Well, I think it goes something like this:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HD_Bs9egsS4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HD_Bs9egsS4&hl=en&fs=1&quot; type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

What's that have to do with the price of beans in China ? Well .... not a lot. Other than you never know where you'll get some information that opens up another avenue for exploration.
In this case, it's "The Lindy Hoppers", from "Hellzapoppin"; swing dance.
More precisely, UBER - swing dance. Which leads to swing music, which leads to ..... my great aunt has some old 78's in her attic .... going to
need a turntable ..... they used to play this stuff on tubes .... wonder if that sounds the same as sand ....... is this stuff available on SACD, or archive.org ? If so, what's this FLAC format; good as/better than mp3 ?

    Etc, etc.

I personally think more cat pictures would be helpful, but you bastages aren't as All-Wise and All - Knowing (pat.pending) as me yet ( .... but I'll get you there ..... someday  ), so in the meantime, I'll just suck your brains dry of every ounce of information that I can. :)
