...that we bring this place back to discussions about hi-fi, about showing the light to the young and new, that we bury this "chip on the shoulder" stuff that's been going on recently. Folk's, we're losing our credibility as a resource of all things audio---and video for that matter. I fear it's the reason some veterans have left, and it's a shame.
Let's rise above it, ignore it, nuture it, advise it; whatever we have to do to get back what we've somehow lost. I know many are on edge about the economy, I don't know if this is the primary source of our recent "anger issues" on this forum, but suspect it may be playing a role.
I ask you that we get back to audio. Expect the dumb questions. They are the same dumb questions you once asked. Cut the new folks a little slack and take on a mentoring role as senior audiophiles. Respect others opinions--I know this is a passionate hobby, with lots of strong beliefs about what works, and what doesn't; but try to deliver your message a little less violently if possible.
New folk's--no you're not off the hook either. Throw on your thickest skin and gleen what you can from the veterans. Don't take things personally, hang in there and I guarantee you'll be rewarded with not only knowledge, but some pretty nice relationships in return for your patience and perservearance.
Consider my thoughts. I'll go pour myself a hot mug of STFU, and hope for the best. I'd really like to stay.

WTF.... the only thread were we have such goings on is there in the clubhouse forum where it is OK to discuss non-audio related topics. for me the discussions are not that far off base or out of line, though a bit more civility would be nice, but other than that, so what? I have no axe to grind with anyone, though I do sense that GG is out there ready to toss his favorite "F" word my way:DThe Gear... I like you Steve. I like you a lot, but I call BS BS. All these whinny threads about AH's being called AH's is pure BS. If they came to start trouble they can, and not receive a welcome mat. They don't like it then leave. There are plenty of people that want to learn. WTF do you want this place to turn into? When I came here acting stupid I got slammed. I wanted to learn so I stayed. Same stuff now. Same as always. Having thread after thread of this PC crap is over the top. Who the hell do you want to stay? Punks like seafart, KH, JVC, or the ones that actually stick around and help people out. The next person to start another whinny thread should be banned. The next person coming in to just troll should be banned. EF this.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Ben and his silver ICs helped.
Hearingimpared lead me to a clamp that helped.
Ozzy lead me to a great cart and phono pre.
Conradies sold me some great cables.
There are many others I owe thanks to and I know I have a long journey ahead of me thanks to some of the salty dogs here I will be staying around and taking whatever abuse is thrown my way because I can take it.

Lately, the tail is waggin the dog around here. I don't know about you, but I don't like being wagged. By constantly engaging the trolls you are feeding them; they are therefore leading you around by your ego. Wake up.

Well, I have to admit, some of the responses are entertaining as hell and go to show that those who don't know, don't know. Some of them really don't know but they'll give advice anyway. That's comical to me. Most members can read through the BS.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? Steve very well stated and I'm 100% on board. I'll still d*ck slap someone if they deserve it, but I'll try to be less flippant and more tolerant. If I can't then I will ignore.

the best thing you can do is not engage in the dialog of threads that don't interest you. Others may find value/entertainment in them, but that does not make them wrong either. I see no need to chastise those that engage in non audio conversation. If you don't like it or approve, just move on to the next post. The Gear... I agree with this one 100%, but steve has a point in pointing out the rather high rise in flippant and abrasive posts. You can ignore most of it, but I think this girl has the best story for trying to ignore things: "Today, my boyfriend was really stressed about a guy he works with being a jerk. I told him 'if you ignore something long enough, it won't bother you anymore.' His response was 'I've ignored my herpes for a long time but it still bothers me.' We've been having sex for 3 months now. FML"

I totally agree to what Steve said. I think some folks become very sensitive to what newbies (knowingly or unknowingly) said and thus leading to arguments and disrespectful name calling battles.
In some aspects, I also agree that the newbies are pissing off the playground by making stupid posts and I don't make myself an exception. The resolution is if the the older members believe what newbie said or posted in the forum is inappropriate, the older member should normally and politely guide the newbie to the middle ground or show the way. If the newbie insist on his own way, let him be and stop posting anything in that thread thus killing the thread and kills the nonsenses in the forum. In addition to that, add the problematic newbie to the ignore status and add him to the CP bozo / troll list. No one needs to drive a troll out of the forum if everyone stops talking to the troll. He'll just leave or report him to the mods if the troll is really bothersome.
But by all means, name calling and inappropriate tagging should be stopped and all mature person should be over this. Also, anyone posting in the forum should realize that the forum is not a place to relieve your anger (whatever reason you may have with other people around you or due to other activities). I think the forum rules state that the any member (new or old) should not cause problems with one another but instead report the problematic person (if it's really serious) to the mod.
I just wish that CP is a good audio chatting place for all members new or old. After all, the members with newbie status might have something to share too.Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin: -

I'm also tired of this kind of crap. Our long time members need to knock there chips off there shoulders and realize that they/we are not the moderators of this forum. If you have a problem with someone , report them. Not add salt. the tail waggin the dog is a very good analogy.
I gave up my chip along time ago. I realized there is no time in the day for this 3rd grade ****. Another good one Steve.
I figure it this way, if we can't all get along, I think polk should step in, get rid of the members who constantly add this crap to our forum.New memebers or long timers, you guys should leave if you feel you have the right to talk to people like you do. It's embarrassing for polk and the rest of us.
Look around people, how many of us are left???
So my final comments tonight are think before you post please.

Lol. I agree, but I think steve is trying to appeal to those who DO seem to have an interest in perpetuating the trolling. I wish more people here would pay attention and listen to the established go to guys, instead of starting threads to tell us how much smarter they are than us. I'm NOT smarter, only been around long enough to let the good info soak in. Thank god for guys who seem at always have that trivia answer when needed the most.
Sigh. I think I'll just go back to tearing apart my $400 headphones to do a
mod I found a thread on another forum by a guy with a zillion posts
who knows his **** about Stax. You know, the guy who's done it
all twice and always has the right answer. Every forum has them.
All you have to do is pay a little attention!:D"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
Steve, we go back a long way. I refuse to believe you can't see that the level of trollism, idiocy, worthless posting, posting violations, you name it, has increased incredibly with the latest batch of newbs, certain ones absolutely being more guilty than others. I have no probs with audio questions of any knowledge level. But when the same shitbirds keep posting on non-audio, BANNED subjects, just to get a rise out of ANYBODY, or stoke whatever flames they can, excuse me, but I'm going to protect MY investment in this place, until the real management can get their act together.
If we weren't vigilant about running **** and trolls out of here over the last ten years ....... well you look at what we have now courtesy of the last few months, and do the math. -
Hey - the "Polk Clubhouse" may or may not have been meant to be a lot of things - but certainly it wasn't meant to be a place to talk about audio methinks. Maybe audio guys talking about anything BUT audio. So we talk about our friends, family, jokes, pictures, our bad day on the job, whatever. If you want to join the discussion, jump in, if not, move on. Don't call out the guy or gal that started it as a troll, miscreant, pirate or bad guy. It is what it is. I need a shot :eek::eek:
