No, you can't guarantee that and that is where the poor attitude lies. This is a forum and you wouldn't know these people from spit. Many of them have very diverse backgrounds, quite a few are electrical techs or engineers. Many, in fact, most of them have gained their experience from doing and THEN talking about it.

Go look at the age distribution. I can promise you that the veterans are in the upper age ranges and they were around long before the Intarweb. Their experience comes from years of tinkering away in garages, basements and audio rooms, just fooling around with gear. Some of them are very educated. Some aren't but all the experience and opinions are valid and valued even if they aren't in agreement. Some of the n00bs are educated and some aren't too. (Before anyone flips out, I mean educated as in college degrees and higher learning or a skilled trade that required trade school) But you wouldn't know it because for one thing they don't talk about it and for another an attitude like the one you just expressed is not going to make them willing to share any info with you at all.

Don't make assumptions about people you don't know. It's been said before, this is a unique place. Many people have stood face to face with each other here. Many have shared a beer or a shot and thrown down in the name of friendship. To most here these aren't names on a forum. They are Lou and George and Dave and Russ and the other Russ and the other other Russ and the OTHER other other Russ and Joe who isn't really Joe and Ted and Mark and Sean...and so on. Many have known each other for years and a few we knew personally even passed away like Greg and Shane and the charming Tiffany. They are sorely missed and often remembered for the people they were, not the names on the forum. These are friends, family, brothers and sisters. N00bs are not going to be readily accepted without a bit of trepidation because of that.

Making posts like this is a good way to prolong the acceptance. This is unique. We have Ivy League educated professors mingling with Oil Rig Roughnecks. We have staunch environmentalists mingling with hardcore racers. We have scientists and researchers mingling with accountants and financial analysts. We have gun nuts mingling with anti-gun nuts. We have Democrats mingling with Republicans! you name, we got it here. My God! What the hell is going on here?

The point is, anyone can blend in. Lose the 'tude and you will too.

Jstas - we haven't always gotten along on this forum - but the above post certainly earned you a beer at my expense if we ever meet. Chris :D:D:D

Jstas is an incredible bore. Paragraph four of his latest tirade is the essence of my argument. The diversity of people who OVER A GREAT MANY YEARS have come to know and love each other on this forum is staggering. You can realize an answer on a complete re-build of any Polk product coming anywhere from a Harvard trained professor, to a guy that delivers Pepsi. Under normal circumstances, nothing could get these people to argue. Nothing except the freakin' politics discussions, or the trolls that come here because they haven't been kicked out of here yet. Or the once in a great while occurrence of somebody not being able to keep up the facade, and you hear a little something volatile squirt to the top in a heated discussion, or one person finally becoming a rip-off artist, **** like that.

I have a big investment in this forum, and any FOOL that can't see that is welcome to try and have me removed.

Simple fact of life whether you are on the internet forums, a plane, or walking down the street. Just treat people the way you want to be treated and you won't have any problems with 95% of people. The other 5%, politely pay them no attention. A little thick skin helps, controversy and active discussion is good. If it becomes personal, then back away. A personal attack on Forums never leads to anything except name calling and people being banned. The atmoshere here is much better than the sports forums. Talk about brainless ****, they have most of them in a drunken haze cheering on their home team. Look for ways to have fun and learn on the Polk forum. There are plenty of good people here. And yes we can squabble a bit, but in the end if you stick around you become part of the community. Some people without much experience or knowledge just like to squabble for the sport of it. Just ignore them.

Rock on wit yo bad self!

Well if I act like an **** should I whine when I get treated like an ****? When I go into in strange place do I act like I have been there for a long time and start slinging crap? Not a very good way to introduce yourself if you really want to be a part of a group. To me PF stands for Polk family. Not Polk forum. When someone struggles here it is definitely heart felt. Newbs need to realize how good a lot of these guys they are insulting are, and starting crap with. When I first got here this was the first forum I actively joined. I acted like an ****, and I got a royal spanking. My only regret is I wish I learned a little(a lot) more respect a little(a lot) earlier. There are guys, and Gals that may never respect me till they actually meet me, and they may never actually never respect me. Sometimes I will send a friendly PM to newbs letting them know how we are on a personal level instead of throwing it out in the open forum, but that is real hard for me to do when you know the intent of some of these fools who have just joined to start crap. I have a little more understanding of a newb who comes here with good intentions, has really enjoyed audio, and wants to get there learn on. That was me. I was "into" audio, and had listened to some "experts" and read things from "experts" so I figured that I knew better than some of these masters and guru's. F1nut, and a few others spanked me when I was stupid, and I actually started using my ears instead of reiterating what I have heard in the past.
Newbs if you really want to learn stick around. If you are just looking to start crap please join the romper room forum.
    Ben
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

Why even respond to clowns that start threads like this, these are the type of people that would miss an opportunity to learn something about audio because they are too busy fighting the crowds at BB to get the 199.00 HTIB weekend special.. Please refer to the Bruce Willis pic above,,I actually distributed that one at my workplace and some people actually got pissed and took them down,,, as they say,, if the foo ****,,,;)

I for one, would like to welcome superjunior to Club Polk. We shouldn't forget our newer members! And you won't get spanked if you're cool, hang out, listen, learn, make a few good posts, ask some good questions and the old guys won't give you any problems, it's not that hard! They know quite a bit, and everybody has an individual personality here. Some are jokesters, others love IRONY, some come across as GRUFF and opinionated but are really Teddy Bears (most likely in person).

Because at a minimum, it shows people who actually think the forum revolves around them that it in fact doesn't.

This forum is bigger than those who 1) think they run it, and b) think that just by being here, they're entitled to comraderie without investing into the place.

If you (generic, not pointed towards anyone specifically) want people to OOOOHHHHHH and AAAHHHHHHH over you......quit being a ****........simple.
