Since I joined this forum the following has changed. My credit cards are maxed out, my savings account has shrunken tremendously, I have racked up about 1000 miles to buy gear, and my girlfriend is about to leave me because I spend to much time on here or playing with my new audio toys.
But I have met some real interesting people, I have learned alot, and my audio has never sounded better:D
Thanks guys!

I'd say that's a pretty normal path to our audio insanity...

I lucked out because my wife has really taken a liking to the results of my hobby.

Girlfriends are replaceable. Enjoyment of your audio system? That's going to last forever. Your audio equipment isn't ever going to get into a 3 day argument over a pair of shoes either... The audio equipment is always there when you want it, and does basically whatever you tell it to do. The same can't be said of most girlfriends.:p

Also...my knowledge of audio equipment has grown ridiculously since I came here and I barely know anything yet. I've accumulated enough to decide on what I want to get to start building my 2 ch. rig though, and round off my HT setup. Now I'm just putting it all together a piece at a time.

I have a better understanding of what it takes to build a kickass sytem. I also learned that even with unlimited funds, it's still possible to be broke. I also learned that having short arms and deep pockets is a good combo.

Damn laid it on the line... WOW.

Ok I spend maybe an hour a day on here give or take. I like to come in when I'm eating breakfast, then when I get home, and maybe before bed. yeah I just realized that could be some kind of problem...

I really enjoy learning and teaching about our hobby and my job. I was a member in like 1998 or so when I found out polk had this forum. It has gone threw many changes. I was trying to buy the Rt12's, then I picked up a pair of rt1000p's. I have swapped out so many things in my system I can't even count.
I think wire was the biggest thing I wasted/learned/ spent tons of cash on trying to find the right wire or if wire made a difference. powercords and all.

As far as the girlfriend thing goes, make sure you spend quality time with her if you care about her. Don't put your hobbies in front of them. I've done that in the past and it never works out well. But don't give up your hobbies for no women. Let her know you love this and find time for both.

I most certainly would have had more money in my account. All I wanted to do a few years ago was change speakers. So I was searching and saw some Polk SDA SRS and felt I just had to have them (and I hadn't even heard them yet), and nobody had anything negative so say about them.

Then I found this forum, asked my questions, and bought a pair off Ricardo. Then I bought a pair of 2.3 tl's. Then I bought a pair of 3.1 tl's. Then I bought Polk surround and center speakers. Then I bought and bought and bought and bought.....and as I keep learning and reading I keep buying...but not as much anymore.

Next thing you know, you'll be saying that cables matter. Sheesh.

Seriously, I found that there are lots of classy, smart people on this Forum, many of whom are willing to go out of their way to help others. Attend the next Polkfest and find out for yourself.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

    On a more serious note:

I came here with a new set of LSi7's, and about a year later, I turned my hobby into a side business. Then, with some more experience under my belt, I turned the side business into a full time job.

If it weren't for the help of Mark(doro), Russ(russman), Bruce(tour2ma), Ted(reeltrouble), Casey(millerman), and quite a few others here, I probably wouldn't have had this much fun with electronics-I taught junior high science before this.

I've gotten to meet Mr. Polk, Jacques Mahul(founder of JM Labs/Focal), or I wouldn't have the opportunity this fall to teach(I'll actually be learning) an advanced home theater design class with Anthony Grimani.

So, do you really want to know how this forum has changed my life?

lol...I never said I wasn't replaceable did I?:p That post was chock full of sarcasm in case it went amiss.;) No, you should never let a hobby take precedence over your significant other...there are more important things in life than having an awesome stereo(though not very many...lol).

I've just been very aggravated with the opposite sex for the last couple months...which led me to that post. I'll also have you know that my Monitor 7's are very soft and cuddly.

    Curt,

You're still young. There will come a time when you pass to the other side and dating, meeting and relating to the opposite sex will become almost effortless...and when it isn't, you'll know to get out immediately with no regrets. When I was your age. Sheeeesh, I couldn't 'do', 'say', or 'be' RIGHT! Hang loose, you've got the Monitors after all. And it gets much much BETTER!

Now...has this site changed my life? I had a friend once who went to NYC to become an 'actor'; he lived there trying to get parts and waiting tables for a half year. At which point we visited him...Duke (his nickname), we said, Have you gotten used to New York yet. He responded...'Hey man, it's not me who needs to get used to New York but New York that hasn't gotten used to me yet?.....Duke was a 'modest' guy, obviously.

Before I came to this forum, I was living life with boxed HT systems and a wife who didn't care.

Then taxes came, I splurged 2k on my current system...and now the wife LOVES it!

    Life changing? HELL YEAH!

Plus, I love being able to knock a glass off the counter in the kitchen during Terminator.
