SHEBOYGAN, Wisc. -- A Washington state woman visiting Wisconsin last year was arrested for drunken driving three times in three days, according to court records released Wednesday.

Jo A. Trilling, of Spokane, Wash., who was sentenced on the final two cases last week, was arrested in each case after driving off the road and getting her car stuck. She was arrested March 11, 12 and 13 of 2008, racking up a total of 30 days in jail and more than $3,000 in fines.

According to authorities: Trilling was first arrested about 2 p.m. March 11, 2008, when a Sheboygan County Sheriff's Department deputy noticed her trying to drive out of a ditch near the Kohler-Andrae entrance. The deputy noticed Trilling wore only one shoe and smelled of intoxicants.

A later blood test revealed a blood-alcohol level of 0.21, more than 2½ times the legal limit.

Exactly 24 hours later, the Kohler-Andrae park superintendent spotted Trilling's car stuck in the snow in a campground that was closed for the winter. He told Trilling she would have had to drive through a muddy side lane and maintenance gate to get to that point, and she said she did not remember that.

Trilling told an officer she had "four or six cups of wine," adding, "I am still finishing up the box of wine in my car from yesterday."

Police say they found a box of Black Fox wine and a partial cup of wine in the car.

Trilling was arrested and again served the mandatory 12 hours in jail before being released without bond, officials said. She then headed for Cottage Grove, in Dane County, where she was arrested after a citizen reported she was "all over the road," according to a police report.

A partial bottle of wine was found in the car. Trilling had a blood alcohol-level of 0.16.

The Cottage Grove case was concluded first and therefore listed in court records as the first offense. Trilling was fined $730 for that offense, $906 for the March 11 arrest in Sheboygan and $1,221 for the March 12 arrest in Sheboygan. Trilling was also fined $372 for an ordinance violation of resisting or obstructing an officer during the March 12 arrest.

Revoke her license and impound her vehicle for starters.

Seriously, 3 DUIs means only 30 days in jail?

Not if she was in Illinois. We have a law in legislature right now that would require one of those breath devices to be in place in any person's car after just the 1st conviction.

Sad that she was drinking in her car while driving. Take a way her car and DL for life, and if she continues to drink and drive throw her **** in jail for a long time.

It could be argued that such devices should be standard equipment in every vehicle, not to mention airplanes.

Sorry, drunk driving's a horrible thing, but suggesting over-reaching and ridiculously expensive and complicated legislation is so not what I believe in.

Indeed. Apology accepted. This can be an explosive subject, especially in California. This is already being pushed by MADD and others. Go after them! Besides, they probably listen to Bose and use Monster cables.

I was on a jury for a guy like this. He had one already, and they were
doing a court case for three at once. Complete with those copcar camera
videos of the guy sloppy drunk. He was hoping for a break by doing all
three at once. We hit him with 10 yeas, knowing that non-violent
offenders get out at 25% of time served. But that means he'll still have
7.5 years of supervised parole when done.

3 DUI's in 3 days.. and all she gets it fined for $3000 and 30 days in jail. she's going to do it again as soon as she gets out. I mean she was way over the legal limit to be driving. Sad, but she'll probably end up killing someone the next time she gets drunk behind the wheel.

I agree.. take away her car, and license.

Truly a sad story and good to hear that she didn't injured or kill anyone. This is the main reason for the need to push for more DUI/Drug Courts.

It's a victimless crime until she kills someone. 30 days in jail sounds about right to me. Chris

Is it a victimless crime if you shoot a gun into a crowd and don't hit anyone?

Er... how did you go from driving around drunk on (probably) empty streets to shooting guns into a crowd?

That is like comparing Madoff to Hitler and financial fraud to the Holocaust... it's not analogous at all.

It's a hyperbolic exaggeration for effect, they are obviously not directly comparable things.

However, they're not quite as far off as you like to make them. A car is a pretty goddamn effective weapon when driven into someone. Someone who's driving drunk not in control of their vehicle is essentially weaving a loaded weapon along the road amongst innocent bystanders. So while it's a victimless crime unless someone is actually injured, it's a reckless and arguably violent act that needs to be punished. First time, I can see a light punishment, but third offense in as many days? C'mon.

Maybe if someone you know gets turned into red jello on the side of the road cuz some drunk driver plowed through them at 60MPH you'll think again about the "victimless" crime.
