Have been on overseas assignment in India and now back home. Nothing when I turn it on - whether in Auto or Manual On. Nothing while connected when receiver is powered on. PLEASE HELP !!!

... could something have come lose inside the sub? are there checks or tests I could run to narrow down the probable issue here? Thanks!

Does that subwoofer have a fuse? Have you checked if the power cord has come loose? You are saying, if I understand you correctly, that no lights whatsoever come on?

Don't panic, if you, or none of the Club members can find the issue, Polk c/s will notice this thread soon enough and make some suggestions. Otherwise, if you are already in panic mode, just shoot them an e-mail or 'phone call. In any case, they'll sort you out.

Does the power light come on? sometimes the power cord becomes disconnected on the back of the sub even when it appears connected. Just try to push it in a bit.

    Hello,
If your system has been off for four months, it's possible the receiver has reverted to the default settings. Check to make sure the receiver's sub-out function is still programmed "on".
    Regards, Ken

Sorry - I am getting no sound from my sub. When I power sub up in standby mode - continuous red light. If I move to manual - green light - still no sound. If power up w/ primary on/off switch - lights come on but no sound. All lights & switches appear to be working - but no sound from sub. Not even a "pop" when I power sub on/off or power receiver on/off. Am very frustrated! Have also checked to make sure sub is "on" in receiver settings.

... I have an Onkyo TX-SR706 receiver - when I run Audyssey sound calibration it shows the sub & runs sound to it to calibrate the sub but no sound comes out of sub ...

Check all your connections (power and subwoofer cable), try another subwoofer cable if you have one, and check the settings on your Onkyo. Go through the menus and make sure the subwoofer is on, and that the level is sufficient. Also check that the "volume" knob on the rear is not turned down too low.

If you want to check that the subwoofer is working at all, then you can:

    1. Turn it off, and disconnect it completely from the receiver.
    2. Turn down the level to minimum.
    3. Connect a CD player directly to the subwoofer, without the receiver.
    4. Turn it on, and then turn on the CD player.
    5. Start play, and very slowly turn the level up and see if there is any sound.

If there is sound, that probably means the problem lies elsewhere, but Kenneth will sort you out, one way or another. His powers are the stuff of legend!

rsharp, try kex's troubleshooting steps this should be able to tell you if the problem is the sub, or the receiver.

Then step back and take a breath. You have been gone 4 months, were there any others in your home, roommates, children, cleaning service?

Was everything plugged in when you left? Was the sub left in power on/standby mode?

Were all your AC powered clocks correct or was there a power failure when you were gone? Sometimes trying to figure out what and when the failure occurred can aid in knowing what/where to start.

Not that it can't and doesn't happen, but things typically do not totally quit when idle/not in use.

If others were there in your absence, possibly the gain got turned down, a cable got disconnected or damaged, someone was using it maybe abusing it?
Power outages, storms caused a surge and caused damage?
The 505 is ported mice find there way indoors during winter sometimes. Possible a mouse or other critter found its way inside the sub and chewed some wires? Sounds crazy but you never know, a house left empty for 4 months could lead to some strange goings on.
Report back what else you find and there are lots here that can try to help, of course Polk support is your best avenue for most knowledgeable on your product.
    Good luck

LOL - found the "cat" ! Seems my 16 year old son somehow "accidently" pulled the sub cable out from the receiver and plugged it back into the "DVD" sub jack instead of preamp sub jack - so sub really was never getting a signal. Thanks for help & advice guys! I actually plugged my laptop iTunes into the sub (tks Kex!) & could hear music from sub as I raised volume - so started swapping cables & then rechecked cabling and voila - all is right w/ the world again.

... now I have to tweak w/ new SurroundBar 50 "Santa" got me for Christmas ... am running "Y"cable from receiver into 2 filtered sub jacks and adjusting sub volume & low pass controls (I have read multiple posts saying this is optimum setup). Will see if I agree.

... have also abandoned the surround L & R channels on the SurroundBar for Cambridge Soundworks S205 bipole/dipole surrounds (they are almost giving them away!) I also picked up a smaller set of S100's (also adjustable bipole/dipole surrounds) to experiment with. We'll see which ones work better. Have the 205's mounted right now - they are semi-circular shaped and look great on the walls - and so far fill in nicely giving me more spatial sound from the surround channels than the SurroundBar did, BUT LOVE the look and sound of the SurroundBar50 under my 52" LCD! (Santa was good to us this year!)
