Have you calibrated it yet? It looks like your losing a lot of detail in the darker areas, it could just be your camera though.

    Thats just sick....

What rear speaker mounts are you using on your RTI's? are you able to angle them at all?

The projector is calibrated so its the camera, the projector performs very well and the image is great. The rear speakers are B-tech 77 and yes I am able to aim them vertical/horizontal. The projector throws a sick image.

Does everyone recommend using a professional color calibration on these units or do most folks just run with it out of the box with just some manual fine tuning? Any thoughts on how the RS10 compares to the Sony VW60?

You can use DVE to put you in the ballpark area of a calibrated image. I used the DVE with the HD1 Rob has and the image was very good. I played with the settings on the RS10 and out of box the colors were off. The calibrated image adds more pop, excellent shadow detail.

JVCs over the Sony anyday, so consider a used HD/RS1, the Pio PFJ1 and of course the RS10. All of these are under 3k, with the RS10 just there around 3600-3700. No dynamic iris with the JVCs so you get great blacks which is where the JVC's really shine. I've seen the new Sony VW80, not sold in US and it is also very good , but the RS10 still does a better job. Take a look at one for yourself and decide. All the new PJs are rather close in performance anyway, but if the budget allows shoot for the JVC's.

Ordered the RS10 and it should arrive later this week (before I'll have time to start putting everything together. Ugh)

I have a fairly tall ceiling in the screening room and would prefer to not have the projector hanging down five or six feet on the mount. My understanding is that the projector is fairly flexible with the projection angels, is that true? Any other mounting or start up issues to be aware of in advance?

    Thanks

Congrats Vinny, youre in for a treat. I would mount the projector on shelf if you dont want to ceiling mount. The RS10 does have keystone correction but understand you lose some PQ using keystone and it is normally advised not to use it. The projector has plenty horizontal/vertical lens shift so you're good there. How big a screen did you go with?

It's a 105 inch screen. We just moved into a new house and the prior owner had the screen (and sub-optimal setup), but figured I would invest the money in new equipment and then redo the screen and room configuration in the future. UPS is telling me the RS10 should arrive on Friday, but I probably won't have time to properly install it until the following Saturday. In the meantime, I'll just leave it on a counter in the back of the room and lock the kids out.

Really, really, really have to find the time to get the room up to speed so I can start enjoying the new projector. Anything you wished you had known when setting it up -- any funny tricks, features, problems?

None really, my projector was calibrated so I can't really say much, if you want I can share my settings and you can make adjustments there and see what you like. OoTB I didnt like the preset colors, but once I adjusted Custom Gamma curve and calibrated colors the PQ is very nice.

If you're going to ceiling mount, suggest you get with ProjectorPeople and buy the Chief Mount RPA-U model, they also carry the ceiling mount and down pipe if needed.

Thanks! Those are some pricey mounts, but they look solid. My current ones aren't going to hold my RTi4's when I move them to the rear. Anyone else sell them besides Crutchfield and Polk? looks like Polk is the cheapest at $59.99.

If the JVC is out of your price range, look at the new Panny 3000 or new Epsons.

Watched parts of a couple of blu-ray movies and the projector in 1080p looks fantastic. Did a quick test with a 1080i Dish Network broadcast of the NBA Playoffs on TNT and ABC as well as part of a movie (TBS HD I believe) and I wasn't thrilled with the look coming from the satellite. Anyone have any experience with broadcast signals and tweaking the picture quality on the RS10 for sports, shows, etc from Dish or other? I've got to figure out if there is a way to save a setting for Blu-ray and another for better broadcast tv.

I think the Dalite screen that was installed by the previous owner of our house is a weak point in the PQ right now, but I may have to live with it for a time until I can revamp the room and move from a 105" to 120" screen.

I'm planning to mount the RS10 to the ceiling this weekend (as well as run some new speaker cables through the ceiling / walls). Can't wait to get everything buttoned up so I can get down to business.

I use User one for BD ( pro calibration) and I use dynamic for gaming, etc. You need to calibrate that unit for it to really shine. You'll definitely get better imaging, pm me ya email address and I will take snap shots of my settings and send it. Out.

I would love to come over and give that bad boy a ISF calibration. But I would have to fly to Japan, eat mad sushi , maybe check out all the cool spots ,hit the audio shops, go shopping , check out all the local hotties, then hit the crib for the Calibration.

    It would be fun.

O and then I would have to setup the audio system. Calibrate that as well.

So when should I expect my plane tickets?

Everything calibrating over here already, had the projector calibrated at AVS, sure you could probably tweak my auduo setup a tad more outside of MCACC and my SPL meter. You can crash here but you have to pay your own route. Food, hotties, bars, drinks, all on me. Come on out.

Isn't Sherard's old HD1 already calibrated? The only differences I can think of are screen and room, so it shouldn't require much more than adjustments to color temp. to match the screen??

Yeah PJ was calibrated by local Japanese video shop, then other tweaks by myself using DVE software. Not much left to do with it, perhaps color temp as mentioned. That HD1 is a beast though, I liked it allot.

Hey Dan you should take Rob up on that offer man, not far at all. I go through there and visit after going to McConnellsburg PA for meetings. Dude can really grill and his family is awesome. That HT room is very sweet. Hence the ideas for my own room.
