You mean in a Biblical way ?

I don't know. Thanks for trying to explain to me but you just screwed with my brains.

I Definitely Not Mean it in Biblical way but quite straight forward as my lack of understanding in some people's post.

I am curious why some folks here love to jump on someone's back on the opportunity knock?

I thought this is Audio Forum and not reality show?

WTH with Sailors and YITBOS anyway, CaligulaPolk?

Edit : I see you've added explanation in the above post and it makes all sense now. :D Disregard the **** my brain part.
Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin:

Since I'm the only one that mentioned every branch, I gonna go ahead and assume you are referring to and call you a jackass. You can shove your smiley where the sun don't shine too. I have never been enlisted in any branch of the military. I passed the Marine test entirely too easily and decided it wasn't for me and I'd waste my time there. The Air Force wasn't recruiting at the time, the Army test was equally as easy as the Marine test and the Navy test was not so easy but I passed in the 90% range and they told me that I would be better off going to college instead of joining the Navy. I know, go ahead and tell me my recruiter should be court marshaled and all this other military bravado. I don't care.

I worked for government contractors. I worked on many projects, all of them sensitive and classified. Many will never be declassified. Well except for the work on the weather radar we did with NASA. That never really was classified except for the radar equipment we used to make it.

So yeah, pencil pusher, maybe. If it's supposed to be an insult, maybe in your small minded world. See 'cause of guys like me, grunts like you were able to use the weapons, equipment and vehicles that you did to keep your butt alive so you could come back and call me a pencil pusher. Good deal.

And please, pencil pushing doesn't require "allot"? Maybe you should learn proper English and get a grasp on basic vocabulary before you try to insult a "pencil pusher".

I'm not going to get into this with you buddy, you did well writing up those reports and rendering salutes while you were at work. Time served, thank you.;)

Marines are sailors. So are SEALS. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it. I'd rather be Air Force or Navy, they are the ones with the REALLY cool toys! Then again, the Coasties get to shoot at drug runners and board pirate vessels. Arr, ye matey! .

To imply that the PRESIDENT'S OWN are sailors IS an outright insult to every Marine that has ever worn the uniform of a United States Marine, and in my younger days would have been grounds for that individual to learn what a first class can of whoop-**** was.....

Besides, most Navy, Air Force and Army will stand by and watch Marines play games like "Bonk Bonk" (if you're a jarhead, you know what it is.) and shake their heads and say things like " 'effin' jarheads." .

I know this game well but you have it all wrong... let me explain. When aboard ship, navy personel called seamen like to play games such as hide the trouser trout or playing skinflute with each other in large groups called shellback parties. The Bonk Bonk game is played by marines beating the crap out of those frisky sailors for BOINKING each other....:p

It's funny how some who (rightfully) take so much pride in defending this country, are so eager to throw a beating to those they brag about protecting.

    Enough with the **** already.

the only civilian getting a salute is the commander in chief... even the sec/def does not rate one. curious as to your civilian job if they saluted you. as to the derogatory comments, the MARINE CORPS is the ONLY self sustaining branch of our nations armed forces, we have our own air force (7th largest in the world) ground forces, amphibious assault capability without need for naval support, Airborne and special forces units., further my beloved CORPS can get there faster and hit harder than any military force on earth...

And if the navy should ever gaze upon Heaven's scenes
they shall find the gates are guarded by the UNITED STATES MARINES

Don't forget about your Navy Doc. ;)

I'm a Senior Chief Petty Officer (Retired) with 21 years of service with over half of that time at sea. While happily serving, I had more than my share of "assisting" these so-called "pencil necked geeks" while experimenting with systems. Normally, they were afforded the status of an O3 for berthing and dining. My guys would ask me what was the deal with "tech rep X" and how do we treat him? My response would be to treat him as you wanted to be treated. If they happened to be arrogant, mightier than thou and I found out about it, the rep would be spoken to by either me or the department head.

Now that I am a "pencil necked geek", doing the experimental work, I'm very careful how I treat our young sailors when aboard ship. Since I've been on both sides of the line, I can draw on that experience and tell the youngsters to relax, I'm just a worker like they are even if I am not. No standing up or saluting me, my name is Gordon. Every once in awhile, I'll run into somebody who was a very junior person when I was still active, who is now the Chief and he'll call me Senior. I'll greet them and thank them for remembering me but I go by Gordon now.

My experience has shown me that capping the ego and focus on the job at hand with the sailors obtains much quicker and quality results than standing on protocal and barking.

    Just another squid chiming in:

I didn't serve as long as Hawkeye, only 5 years, but I did do tours' on both coasts, and on both ships, did 'yard' time, where they do repairs, upgrades, and retrofits.
While I never saw a civilian saluted, they did have authority over the ships crew when it came to 'shakedowns'. Basically, after a ship is retrofitted, or whatever, the Navy will bring on people, from Navsea, usually engineers, and they'll have the ship's crew do some OUTRAGEOUS ****, that says specifically, NOT to do that, in the onboard publications.
I remember one time, we had just done a retrofit of some sort, and the civilians had us do something, that brought EVERYONE in the engineering dept. to the ask the same question:" WTF? Are you high?" We finally got the OK. from the C.O., but it was a little nerve racking.

So yes, civilians DO have authority on board a ship, but I never saw them get saluted.
And NO, I'm not saying Jstas is full of BS, just saying I never saw it:o
I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

and you never will... With deference to Jstas, it is plausible that due to the lack of respect he received from the crew, their superiors ordered them to do so as a means of ensuring the men got the message. If he was in the company of naval officers when the salutes occured, they would have been for those officers and not him

Thanks for serving and major congrats on the retirement. I agree with you, I'm on the other side of the fence as a contractor now and am often referred to as sir by the E-6's and below. I tell them to relax, "I'm not a "sir" as I'm probably younger than you are." Even though I'm a civilian, I have to admit it has it's pros and cons. I mainly miss the brotherhood, versus civilian workforce. I'm sure most can relate.

Welcome to CP babble. Heckova first post.
Gives me a chance to chime in with my "Semper Fi"
Yes, I was in the USMC, proud of it, and still like to have "pissin contests" with other branches of the service. It's like tradition. Ya just gotta fu.. with someone occasionally and easy it's to mess with some other dumbass that joined up instead of getting drafted. Yep, I'm old enough to have worried about my # being called. I joined anyway. Shows I ain't got 'nuff smarts to be taken seriously.
USMC IS dept of navy. USMC was founded by drunken Naval Officers in a tavern.
I never saluted a civilian (at least while sober anyway that I remember) and when possible there were some officers didn't rate the effort either. Of course my mom does rate a salute at the very least. "I love you Mom".
I did duty on a couple of ships in my later years in security and seldom did I see civilians (that I know of) in secure areas on ship. I always followed the chain of command and salutes were rated by rank only. Then again, hell... I was in the USMC and no one ever told me squat! Nor did I want to know squat either.
BTW, myself and any Marine loved the USAF when I was at Khe Sahn, loved the navy taxi service on the Sappone river on a rat or PBR, had more than one joint operation with the US Army and didn't mind the smell at all. Hell, they smelled as bad as we did. Must have been the same **** duty as we had.
All military branches have their special place in my heart and memories. OH, and lest I forget....to all you recruiters and officers.....go screw yourself! I can say that now without repercussions or regrets. I hope.
Thanks to all who serve and support our country. From our Commander in Chief to the lowest fng putting on the uniform for the first time. God Bless, stay safe, and remember don't volunteer for nuttin'.

The USMC is BOTH a separate branch AND a part of the Navy. Wiki is your friend.

"The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is a branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for providing force projection from the sea,[3] using the mobility of the U.S. Navy to rapidly deliver combined-arms task forces. It is one of seven uniformed services of the U.S. In the civilian leadership structure of the United States military, the Marine Corps is a component of the Department of the Navy,[4][5] but in the military leadership structure it is a separate branch,[6] while often working closely with US Naval forces for training, transportation, and logistic purposes."

First off, I'd like to thank enriram4life for digging this thread back up.

The OP's intent did get derailed (by Jstas's cleverly disguised attempt to socialize our military forces into some kind of Commie-inspired, civilian-worshipping lackeys .... or something evil like that). While it's slightly derailed, I'd like to take this opportunity to offer a "Hand Salute" to the military. In particular, the Marines.
