Yes it is, but IMO it's not enough. Anyone caught ripping off another member deserves to have their name dragged thru the mud for all to see. It's been CP's form of punishment since before I came here and it's one reason why we have a relatively safe flea market.

I'm with Jesse on this one.

I'm not excusing someone from messing up a sale........but there are way too many people that seem to act as if they've been personally wounded by someone elses deal. If THIS is your level of pain from a 3rd party's internet transaction, I'm almost afraid to ask how wounded you are with things in your daily lives.

Well Brett, it is OUR flea market, so I think everyone should feel wounded.

Isn't the Member Sales Rating supposed to make potential buyers and sellers aware?

Just curious if that's not enough.

It's certainly ONE tool a buyer can use. I only have a seller rating of 4 because I just don't buy/sell a lot. I would never even consider not following thru on an obligation. A guy with a 40 rating might not feel the same way.

I've heard of people getting shafted on e-bay with sellers who have 100% positive for 1000 sales. It happens, but yes a large positive seller rating should give some piece of mind.

Here I would look more for a buyer/seller who has a "vested" interest in the forum and who is a valued contributor (not just post count). I've had some hairy deal with Agon/E-bay and luckily all the sellers were top notch in making sure things were right.

I've done the same as a seller here when I sold my sl2000's to a passer by. They both worked when they left here......when he got them (packed in the rdo boxes) one didn't work he claimed. I didn't hesitate to make it right because a $20 dispute just wasn't worth it. I refunded, no questions asked.

IMO, it's all in the communication. That's where many of these issues start sometimes. I am a freak about communication during a buy/sell/demo process. It's common sense and it's a courtesy far too many ignore.

If you can't be bothered or don't have the time to communicate and follow thru then you shouldn't be buying/selling stuff. PERIOD!

I had "communicated" out my **** with the fellows. The thing is these folks "stop" communicating and disappear make empty statements and so on, just like in this case.

Stuff it. I put "inner circle" in quotes because it doesn't exist. GG was right. The pandering to the pack is old. If you're gonna have your own opinion, great! But jumping on a bash this dude bandwagon is just lame. Further more, commenting on the moral fortitude of a member that has been hanging around here 5-6 times longer than you is kind of crossing the line. Especially if said member has friends and connections and past experiences have been positive. How can a n00b comment on any of that if they haven't been around for it? It's not about who can what. It's about common respect. A n00b bashing someone with history is just out of line. I wouldn't stand idly by if a friend of mine was being harassed by another friend of mine who just met him. I think it sucks that others here allow it to happen. But see, that's what it's all about. We look out for each other. If the guy has personal issues at home, I more likely to try and work things out instead of kicking a guy when he's down and calling him trash, garbage, deadbeat and so on.

If you think the situation sucks, fine, I think it does too. Does that mean I have any right to pass judgment on someone else? No, it doesn't. I can only judge actions, not people. The offending actions were poor choices and the offending party needs to make right. His character doesn't need to be slaughtered, he already did that himself. The n00bs that don't know anyone more than a screen name certainly have even less place to bash someone than the old timers. IMO, nobody has the right to bash a bad seller/buyer. It's between the seller/buyer and no one else.

Also, don't preach to me. You have no idea who I am. I've been here much longer than you. I've had much more history here than you and I've had many more transactions in the flea market than the stupid little numbers next to my name suggest. You have no idea if I've been screwed over or not. So save the paternal lectures and condescension for someone else.

No, you're right. At some point you gotta say enough is enough. But at the same time this is a buyer beware deal. When I enter a transaction, I make sure all pertinent info is exchanged. Email, phone number and address so I can find them. I ask for tracking numbers. A few have gotten pissed off that I asked for tracking numbers. But honestly, when it comes down to it, my interests are mine to protect. Even though things are pretty OK here, it's obvious that some times they aren't and one needs to protect themselves first.

As far as expressing opinions, yeah, great, you're right. But if some lame brain came in here with 200 posts under his belt and joined last week would you tolerate him bashing brettw22 over a deal with George Grand because, say, brettw22 stiffed him on a deal? I don't think you would. I know I wouldn't. You know both of them well. They have been here quite long and both are your buddies. Not to say that it would actually happen but if it did, you'd be pretty ticked off at the n00b for interjecting his inexperienced and misinformed opinion about either party or the transaction. He'd be out of line because, like Ricardo already said, it's YOUR flea market too just as they are YOUR friends too and you don't know this zipperhead n00b from spit so where does he get off mouthing off about anything?

So express opinions. That's fine. Speak your mind, that's fine too. But just like those speaking their mind about things they know nothing about I and Brett and others are allowed to speak our minds about how we think it sucks that Mouthy the n00b gets to run his mouth all over someone that he doesn't know at all but I've known for years and even shook the man's hand.

John, you can't avoid having the new members "participate". They are forum members too, and though I fully agree that sometimes some of these new members act like if they have been here for years, some are annoying, and some are just plain stupid, that's just the way things are.

    Welcome to the internet.

Edit: just to be fair, there are also some new members that contribute and bring good things to the forum, as there are also old members that are annoying and stupid.

as of new member this year, i enjoy coming here talking to nice people, hate to see them driven away (They helped me, researched with me, that I appreciated a lot) or meeting potentinal new cool members in the near future because of those people cant keep their promises. a dollar make a big difference if not returned.

Hell if i am in the situation where i am losing my home or whatever and need to sell my electronics to save my home. People would be skeptic buying from me because i have no history, but am honest who will send stuff when received money. These people who did not, hurt our potentinal&current forum members, polk customers, sales here, this forum's flea market reputation. You sure dont want people going other forums and say this " Polk audio forum members stood idle while people stole. I am glad i am not a member of that crooked community," stuff like that. WE need stand up for others in the community where you frequently go to and enjoy the site.

95% of you are nice people!! You know you are better than that!!! :D

I hate these scammers, they stole money from me, 600 dollars!! They never change. Backing up for other members here is not against the law, wont be arrested, and for these people who stole, will be arrested, felony, and some jail time. There are a lot things i learned here, DONT MESS WITH POLKIES is one of them!! this make me mad!!

I've been here quite a while and get the feeling I'll always be considered a "n00b" simply because I DON'T pander to the old schoolers here. Some are cool, some are complete a$$holes, just like the new folks.

And while the "inner circle" apparently doesn't exist, this sure as hell sounds elitist:

You have no idea who I am. I've been here much longer than you. Who gives a fack. The know it alls will continue to be know it alls, and the truly helpful people will continue to be truly helpful. In regards to the original post, if I get burned by a seller, and I try to make it right with him/her for months and nothing comes of it, then I am most certainly going to call him/her out to other members so they can avoid the same debacle/ hopefully get him/her to fess up with what is owed to me.

I guess you are right; some growing-up is definitely needed here. Sorry but this post count, GURU, MASTER old timer crap is getting to the head of the man. The heavy weight MASTER feels good about nOOb crushing and bashing (as you can see it comes back sooo often in his discussion). This is typical of people with low self esteem... Sorry for my honesty but this thread is even more negative than the one you are trying to put down. Well, as a nOOb, I'll have to get use to this site and and have the wisdom of finding out who is actually worth of respect and trust as little title below names and amount of posts don't mean much to me (this thread highly proves this). I know my little reply may piss off a few here but what the heck, my being here isn't to be liked but ratter learn and share. As I promised, I am staying away from the Maurice thread and I can promise to stay away from this one as it isn't worth it. Let's move on to some positive Polk threads/discussions/sharing :D

    Cheers ;)

There are some on this forum that always seem to move from opinion into personal attack--they are quite predictable, and easily ignored.

While I disagree with Bretts opinion, I respect the fact that he has a right to state his.

I Agree with Brett, if you got screwed by someone a post to let everyone know to be cautious of the seller is one thing but why destroy someone like that? Surely if he reads the forum and see's everyone bashing him its going to piss him off and the buyer may never get the transaction straight. Ive gotten a lot of useful info from a lot of people on here, but unless I have a POLK question, I refuse to post on here anymore because the senior members just try to make you look stupid, sorry guys...its a fact.

    Good Lord.

snow: Yeah, stuff it. You're offbase and running your mouth about me, something you know nothing about. So yeah, stuff it. No growing up is needed. I know who I am and I know where I stand and it obviously doesn't jive with your fragile little world. Calling me names, telling me I need to grow up and laughing at me will not change my mind or point of view so again, stuff it. When you can come up with a more substantial argument that's not based on what you want to see but in actually what I've tried to say, I'll listen. Until then, stuff it cause I am not interested in what you have to say.

jflail2: Elitist? Really? I get attacked by someone who is questioning my position...well, here, I'll post it for you, in context, unlike you that drags my words out of context to hold them up as an example of what they aren't.

In that quote, snow makes the backhanded comment "Perhaps someday you will get ripped off for something and no one will say a word because they know that you would want them to mind there own buisness." to which the quote you made from me was responding to. My post was not elitist. It was stating that my history here far exceeds what snow knows and his backhanded comment is out of left field. The truth is I have been screwed here. I handled it. How did it pan out? My business, not yours and doesn't matter anyway because the user who did the **** is no longer here.

As far as the "inner circle" idea goes, if there is one, I don't know about it because I'm sure as hell not in it. I know I'm not liked here. That's fine because there are a few I like and get along with. The rest that don't care for me, I just like relieving myself in your Wheaties because you get all spun up about it and we get to see the true colors of the people who tell me I'm "elitist" and "a know it all". It's petty, really. As far as how people view you, most probably don't because they don't know you because you don't participate. But I suppose that makes me "elitist" and "a know it all too".

TECHNOKID: Newsflash for you. You're one of the n00bs that I've been referring to.

Have I disrespected you in some way?

Now for a general statement not pointed directly at you. Respect is earned not commanded.

Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. My comments were not directed to you in any way H9....The only person I feel I need to "earn respect" from is my parents, my wife and the person that signs my paycheck.....other than that its a 2 way street.;)
