Deal's gone south threads.....

If a deal goes south, I agree that it's right to bring it to light in the forum.

What I absolutely can't get over is the pack mentality of annihilating someone with every post.

I'm calling for this to stop/cease/end.

Well wishes for the buyer are sufficient, but this mantra of every derragatory thing said/done to a person is over the line.

I'm not excusing someone from messing up a sale........but there are way too many people that seem to act as if they've been personally wounded by someone elses deal. If THIS is your level of pain from a 3rd party's internet transaction, I'm almost afraid to ask how wounded you are with things in your daily lives.

How you benefit as a third party is you are given information which you can either use or not use in future transactions. That should be the end of your 'involvement' in the matter (other than the above mentioned well wishes to the buyer).

Unless you have direct information as to the cause of the deal going south, then I urge you to move along.

Quit turning these types of threads into character assassinations......please.

of course worrying about the feelings of the perp is a trend, not one I worry about in my business, but definetly a trend.

Positive peer pressure is what keeps people honest. It's just a shame that nobody gives a damn enough anymore to apply it. Agree 100% Ted.

If you buy something and hit hard times, CALL THE SELLER. Surely something can be worked out--if nothing else, return the item or money. There's no excuse for "disappearing" PERIOD.

i see both sides.. obviously we need to hear about some of the deals gone bad.. but do agree that we don't need to start a pack mentality and bash the seller for the next 6 months.

As i said before in one of the other threads. I was just surprised that this member is acting they way he is. given that he's been on here for a number of years and participated regurlarly.

So if the mods or Justin haven't had a problem with it so far... I assume that they are not concerned about it either, unless is gets downright nasty.. which I hope it doesn't.

The newbie "pandering" to the pack is extra special this week.

What do you mean "this week"? That implies it had not only a start point but an end point as well and I have not seen the latter as of yet.

Brett, this is history again, I agree with you completely. What is that? Like the 2nd or 3rd time?

I think it's good that everyone watches out for each other and even just saying something like "Yo, dude, that's not how bidness is handled here. Straighten up and fly right." is barely needed. But the constant bashing of others when we know nothing of their situation besides one side of the story presented is quite tiresome.

Then everyone wonders why the guy won't speak up. He's afraid of getting ganged up on! Everyone hits problems. Yeah, you shouldn't buy if you can't pay...yada, yada, yada. We all know the deal. But honestly, all you need is a little communication. Give the guy a chance to communicate his situation. If he ends up being a jerk about it, have at it.

Otherwise, we all run in to problems. I know I've had a couple transactions get behind because I was tied up with personal things. A simple note to the seller with a reasonable explanation and a new time line on when to expect a payment was all that was needed to straighten stuff out.

Bottom line, if you are gonna buy, communicate. If you are gonna sell, communicate. Be flexible and reasonable but don't abuse the generosity of others. Above all, each name on this forum has a person behind it. We are all human. Remember that. If you wouldn't feel comfortable saying it in person, don't post it here.

Thanks for for pointing to this thread George. I'll stay away from that discussion as you guys are right, not exactly positive. Matter of fact, I joined the club on jan 2008 and after surfing through some discussions and reading some kind of war between members, I decided to stay away from this forum as it didn't seem to be what I was looking for (only wanted to know better about Polk, get some pointers on my new aquisitions and share with people that shared the same passion. So, I should have known better and simply ackowledge the buyer's lost. What got me going strong in the negative discussion was that MrNightly was very compassionate about the seller's situation and from what I see from his sharing on the forum is a respected member and those are values I highly respect still, I shouldn't have digged in to the negativity and argumenting.

However ;) your above comment isn't that much better! I always take this lightly but it always puts a smile on my face when I see the "newbie" expression used in somewhat in a prejudice way. The way I see it, this is the internet and while conversations are virtual, not seeing and not knowing who we are dealing with, I find very erronic when people think or take for granted that so called Newbies don't know what they are talking about. No offense, just food for tought...

Anyway, to go back to this discussion, thank you again George for pointing me to the wisdom of this discussion. As I said, I'll stay away from it as I know the best the best way not to keep such discussion going is not to respond. I share your concerns and surely hope it doesn't go sour as the main goal of forums are for knowledge and passion sharing.

    Cheers!

Brett, you posted in that thread and it wasn't a positive post. Also, never say never. Mr Nightly was wished good luck from Mr. Grand and post #57 had some positive things to say.

Why would you make a negative post in a thread you just made a thread to call out such behavior?

Unfortunately, this is PRECISELY what is NOT happening. If people would do the right thing & communicate, these threads wouldn't exist.

You kept whoever you were dealing with informed of the situation. With that happening there is nothing to complain about. That's the RIGHT way to handle a transaction.

not to put to fine a point on it, but just because someone's life is screwed does not in any way give the person a right to screw others lives up too. forgiving and overlooking such behavior is why our economy is screwed right now... I agree that those with no stake in the matter could perhaps tone it down a bit, but if you screw someone... you know what to expect from this place already, hence few are willing to do so in the first place.

If an audio purchase of any kind is going to screw up your life then you need to re-evaluate your priorities.

And what's this "we gotta start standing up"? When did you get here? How long have you been active? The standing up for ourselves here has been going on long before you ever knew what Polk Audio was. The forum here has been around 10 years at least now. Business has been handled this way for that long. Previously, it was gems like wangotango who got the pile-on treatment. But lately it's been a herd mentality where every schlub gets dumped on no matter what. Usually by incensed long-timers and over-zealous n00bs looking to impress those long-timers and gain access in to the "inner circle".

Ben, if your feelings are still hurt from a few weeks ago, get over it.......

Any of y'all are free to point out where I said what has happened was OK or I've condoned his actions. He should be held accountable and fix what happened. If that's verbalized too gently for you.......who the eff cares. I'm certainly not gonna apologize for not acting 10.

Guess who has the right to be furious.......the one's who got the raw end of the deals. If y'all have to posture this much on an internet forum on something that doesn't even involve you directly, y'all have issues.

Personally I dont see what all the fuss is about regarding the treatment of someone who cant seem to either communicate or keep there word. Anyone who has lurked on these boards for more than 30 days or has been a member for any period of time knows whats coming. I understand this fellow is going through a hard time in his life and I truly can sympathize with that but even if you were homeless you can still find a library or internet cafe to send a PM or email at. I also truly believe that if this bashing ganging up on or whatever you would like to call it didnt take place there would be far more bad deals happening.

    My 2 cents

Geez if your that desperate for approval online then you really need help :D Sometimes I think people take this whole old timer/noob stuff way to seriously. Perhaps someday you will get ripped off for something and no one will say a word because they know that you would want them to mind there own buisness.:p
