What used to be sunny SoCal is now dark and wet. Rained all day yesterday, they are expecting 2-4" today and continued raining tomorrow, clearing on Friday. With yet another storm rolling in on Sunday. My roof is leaking in the garage, most likely due to the missing shingles that got torn off with the Santa Ana winds (clocking 96 mph) a month ago. The leak is small and at the edge of the roof near the garage door, nothing critical. Got one quote for a re-roof, $4,280. I've got two layers up now and it is 21 years old. It's time for a new roof, that's way I did not repair anything. There were at least 500 earthworms on my front patio and steps this morning. When the sun comes out, they'll dry up and stick like mother-f'er's. Gotta get out the metal scraper to get them up. Just found out Linda's pregnant with child #2 and going through hormonal ups and downs...weeeeeeeee!

I want a beer and to go play in the flooded gutter then take a nap! But no, I gotta work.

Peace Out~:D

    Ron,
I used to scrape off those pesky earthworms, but I learned that the easiest way is to hose them in two steps, first soak them in with plenty of water, wait 10 min, and blast them with garden hose. It works much better in my case, than having to use the scraper....

We're having one hell of a cold winter here in Sudbury, Ontario. I'm getting the itch to golf and there's still another 2 and half months till the courses open.

It's funny how everyone sort of brags about the bad weather in their city.

For the record, it's -6 degrees F here right now and supposed to go down to -24 degrees F overnight.

Let's see someone beat that. :p

Ron, you should definitely get 25 or 30 year shingles on the job. I've heard LOTS of people having problems with 20 year shingles. You probably already know this but I thought I'd offer the advice.

Haven't had this much rain in a long time. It's much needed though, so I shouldn't complain. Just wish I was at Disneyland today. Love being over there in the rain.

Nope just one, but damn, reaching way back with that GM comment. But, it's true, can't watch that movie, at least that scene because of that.

The quote I got is for 30 year shingles and a 5 year warrenty on all workmanship. Got another quote coming in early next week. Just have to live with a blue roof for awhile.

Spent 2 hours yesterday tarping my roof. Luckily, no damage, caught it all in time.

Well ya got me beat in upstate NY. It was -4 the other morning, but it usually heats up to the single digits or even the teens.

It's been a rough winter so far - snow fall is approaching record levels, and commuting has been loaded with traffic accidents.

The cold has been pervasive and downright uncomfortable for both man and beast, making my normally pleasant small game hunting season quite challenging for both me and the dogs.

A bunch of the deer herd won't make it through this winter either - snow cover and temps in the negatives at night are simply taking their toll.

A buddy of mine who is into varminting has had an excellent season, though, for the very same reasons - due to the bad weather the fox and coyotes are very receptive to predator "animal in distress" calls and he has bagged a ton of varmints this season and has enjoyed some excellent pelt sales. He nailed a whopping 71 pound coyote the other day that had been decimating some local livestock - did the farmer a big favor. This thing looked lke a friggin' wolf! He couldn't take a .243 Win 100 grain soft point behind the shoulder, though. ;)

I can't remember if it was last year or the year before. I little furthur north from here, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources had to setup some feeding area for deer because the snow was too deep for them.

I saw a coyote, "I Think...?", for the very fist time in my yard. The damn thing was chasing my neighbor's dog!!! When it saw me it broke off the chase and headed back into the pine groves behind my place. It was HUGE and kinda silver/white and some black on his coat.

When I called the neighbors to let them know they told me I was nuts and coyote's don't chase dogs. Is this true? I was a little hungover standing with my morning coffee and smoke out in the freezing cold, but damn I know what I saw. I don't smoke in the house or around the baby so thats why I was outside in the first place.

Hell no, it's not true. Coyotes will chase and eat anything smaller and weaker than they are - domestic pets are one of their favorite targets. Many a cat and small dog has "disappeared" from back yards in rural areas where coyotes are known to frequent. A friend in a neighboring town has a black Lab and a Brittany and both of them have mixed it up with the coyotes in his back yard.

In fact, a rabid one recently chased his neighbor's daughter INTO their house and cornered her in the office den! She threw a large pillow over it and pushed on by and ran out of the house. They came back and found it eating all the dog food in the kitchen and slobbering all over and a brave teenage boy clobbered it with a hockey stick and brained it. What a fiasco! Rabies shots for all involved of course.

Ron - honored by the new sig, but there is a typo in there (lke). Maybe you could fix it so Dr. Spec doesn't come off a grammatically challenged - I was typing fast!

If anyone wants to see a picture of that 71 pound beast, I'll get one. We have to size it down though for Club Polk; the original has a gigantic pixel density size suitable for publishing and takes forever to load.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread, Ron, and I'm sorry about your roof blown off and all the rain. Bad deal for sure. Good luck with it.

    Doc

Please load the pic... I have never seen a coyote before being a city boy and all and a comparison would be cool.

This rural America thing is pretty neat I must say.

Well, the rain is ending and the weather looks clear for the next 10 days. If the weather holds, that'll be perfect for our Mammoth trip next week.

...and yes, post that pic of Wile E. We used to hunt Coyote out in the desert, hard M-F'ers to try and catch, very scared of people.

I asked him to email me a smaller version of the pic. When I get it, I'll post it here. Might be a day or so.

It's great - he (Clint is his name) looks like Nanook all dressed up in his winter garb with parka style hood and his .243 rifle kneeling over this absolutely gargantuan coyote. This particular yote had a case of the mange and he sold it unskinned for only $20 - too bad.

I gotta get in on some golf talk here.

My brother lives in St. Catharines, seeing you're not too far nellis, have you played Hunters Pointe in Welland.

    http://www.hpgolf.ca

I played it a couple years ago, brand new course. It was a spectacular links style course.

dcarlson, I have not played Hunters Pointe, but I have heard wonderful things about it.
I much prefer a links style course that reminds of something you would see in Scotland. No tricks to those courses. If you can't hit in the fairway and keep it out of the wind, you might as well stay in bed. Love the 4 foot high rough and 10 ft deep pot bunkers, that's my kind of golf.
