Here ya go guys - the 71 pound monster yote in all his deceased glory.

FYI - most coyotes weight 40-50 pounds, so a 70 pounder is very rare. The largest ever taken in NY was actually in my town about 15 years ago, and weighed 83 pounds.

I made these pics small and easy to load, so there isn't much fine detail, but you get the idea.

Rifle is a vintage Winchester Model 70 with a custom trigger job, chambered in .243 Win and topped with a Leupold Vari-X III 4-16 AO and outfitted with a Harris folding bi-pod. Ammo is Winchester Supreme 100 grain pointed soft point. Rig is zero'd at 200 yards.

He also took a doe at 220 yards that same day on an out-of-season nuisance permit for that farm - they are beating up his apple orchards pretty badly and the NYSDEC offers these special permits to farmers that can prove crop damage outside of regular hunting season. Rifles are legal on nuisance permits only, and are otherwise illegal for deer in NY, except north of Oswego in the remote Adirondack mountains area.

Such is life in rural upstate NY for the handful of sportsman tough enough to brave the elements and take on Mother Nature in her own back yard. Hunting - the original extreme sport.

The one I saw was more silvery/white and did not have as much dark on his coat and no shades of brown. Perhaps it was not a coyote? But he was big like that... It looked like the dog on Dances with Wolves if you can recall that movie.

My best was a ground squirrel at 220 yards with my Winchester lever-action 30-30, iron sights. I've also chased many a jack rabbit's across the deserts of Barstow with my AK-47, now that is pure fun. Lead flying everywhere.

    Peace Out~:D

The "dog" on Dances With Wolves was a wolf man. Hence the name Dances With Wolves. It's not an unheard of thing to see a wolf chasing a domesticated animal. Especially dogs. It depends on your local too I guess but, it has happened.

Jstas, I have never actually seen a Wolf or a Coyote in person but this damn thing was Big. If it was a Wolf should I be even more concerned? Are there Woves in Central MO? Do they run in packs because there was no pack... I thought they were in like Yellowstone or more remote but damn!!!
