    After 30yrs I dunno if I could bring myself to quit.....talk about a addiction.

Quiting smoking at 32 was one of the hardest things I ever did, other than maybe busting my **** at 34 and getting a Computer Science degree in 3 1/2 years versus the usual 5-6 years. I knew I had finally kicked the addiction when I could go out drinking and not crave a cigarette. I have tried various drugs in my life, and none came anywhere near tobacco in terms of flat-out physical addiction. Now, turning 60 in a few months, I only drink a little wine during the week, and have some weed, and beer, on Friday night. But, hey, you only live once.

The physical addiction of tobacco is like 10% of the issue. The tough part is the other 90%; the habit. It's all in your mind.

You can compare the varying degrees of harm caused by pot and booze, but really. . . be serious. The argument itself is contextually irrelevant, because it assumes that laws and 'illegality' are written and enforced with the peoples best interest as their primary intent. This hasn't been true for a long time. Laws today are only to protect commerce, and to keep human capital operating and paying their taxes for the longest possible time.
If you think that the laws and statues are written to protect you, that the Legislature cares about your well being, or that studies are conducted to determine scientific fact, you may want widen your perspective just far enough to include an FDA measured dose of reality.

    I also dont smoke.

The driving off the road story was in response to another member saying that it doesn't impair one like booze does.

I was referring to post 66. I certainly know that marijuana does impair motor skills and if it is ever made legal, then it should be illegal to DUI. But thats with almost any drug.

In many states it already falls under the DUI laws. I know it does in PA & DE.

It just seems odd to me that pot is illegal and alcohol is not...when the effects of alcohol are much worse than weed. I dont know anyone is ever going to be able to answer that.

FWIW... tobacco was the LAST drug I tried in college. I think I can honestly say that if anything, all my "experiments" served as a "gateway" to nicotine.

btw I quit cold turkey without a craving (though it should be noted that I did it during a life changing event - i.e. my wedding). The "other" life changing event (re: my divorce) sent me back to Marlboro country. But that was more of an FU to the ex...

I don't care one way or another. I don't drink or use drugs.
It's obvious a lot of people are doing it. A lot of kids are doing it.
That hasn't changed much. Being unlawfull doesn't affect use
very much. There's pros and cons to legalizing it. I won't want to
legalize the hard drugs, but grass is at the low end of the trouble
scale. Meth and Cocaine cause most of the big trouble in our country
violence wise. Booze, of course, it our drug of choice.
Alcohol withdrawal can be fatal. It causes most of the drug related deaths,
either by overdose or by its use(accidents). And it's been banned
too. And funded the mafia. And now it's legal. Listen to a police scanner
for an evening, and most of the non-traffic calls are for booze related
reasons. But on the positive side, it's the only way some of you guys
    ever get laid!:D

OAKLAND (BCN) -- A 32-year-old man was arrested in Oakland for allegedly breaking both front legs of a 4-month-old Pomeranian puppy named Baby Chloe, an Oakland Animal Services director said today.

Kem Eap was arrested Feb. 20 on two felony counts of animal abuse after an anonymous caller told Oakland police that same morning about an injured puppy at a home in the 2000 block of Fifth Avenue, according to Oakland Animal Services Director Adam Parascandola.

Police and animal control officers arrived and found the dog hiding under a television set and unable to use her front legs because of an incident that allegedly occurred two days earlier.

Baby Chloe had extensive surgery Wednesday to repair her fractured legs, according to Parascandola, who said the surgery cost more than $4,000.

Parascandola said the dog "just started using the legs a little bit today and they expect that she'll make a full recovery."

The recovery period should take at least six weeks, during which the dog will receive physical therapy, according to Parascandola. She will be put up for adoption once she is healed, he said.

The nonprofit Friends of the Oakland Animal Shelter is collecting donations to pay for Baby Chloe's surgery and recovery care, as well as for the veterinary care of other injured shelter animals.

Donations can be sent to Friends of the Oakland Animal Shelter at PO Box 3132, Oakland, Calif., 94609, or online at http://oaklandanimalservices.org.
