That Jolida needs to be modded to bring out the best sound. But first, I agree with changing out the stock power cord. Also drop in some Groove Tubes 12AX7M (Mullard copies).

early on I was impressed with the Groove Tubes.. but not so much anymore.. there are better 12AX7 tubes out there.

Jesse hooked me up with a pair @ Polkfest last fall.. I really am enjoying these... still using them Jesse, you tube pusher. :D
    PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
Vancouver, Canada Sept 30th, 2012 - Madonna concert

I think you'll be very pleased. Just make sure they're the real deal.

OK i got the Ei 12AX7. now they only have about an hour of playing on them and my sovtek are well over 150++++

Right off the bat what I have noticed the vocals seem a bit more forward. The mids are slightly more floored also. The bass though is not as deep as the sovtek though. This might just be my imagination or it might need time to break in. ?

The highs are darn close.. too close to call. I will have to do more listening.

    That sounds about right...

I didn't like them. Which seems odd because everybody raves about them..

I found they had liquid like highs. That was about it... Nothing spectacular.

    YMMV

How can you tell if the Rca's are the real thing?

Ask RuSsMan if he has any still stashed, if not he can tell you how to tell if they are real or not. The Raytheons are just as good or maybe even the same tube. I prefered them over several esoteric NOS AX7s from Amperex, Tele, Mullard and others. I think I got a quad of NOS 60's RCA for around $110 and Raytheons for like $94/quad. The Teles at the time were up to $200/tube, depending on the vender. I believe the GEs are the same, too. Don't forget 7025s and 5751s. These were as close to the 6DJ8 Bugle Boy and PQ sound as I could get in 12A?7 tubes.

Yes big time. It cleaned up the mids actually more then putting the Sovtek's in. I honestly never had that much of a difference in the power cords with a cd player as I have with this one. I was shocked.

ActuallyF1, it was you that recommended I change the cord on a different board! I think the kimbers should do a better job. I was looking at a few other ones to try out but for the $ the Kimber seems to get better reviews. I am open to suggestions on a cord change over the NRG that is for sure.

Interesting choice of first post ... it's a bit off topic, though, since the thread is about tube choices (and subsequently, power cord improvements) for the JoLida CDP, but welcome to Club Polk!

I heard that unit and speaker setup in Indianapolis at a shop where I picked up my 2105 and SDA's Wonder place and great service.

It was a fantastic combo that is for sure and I enjoyed listening to the B&W McIntosh tube combo.

If you have other tubes in the chain (amp, pre) that could be why you are having an issue.
