can dvd-a play on a blu ray player.....or does it need a special player?.....complete rookie here.....thanks

Not unless it says specifically that it can play DVD-A. I'm going to guess not...there are only a few BR's out there that play SACD or DVD-A at this point...and they're fairly expensive.

Nope, unfortunately that player won't play either SACD or DVD-A. The Blu-spec CD's should be coming around soon though if you're looking for some higher quality music formats.The nirvana inducer-
