My good friend, against all the advice I gave him went to Best buy and let the salesman talk him into buying a Bose Life style HT system. It has those tiny cube speakers he thinks is great. Thats Ok for him, but then he starts comparing those little pieces of CRAP to my LSi15's. How could you even compare these two totally different speakers. He thinks they are just as good as my POLKs. I had to hold back from laughing in his face. And the sub, I think it has three 5 or 6 inch woofers ( if you can even call them woofers ) he thinks is the ultimate and says, puts out just as much if not better base then my Velodyne. He thinks because he spent $2000.00 dollars on it. It is gold, What a Misconception. SORRY to beat a dead horse but had to vent.

After listening to your 15's he went out and purchased Bose? WTF? Tell him he needs to get his hearing checked, also tell him he's a moron for blowing 2k on junk.;)
-
it happenes you cant win everyone over. His loss.

Happens to all of us. Had a friend ask for recommendations for a 2.1ch system for ~ $750. I recommended a pair of AV123 speakers + sub and HK rcvr. He got the rcvr, then bought a bose 2.1 system instead. Was not happy with the bass and felt it was the rcvrs fault, so he had me to come over and "fix it". Nothing could be done, so he bought another bose sub and he still isn't happy. Yet he is apparently telling people he purchased on MY recommendation.
Its the reason I no longer give HT advice (or money/budget advice either). People ask, don't follow your advice, then end up not happy.
Look on the bright side, at least your friend is happy with his system. In the end, even though you know he overpaid and could have done better, he is happy and that is what really matters. -
Has he actually heard your system? If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
-
clearly your friend is not into finding the truth, and if he is happy living in denial, well, more power to him.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.
-
So...he's actually heard your LSi15's, and compared them to his Bose, and came to the conclusion that the bose was better? You need to hit him...preferably with a baseball bat, or hard stick. He needs some sense knocked into him.
Oh well, as long as he's happy that he spent 2 grand to have some pieces of plastic with the word Bose on them in his house...whatever. Just enjoy your LSi's, and bash on his Bose system every time you see him...lolThe nirvana inducer-

There are just some people out there - poor wretches - who don't have the ears to discern between good sound and bad.
'Course, they'd say they're better off because, unlike the guy in this thread, most of them can get by w/& enjoy what we'd think are crumby systems & spend their coin on other things."Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then." Bob Seger -
This hobby is not for everyone. I have a good friend who can appreciate my system. He has a HT with Cerwin Vega's and some Polks for surrounds and a Denon receiver.
He has no desire to upgrade anything because he feels that while my system sounds clearer and more life-like..........he's happy with his and doesn't see the need to upgrade.
That's why I like coming here..............because for the most part we all are similar in our pursuits of things audio.

Oh yea, He has listened to my HT setup. He however did not feel that buying the components and speakers seperatly is worth the money. He said why should I spend what you did on your front speakers, when he could buy a whole setup that sounds just as good if not better, and he even gets a DVD player. I listened to his BLOSE and I could hear the front speakers sound like they are blown I can hear like a VVVVRRR FUM noise it is wierd. He says he can hear it but it is only when you turn it up loud. I was like DUDE come to my house I can turn mine way up all day long and you will not hear that noise.TV- 52 inch LCD SONY BRAVIA XBR6

Hmm, you can buy all your ingredients separately and fresh, prepared exactly to your liking or you can eat the same food in an already prepared frozen TV dinner (and it comes with dessert too!).
Hmm I can't imagine why there would be any difference. :rolleyes:____________________

Yea. I have found a few friends who "get it", but a majority of my friends don't understand what the hell I'm talking about if I start talking audio. I showed a friend from work my 2-channel system. He thought it sounded awesome and all he wondered was how I made a system that was so old (the Nak and the ADCOM) sound so good. So I tried to explain, and then..... his brain imploded. So we had another beer and moved on to other topics...with the music rockin of course.HT

I think we all know someone like this. My dad swears by his Bose and recommends it to his friends and sibblings. When we go over, I pray, it's not on or it's on very low. Him and my step mom like the sound of ours, but then my S-M says to my wife, "how can you allow all this stuff, it's so big and bulky"....Then my wife will say, that's why he has the TV room to do what he wants within reason. My poor dad, I know he would like better but BOSE = WAF sadly enough

Sounds like he has a superficial interest in sound (probably from your influence) but does not want to give up space. You cannot blame him...it takes years for a person to develop an "ear" to him his bose would sound just as good as a 20,000 set of speakers.
In this case you shouldve directed him to Orbaudio.com, small with better sound than Bose

yea i know, bose cubes and subs sound like crap to me, i had them before but not for long, it seems to me i read something on an audio forum once, let me think, oh yea it was this one, it went something like this, sound is subjective, what sounds good to you may not sound good to everyone else, the advice given was to get what sounds good to you. maybe it sounds good to him, and isnt that all that really matters? or does it go like this? get what sounds good to you, unless its bose and then your just an idiot, hey maybe his hearing is far better than ours and we are the ones that need to have our hearing checked. just kidding, we ALL cant be half deaf can we?

Bose doesn't allow their systems to be directly compared with any other brands for reasons that they themselves understand so well, so why don't you invite him over for a shootout against your LSi15s. The Lifestyle is easy to transport and would be easy to setup in your room.

I Remember going into an audio store in NYC in the late 80s thinking I was going to buy a pair of Bose 300 series bookshelves until I got to audition a wall of speakers.
At the time they had a pair of bookshelves that were manufactured for them by Energy and were about 80-100 dollars a pair less! Well, I had to listen to both several times because I couldn't 'believe' what I was hearing. The cheaper Energys were bashing the vaunted Bose bookshelf. That was a sound epiphany--where my ears were able to override the Bose Advertising hype. And I haven't looked back since.
I can't understand how the can charge what they do for those systems??

It sounds like your friend just doesn't want to admit that his system sucks. As others have said...he's probably just trying to follow your lead. You have an awesome system...so he wants to have an awesome system. He got the Bose, and since it cost so much, he refuses to accept that it's not better.
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Let him think that his Bose kicks ****. You know, and all of us here know that he's wrong though, and that your LSi's will run circles around his BLOSE.
BOSE=Box Of **** Equipment.
cnh-They can charge so much for them because of their name. They advertise like crazy, and the name Bose is synonymous with quality to someone who isn't in the know. People that aren't truly into the audio hobby, are out looking for a surround sound system, see the Bose, and just assume it's the best. "It has to be right? I've seen their ads in every magazine on the face of the earth...I see their ads on TV all the time. They must be good." Most of the time they don't even bother to compare them with other brands. They just buy the Bose, take it home, set it up, and assume they have the best sound system money can buy. It's because the name is so drilled into everyones head, that they think they're worth 2000+ dollars.
For the people that just want a name, as some kind of status symbol to flaunt at people...great...get the Bose. All of us here can stick with our Polks.;)The nirvana inducer-

I feel for you. It's not the price he paid for the Bose, or the fact that they are BOSE. It's the fact that in order to justify his purchase, he has to rag on your system, that's truly annoying. -
I set up my buddies place with a budget HT, actually sounds pretty good. Every time I go there they are using the built in t.v. speakers and have the HT shut off. This is fine for a hockey game or talk show but they even watch movies this way! I wish I didn't waste the time and effort setting it up. I explain to them that at the push of one button they can enjoy surround sound but they seem happy with crap sound. Some folks just cant tell the difference I guess. Sad.Brittle
