Underworld Rise of the Lycans

** No Spoiler **

Quite enjoyable. They do a good job with this prequal, tying everything in with the first two films. Rhona Mitra worked out as Sonja and the nice thing about it is that she doesn't have to directly compete with Kate Beckinsale since they're playing different characters unlike Maria Bello vs Rachel Weisz from the Mummy series (I pick Weisz because I loved the Weisz vs Patricia Velasquez fight in Mummy Returns). Indirectly, I think Mitra is a bit more physical than Beckinsale.

If you enjoyed the first two films you will probably enjoy this one.

Looking forward to the next one.

Went to see it at the theater yesterday. I was very pleased. They did set it up for a fourth to fill in the time between Lucian's rise and Celine's being turned. So hopefully more Kate in the next year or so. Rhona did a great job. And she's just a much more imposing physical specimen that our sweet petite Kate. Rhona looks a dirty girl(not in an Angelina Jolie **** way) , more than Kate does.

There is absolutely no substitute for Kate Beckinsale. She may not be the most physically imposing but she's got the coolness factor all locked up.

Ill check this one out tho. It does look interesting and I do love pretty much anything with vampires in it.

Kate's prettier and more feminine, imo. I just don't get all the Rhona haters, she's hot and did a great job as a vamp, too. It was a completely different character, hundreds of years before Celine was turned. I have a feeling, from the ending, that we'll get more Kate as long as this one does well enough to move on to the next in the series.

    Aaron,
If you go to see this and are disappointed, then you're not as much the Vampire fan I thought you were. It's as good as the second and close to the first, imho. I love GOOD Vampire flicks, there are some I just can't watch...tooo cheesy. This series is much more than just Vamps and Lycans, imo. There's a great storyline and fantastic characters.

I still want to see what goes on with Michael and Celine, now they are both hybrids, but I think there will be one staged between Lucian's rise and Celine's turning first.

I doubt Ill be disappointed. Even if its not as good as Underworld 1 and 2 Im sure judging by the previews that it will be a pretty good movie in its own right.

Could have lasted another hour for me...I don't mind 2.5-3 hr movies as long as they keep it moving along and how couldn't you keep an Underworld flick moving at pace. 1.5 hrs seemed short. I guess they could add another 30 minutes or so when they do the unrated/director's cut BluRay in a few months.

Loved it! It fits the series perfectly and was just as well done as the first two. I love vampires with guns but hey, for a prequel this one rocked!

I will own for sure, and the new girl was just fine to watch! Plus Kate was in it at the end ha ha

You'll be missing out on a good theater movie. I saw it at one of the newest Kerasotes 16 + IMAX theaters in Indy and was worth the matinee price. Me and my sons got in for $24.50 including Fandango's fee. I'll definitely purchase the Blu Ray to go with the set.

    Hey Guys,

I haven't seen the film yet. But concerning the absence of Kate B. and the introduction of Rhonda. Why do you think that ALL the trailers shoot her in such a way and with such quick cutting that you have to literally get a microscope out in order to realize that that's 'not' Kate.

Obviously that's done on purpose. Do you think the producers are worried that Kate fans might not buy tickets? I can't see any other good reason for this obvious blurrinng of Rhonda images?

    Anyone else?

I watched Doomsday TWICE for Rhona Mitra. If that doesn't speak volumes about how "talented" she is, I don't know what would. It was a really bad Mad Max film, but she somehow made it nearly watchable.

Rhona is also in Shooter, another of my favorite terrible movies. She actually didn't come off that sexy in it but decent nonetheless.

Can't want to see Lycans. Not sure I could get away with taking the GF to it, though. Maybe if I agree to see Marley and Me or something in exchange.
