The SVS SB13+ might surprise you when it comes to music. I put mine up against some stiff competition from REL, and the REL subs were better, but not enough to pay twice to thrice the price.

Yeah, I'm going to stick with the SVS for now. It weighs 155 lbs and once I get it set up I'm not going to want to repackage it. I did find this comparison that was interesting http://www.hometheaterspot.com/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/138686/

its a shootout of SVS, Velo, Paradigm, and JL.

    Thank's for everyones input!

Heya Dan. Been comparing the Velo DD18 with the JL F113 for a few weeks over at a buddies house (not that I can afford them). I like the JL overallfor music and HT but the Velo is one hell of a sub. Have you ever heard any of the JL Audio subs? I'm curious cause I know this is your field of interest and work. Look forward to your thoughts.

I never had the pleasure of hearing there home sub. I have heard so many good things about them. I wanna demo one myself.

I think the SVS subs are amazing for the price point to buy into them. With that said I bought two, and most SVS subs I know of dont just go boom boom. They are quality articulate subs, for the most point. SVS sub may not be for every room hence they take time to setup, EQ, etc. From what I read the Ultra is supposed to be very good with music, some users here will chime in.

On another note, I'd love to have dual JL Audio Gothams in my HT.

I mean PSW1000 (not DSW1000) in the previous post.

Yes, it's an upgrade from DSW600 to PB13 Ultra for sure. It's a definite improvement for music but more so for the HT use. But you are saying you want a sub for 100% music and most people who bought PB13 Ultra for subs have at least more about HT use than music.

Watts are watts and the efficiency of the driver plays an important role of how much power it needs to achieve the desire Sound Pressure Level. From what I heard, polk said their DSW series has an improved and more efficient driver so the power requirement is not much?

Well, PB13 Ultra is a definite improvement so don't regret it. I think you said you've the sub already delivered to you so just enjoy it. I am sure you'll love yours. :)

    I wasn't too impressed with either psw1000 or dsw600

I've never heard either...but that seems to be the general consensus. From what I've gathered, the only really good Polk subs are the MicroPro's.

I assume (a guy one told me not to use that word "**** u me" but let me try this anyway) you spent more time with HT than listening music? If so, polk psw1000 may not be for you. I have nothing to un-impress about the psw1000 when I've already had 2 x PB13 Ultra and 2 x ED A7s-450s. But I got 4 more of PSW1000 for music anyway. It's not because PB13 Ultra is not musical or A7s is not musical. I think I found PSW1000 blends in better for the LSi speakers I use. I can't comment on the DSW600 because I did't have a chance to audition one.

I heard DSWMicro pro is awesome for both music and HT use but for the price of it, there are better performers. I paid more than what NewEgg is unloading currently but it was quite a while ago when I got mine. So, I can't complain but at the current price, I would consider getting a few more if I have a need for one. But 4 is more than enough and there are other great subs to try.

Just as long as your happy with your subs that's all the matters.

    My preference

    HT use - all 8 subs firing (2 x PB13 Ultra + 2 x A7s-450 + 2 x PSW1000 hooked up to the SMS-1 + 2 x PSW1000 paired with mains) shook the house and can kick my **** out of the couch if I turn up the volume.

2 channel Music - 2 x PSW1000 paired with mains (mains are 2 x LSI25 and 2 x RTi12s so they are not shy of bass and hooked up to two elite M91 amps)

If I use all 8 subs for 2 channel music, too much bass is undesirable.

Multi Channel Music such as SACD and DVD Audio - I use all 8 subs for concerts music Videos and turn down the subs volume on the SMS-1.

But yeah, I am quite happy with what I have so far. I'll be adding 2 more DIY subs and an IB array later on.

Which ones are mix matched? The Rti12 and the LSi25 for the mains? or the subs?

I would know if they sounds bad together. For the vocals, I used LSi25 only by switching off one amp. But otherwise, they plays along fine for most music.

Wow...you have lot of stuff crammed in there. Is it safe to say that your system has a little bit of "punch" in the low end?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say yes...lol

How do ya like those PB13's? I've been looking at them lately...looks like a nasty sub. I've never heard one in person though.

edit:nvm Just read back and saw your review of it.

Dunno how a SVS sounds but I haven't had a problem with my Velo digg'in deep.
Nobody round here sells SVS and I refuse to buy anything I haven't heard.
Velodyne I have heard a few diff times and was good nuff for me.

I have read this comparison elsewhere on the web and most PPL recommended the Velo over the SVS for music.
But like was said it's a matter of prefference.....I'm not sorry with the route I went.
