Late middle aged moment...

I've been playing with the Luxman TP-114 pre/tuner married to my Luxman M-117 for about a month now. It's got amazing synergy, a very lush midrange and incredibly sweet, detailed treble response. However, my bass disappeared. It was there, but the punch and slam were gone. I put the Carver in it's place and the bass got better, but the midrange and treble while good, weren't in the same class. After all the 2 Luxman units were meant to be paired up. I just decided to live with it.

I'd been using my Sony BD S300 as the player, as I now prefer it to the Oppo.

Last night, I wanted to listen to some DVD A and SACD in 2 channel, so I used the Oppo as the source. Wow, what a huge difference. Bass was slammy wammy, incredible balance and listening to 2 channel at 192/24 gave me some imaging lock, I'd never heard before on this rig. I was playing through some settings and noted that I had my fronts set to Large in the players setup menu. This got me thinking and I recalled that I had set the Sony's BM for my fronts to run Small.

Doh!!!

Rehooked up the Sony, changed it to Large, put in Sarah MacGlachlan's Solace, track 2, (very cooked on the low end), wham, bass is back and it's all good.

Sometimes I wonder what the f*ck I'm doing. I can't remember to check the obvious stuff.

Another Senior moment, but I'm just not quite ready to take on that label...so late middle aged will have to do.

Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
PB13Ultra RO
BW Silvers
Oppo BDP-83SE

Senior???? Look...I just turned 55 last week and I'm thinking it's time to go through my middle age crisis. I'm working on several decadent and totally irresponsible ideas that I can "blame" on said "crisis" that would normally not be tolerated. ;)

That is hilarious Ron. Oh my God. ;):D
And I thought I did crazier things when I was younger. Only thing is that I have just decreased the risk factor and increased the budget in everything I do now. I just blame it on old age.

51 here and I have plenty of moments like this. I've taken to writing notes to myself and the dining room table looks like one of those post it notes commercials. When I have a massive brain **** or I'm wandering around the house with a blank look on my face either my wife or the kids tell me to check the dining room.

Glad to see I am not the only one having middle aged moments (46). I will be getting a new audio rack soon requiring me to unhook and rehook everything up. Invariably in these situations I overlook obvious settings (like turning the amp on - this really happened once) adding hours to the process.

I went to the eye doctor last Friday. I never ever had to wear glasses for anything until about 7 years ago when I discovered I needed reading glasses. NOW he tells me I might want to consider getting a little something for distance...**** bi-focals! That means I would have to wear them all the time. :( I'm going down kicking and screaming. I told him I would get the prescription like he recommended but I was taking them off when I wasn't reading...cause I don't need them. I think his machine was messed up and just wasn't working properly.

    WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

His "machine" is just fine. Guess what isn't fine? Your  !!

Bifocals doesn't mean you have to wear them all the time. But it means you can see near and far when you do have them on, and if you need a little help for distance sometimes you have it there to use.

Getting older sucks, but what is the alternative?

LOL!:D No Shackster, it's YOUR eyes that are out of wack. And there is NO avoiding it.

They now make multifocals that are for near, computer, & distance. Yes you wear them all the time, but at least you will be able to see clearly.

The good news is that you are lucky your eyes started changing so late. And if you are lucky they will settle down sometime in the next 3 years or so, and should stay pretty stable for the rest of your life.

My eyes started changing on me around 36 & the doctor told me then it would take about 10 years to stabilize. HE WAS RIGHT ON THE MONEY!!! And I was OUT of money every 2 years for the next 10 years!!!

It hurts like hell having to shell out 500-1000.00 dollars for glasses every 2 years!

So as my doctor told me 12 years ago...."Welcome to middle age!"

Thanks Ben,I wasn't trying to derail Ron's thread...I'm in the same boat as everyone else here that is in the PRIME of their life.

I wear bi-focals,I have hearing aids, which are a pain when you're trying to listen to some tunes.

I write myself lists of things that I need to pick up from the store, and then forget my list...or forget where I left it.

    What a minute...where did I put that remote???:D
