I have decided that my sub is dead and I was wondering what all I have to do to send it to polk for repair. Can I just send it back without telling them the story or should I call them? I'd love to get this taken care of as fast as possible cause I miss the sound it made. It is not under warranty anymore so I assume it may be exspensive:(

Thanks:)

It depends on what you call expensive. They will probably try to figure out what the problem is, and walk you through some tests, so you may end up sending back only the woofer, or only the amplifier, rather than the entire unit. They may even be able to fix it and just send it back to you. Even a replacement, new part, may not be all that prohibitive compared to the cost of a new subwoofer. You won't know until you figure out, with or without their help, what part of the subwoofer is not working.

when I watch tv, music, or games there is no sound. the green light doesn't come in so there isn't any signal coming from the receiver. i hooked it up to my cuzzin's bfriend's receiver and the same thing happened so it is gotta be deadski-ski-ski.

I that case, assuming the woofer is still in good condition, they may ask you to send in just the amplifier to see what's going on with it ... Contact them and see what they say. You can even ask how much it would cost to get a new amplifier if it turns out that it is completely toast (and what the likelihood of that being true would be, in their opinion, given the symptoms you describe and your usage habits ...) ... Or ... McLoki could be right! (He often is, ya know!).

I guess we might as well try to do this right...

    What model sub?
How is it connected to your system?
How is it currently set to turn on (signal detect, on or off)?
When did it stop working (has it ever worked)?

When it does work - do you like it? (i.e. - don't spend more money to get something working that you think blows on its best day)

Start there and I am sure more will come to me...

Set it to 'On' and try again to be sure that's not part of the problem.

I swore I replied to this last night - sorry about that....

If you try something else plugged into that same outlet - will it (the something else) turn on?

Check your power cords both at the sub and the wall.

Set sub to on (not auto detect)- any sound (or lights)?

if the sub has speaker level inputs - try those and see if they work.

Anything you are not telling us? (like last time it worked was during a big party and it took forever to get the beer stains out of the carpet under the sub......:p)

I mean the switch that selects auto on or always on. (if it has one of course)

yes. I had the sub plugged into a surge protector which also has the tv, receiver, modem, router, and cable box for as long as I've had the sub (bout 7 yrs) and had no problems.

Check your power cords both at the sub and the wall. they are fine

Set sub to on (not auto detect)- any sound (or lights)?
the sub has a auto mute circuit so says the manual so no switches(fo da ****). you plug in the sub and it comes on when it detects the signal.

if the sub has speaker level inputs - try those and see if they work. my pioneer doesn't have speaker outputs so that is impossible.

Anything you are not telling us? (like last time it worked was during a big party and it took forever to get the beer stains out of the carpet under the sub......

nope. i don't really know when it stopped working but it doesn't work. I don't know anyone with a sub to test with my receiver with either.

    He means this:

    1) Check for RCA L/R inputs on the sub. They are probably coloured red and white, and look like standard RCA input jacks.

    2) Turn the subwoofer volume knob all the way down to zero, or whatever the lowest setting is.

    3) Find a DVD player or CD player, and connect the L/R audio outputs directly to the subwoofer L/R in, without going through the receiver at all.

    4) Put a CD (not a DVD) in the player and start it playing. Gently turn the volume up by small amounts, and see if there is any sound coming out ... what happens?

I did this and it sounded like a muffled **** coming out. The **** sound was very low and no matter the volume it didn't get any louder.

Thanks for all of the help:D
