You guys remind me of one night down in SC. I was sitting at a red light when two ricers pull up beside me, one in the fast lane and one in the middle lane. I'm in the slow lane just chillin'. Well, I noticed these two cars are revving their engines and pulling inch by inch up to the line at the start of the intersection. These were both cars with stickers and wings that rose above the height of the roof, and we all know how that increases horsepower.
So, as I'm sitting there at the intersection for about two minutes I notice that they both now have their windows down and are yelling at each other, pointing down the road as if they were going to race. I figured what the hell? They had not noticed me whatsoever sitting next to them at the intersection, so I would join in the fun.
We all hit the gas when the light turned red and I had already scoped out the area for cops, so it was pedal to the medal. At the next light about a 1/2 mile down the road, I was completely stopped and waiting when they both pulled up. The look on both of their faces was absolutely priceless.
As mentioned before..........I drive a truck.
I love doing that myself, that's the best.

Some of the guys on my Titan forum are doing mid 12 second runs with their 2 wheel drive Titans ....when I leave my truck as I drive it every day....with the big **** 35's on....and its a 4x4 too....I still do a respectable 14 second quarter mile ...which a lot of them can't do.

Yea...and while you fondle the shifter in your POS Neon, the guy in the S2000 is giving some hot chick a ride.
It can't even be described how much the S2K outclasses that car.
There's no doubt about it, the SRT-4 HUMILIATES the S2000 from a price/performance perspective.
A 2004 SRT-4 pumps out 230hp and 250lb-ft, achieved 0-60 in 5.3 seconds, and ran the 1/4 in 13.9 at 103 (according to C&D). It has a roadholding of 0.86g, and came in with a base price of $20,995.
A 2004 S2000 produces 240hp and 161lb-ft, reached the 60mph mark from a standstill in 5.5 seconds and reached the 1/4 in 14 seconds (also according to C&D). And has a roadholding of 0.88g. For a base price of $33,460.
So, you can get a S2000 that basically has the same performance numbers as an SRT4 for almost $13,000 more?? (Though the S2000 MIGHT handle better - I admit the SRT4 LOOKS like it'd do horrid in the handling department, but I've heard accounts of otherwise, and have read of it doing really well in autocross. However, I'll concede this point to you anyways.)
Who said anything about class? They were only talking about performance, straight-line performance at that. Then you come in here bashing the guy talking about class.

Yeah all this smack talk is dumb. I've had encounters with both an SRT4 and an S2000 in my lowly 88 Tbird with 150,000 miles. Upgrades consist of mostly stock Mustang stuff, like the H/C/I. At the time I raced the S2000, I only had about $400 worth of upgrades done (stock Mustang H/C/I only), added to the $1500 paid for the car, so that's under $2000 and I was door to door with him during the 15-65mph run. More recently, I raced a kid in an SRT4 (that had a loud BOV) and ran him from 20-80mph and he couldn't even pull up to my rear bumper. I did have a few more mods than when I raced the S2000 though (5 speed manual and 3.27 gears). I also raced against what appeared to be a motor-swapped Civic hatch (audiobliss witnessed this one) and I got off to a slow launch so he pulled away, but I was able to gain a lotta ground back on the top end. There is only 1 Civic that has ever beat my car among the 10-15 I've raced at this point; I got him off the line, then at around 75mph he went strolling by. But once I get my new 306 done, it'll be game over .
Old pic (how the car was when I raced these guys):
New pic from about 2 weeks ago:
Given the choice of the cars being mentioned though, I'd take the SRT4 every day of the week. S2000s have no torque and Civics are...well...Civics. -

My point is....people come in here talking smack about how an "American" car can, as you put it, "humiliate" a "foreign" car. When in reality these two cars shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath. So what...The Neon puts up slightly better numbers for less money. News flash! You get what you pay for. When you factor in the build quality, interior materials, convertible top, and Honda reliability, the Dodge can't hold a candle to the Honda. I can also say from experience that the S2K is a ridiculously better drive than the Neon. The Neon is just another pathetic, "American", overpowered, front drive, rattle trap.
Fine. If your only desire is to go fast in a straight line for as little money as possible, then the Neon might warrant a glance. But to try to suggest the Neon is just flat-out a better car based on acceleration/price ratio, or that it's some great piece of American engineering, is just retarded.

I'll definitely admit with no hesitation that the S2000 is a nicer car. I wouldn't mind owning one (though it still doesn't make my top 20 list). I just didn't think anybody was dissing it or saying the SRT4 was better than the S2000. Perhaps I overreacted a bit, in which case I apologize, but the way I saw it it was merely stated that the SRT4 would beat the S2000 in a straight line, which is very plausible.
I know this is totally unrelated to the specific discussion of "SRT-4 vs S2000", but your comment about "American cars humiliating foreign cars" reminded me of it. I just finished watching some youtube videos of the new CTS-v and ZR1, as well as of the current Z06. I don't understand how people can blatantly discredit American vehicles when the CTS-v offers an extremely comfortable luxury ride with a great interior and accompanying amenities while being the FASTEST rear wheel drive four-door sedan around the Nurburgring. All the class you could want, 556hp, 551lb-ft, 0-60 in 3.9 seconds, 6-speed manual (auto available). Or the ZR1 which still whoops the GT-R (destroys it? No; it is a close comparison) as well as embarrassing or at least hanging with a lot of WAY more expensive exotic vehicles.
American vehicles aren't crap. They aren't unreliable. They aren't rattle traps.

I also prefer American cars
Since there has been some talk about the Neon, I can attest for the reliability of my Neon. I had one during college and I really beat the crap out of that thing. I was very hard on my cars back then and my Neon took it like a champ. Was actually a fun car to drive
Anyways, as for reliability, there are no guarantees with any car; I've seen horror shows with both American and foreign cars regardless of price/class.Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

I do however mostly agree with you comments about the Z06, ZR1, and CTS-V. Those are the only 3 American cars that I would ever consider personally owning. I do feel that their overall build quality (mostly interior) is still a little sub-par, but is vastly better than the past.
But I won't lie. If given the option to drive away with either a ZR1 or a Ferrari F430 I wouldn't even give the Vette a second glance. Numbers only go so far. There is just no comparison to the look and feel of a red Italian.;)HT

I'll tell you why I would take the vette....EVERYWHERE you drive that ferrari you are going to attract unwanted attention from vandals/theives/cops...etc. You would have to only drive the thing places where you could keep it in your line of sight if you valued it at all. Try driving it to a concert or ball game and leaving it alone like that for any length of time ...you can do that with the vette .
Where as with the vette....a C6 is a C6.....sure enthusiasts know the difference right away and go ohh ahh...but your average vandal who is jealous of what you have wouldnt know a base C6 from a ZR1.....hundreds of C6's drive by and nobody even takes a second glance ( Well, here in CA they are extremely common and I have yet to see someone make an effort to look at one )
Both one of my cousins and a good friend of mine own Z06's...one's even yellow  ....we have gone to Reno....concerts...etc...no extra attention.
You let even an older ferrari...say even as old as a 308gtsi or a testarossa...drive by on the freeway and everybody all of a sudden slows down or speeds up to gawk at the thing....and parking lots...forget it...like hooters girls were giving free flashes or something.
So the ferrari would be awesome if it wasnt going to be the daily driver.....but I would take the vette and drive the hell out of it everywhere. The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
If all that worries you (and you had a 430), why not have a daily driver then? Neither of them is something I would consider a daily driver quality so it would be almost a must anyway.

My cousin uses his as a daily driver, but my buddy has a Toyota truck and just drives the vette on weekends. I think I would split it 50/50...there would be no way in hell I could let the vette sit in the garage all week. The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -

None of this is really relevant though. I don't agree with the reasoning why you would take a Vette over F430 but lets leave it at that.
I have a weekend ride and a daily driver, and many people have said they would drive my weekend ride everywhere they could if they had it. In all honesty they wouldn't and if you had a Vette and a nice daily driver, I am sure you would do majority of the casual driving with the daily driver. (it all depends on how nice of a daily it is ) -

What do you mean relevant ? I didnt ask you to agree with my reasoning....my first post on the subject was just a statement of what I would do....I would pick the vette for the reasons stated.
And how could you be sure I would drive a daily driver over the vette I had in the garage ??? You know nothing about me.....dont get me wrong...I am not just jumping on you for the hell of it...its just you are making statements that you have nothing to base them on.
Here is as an actual example ....its raining .... I have a truck in the driveway with an enclosed cab...heater...etc.....and instead I take the Yamaha R1 in the garage to work instead just because I enjoy riding it so much...I never let a little rain slow me down...after all its CA and warm here when it rains.
Actually I would take the ferrari...sell it and buy a vette and quite a few more toysThe first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
I see posts of the z06, the zr1, and what not, Uh.. what about the vette grand sport? i liked that one a lot as well. Reading through the posts as fast as I could, so I could post, I noticed something about who' care is faster then who's. The truth is, it comes down to how much do you want to spend.... That is all there is to it. Take the short cut, shave off weight, add nos to it, bam.. you got yourself a hella quick car, but the reliability just went out the door. For a daily driver, that still screams fast, and muscular, Vettes and Mustangs. I did mention previously that I owned several Mustangs, I love em, but I added to much and killed it. The new vette is a work of art. Lets not get into the specialty vettes and mustangs, anyone know Callaway or Saleen/Roush? And yes yes, imports could mention the cold air intakes and the blah blah blah, iceman intake and the steve millen tuners... blah blah blah. Been there done it.
Argument of speed will go on forever among american and imports. fuel, reliability, etc etc etc..... Its just too bad the Big 3, took too too long to adjust. If efficiency was truly a measure and a factor of how I live, ....... Get a bike... Faster then cars, more efficient, gas great.. .blah blah blah... except that damn, Bugatti!!! smoking a 1000 cc bike.. hahahaha -

I speak from my own experience. If yours differs from mine, it's all good but if you haven't experienced it yet that is the most likely scenario. "I am sure" was not meant to be taken literally. Have you ever owned something similar to the Vette?
Driving a high performance car to work and back every day, well, I'd rather put the miles on it on a road course and take something more comfortable to work. No matter how much fun the car is to drive. I also have a bike and I rather drive it on twisty back roads than take it to highway. Luckily I have a nice road that I can take to work if I want to.
