I messaged Danny at GR Research about the drivers, this is what he said.

"I worked with the driver manufacturer for over 6 months on the design of the new drivers. The are top notch in every way. The woofers even use Copper shorting rings, etc.

There is no dust cap. The woofers use a solid phase plug just like the Seas Excel drivers. In fact the whole motor structure is just like the Excel series.

The tweeter is a top notch dome, vented center pole piece with damping, low Fs, low distortion, etc.

All drivers are top of the line."

Oh...my God! These speakers are expensive and better be top notch! In this price range I saw on Tyler Website, I hope they will match the level of the top of the line Focals or B&W Diamond series speakers.

In the price range its more so preference --

There is a gentleman Treitz who owns a Focal speaker and the Taylo 7u and prefers them for different things, but I am thinking he considered the 7u to be a better speaker ---

Now Tyler against B&W, I would say there is no contest... the Tylers have life.. where as B&W not so much ;) but IMO of course

But these new speakers are definitely a mystery since they are using custom made drivers.... hence why I messaged the designer of the drivers.

Thanks! For speakers to be life like, I can't imagine how good they are. I really need to listen to the Linbrook Super Towers. ;) Even though GR Research offers the good DIY speakers kit at a very reasonable price, Danny design for the Tyler need to be damned good using custom drivers to be very pricey.

Any idea of how it will stack against Polk Lsi25s? Would it be like night and day difference?

If I am reading you correctly megasat16, you are asking us how a new speaker that nobody has heard [yet] stacks up with a speaker many have heard. How are we supposed to answer that?

George did say that they would be "different". I concur.

Come on treitz . . . everyone knows performance is directly related to the color and quality of the gear's trims. Just ask EarlyB, that guy flips amplifier faceplates all the time to tweak his music to his liking. I can only imagine the pink tweeter enclosure will result in a very romantic presentation.

Different in a good way or a bad way? Any more descriptive word to throw away my LSi and grab a few of the Tylers? :p

Unfortunately, Tyler is in KY and is a little far to drive down to have audition their speakers. I checked their in home demo list and can't find anyone who owns the Linkbrook Super Towers nearby. So, the other option is to ask around who might owned or listened to both. And it's the most economical way of auditioning speakers.

I know the answer is seriously complicated to have in one word - "different" coz all are different as far as I could tell (from Wilson to B&W to McIntosh to Focal to Dynaudio to Aerial to Linn to Martin Logans to my favourite Polk :D)

Sorry I got a little carried away and the list gets too long! I won't do it again. :o

I can tell you how I think the 7u's compare to the LSI 15's,,,, the bass is tighter and more controlled on the tylers than my 15's were, both had good soundstages,,they 15's required more power than the tylers,, both are good speakers,, I preferred, and still have the Tyler 7U's. There you go,, short ,precise, and honest,,IMHO. Rock on :)

Cool, Straight and Rock on! I am not going to throw away the Lsi for now. :)

I have a pair of Lsi25s and Lsi15s. I noticed the 15s being more power hungry than the 25s because of the 8" subs. I have good power amps (H/K citation 7.1 450W @ 4 ohms) to feed the 15s but I really think both 25s and 15s need external subs for a really good tight mid-bass. PSW1000 sealed is the way to fill in the mid bass on these babies. :D

In case someone is keeping score, I like the pinkness of the tweeter. Reminds me of music "blossoming" from the driver. It also reminds me something else, but I dare not say it out loud.

BTW -- the silver faceplates sound better, but the black ones look better, so they stay. This time it's form over function.;)

Ty is running a pretty big discount on his older models right now --

Those 7us for the money are hard to beat for sure...

Just so everyone knows -- lol

The tweeter baffle is not pink. It is copper, it actually matches the phase plugs. The speakers headed my way in a month or so will be copper baffles and I am expecting to like them... :)

Yeah, I, too, would like to know what changes were made to the crossover and how they sound compared to their replacements. The good thing is -- Danny at GR Research was involved in the design. (George -- you beat me by one minute!)

Also, Ty said the new midwoofers uses about half the crossover components of the seas --

He also said due to the time alignment of the bass drivers (bigger models) the crossover components were reduced by half as well..

So all of this should result in cleaner better sound due to a shorter signal path... The crossovers themselves are obviously completely different to match them to the new drivers...

So basically, Ty is probably saving money on parts while maintaining the same level of high quality. Sounds like a good business move.

Exactly -- and at the same time, you are putting less crap between the drivers and the amps -- which should result in better sound...

I really do not know what to expect ---

Something to keep in mind when we are talking about Ty here ---

The Linbrook/Taylo/Woodmeres are designed by Madisound - thats enclosures and crossovers. Ty then further tweaked them.

The fact those speakers kick as much **** as they do having that kind of history is amazing. The 7u is outstanding. But the reason that is possible is Ty does not skimp anywhere - top notch drivers, crossover parts, enclosures, everything.

Ok, take that fact and now throw in a highly qualified, well known speaker designer. These drivers Ty is using cost just as much as the excel woofs and scanspeak/seas tweets --- so the drivers are not skimped on at all from what I have been told...

And the fact some serious engineering went into the enclosures that was not there before. The angled sides to reduce cabinet resonance -- high flow ports... the heavy damping on the inner walls -- the design of the cabinet on the bigger models are very very different as well...

So I dont know what to expect -- and it will take quite a speaker to make me give up my 7u - but from what Ty and Danny have both told me, they designed a speaker that certainly can.

Yeah -- Im thinking I may like it - but I am banking on the fact it will look more like the phase plugs than the pictures let on. But if they do not - I'm sure Ty wouldnt mind letting me get my hands on a black pair of tweets ;)
