What's with the funky color of the drivers?

I was never a huge fan of their looks, and now I probably never will be either.

According to Ty,, the drivers are custom made and the crossovers are by Danny Ritchie.
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

I like the bookshelves and stands in the first pic, and I love the big, tall one, but in a darker finish. The center channel looks fukked up.

Yeah, I, too, would like to know what changes were made to the crossover and how they sound compared to their replacements. The good thing is -- Danny at GR Research was involved in the design. (George -- you beat me by one minute!)

I don't like the look of the drivers, but I could live with that, though I don't think I could live with the cabinets with those (plastic?) tops. I prefer the original cabinets.

They look a lot like the css wr125's. Which I think is a good looking driver with the copper phase plug.

I'd take the Linbrook signature system over those any day.

These speakers will be my next ones.

With Obama as our new President, I hope he places a "fugly" tax on these speakers so they become too expensive for Tyler Acoustics to produce.

That speaker with the grill on hiding that pimple tweeter is bad **** looking...

I'd consider owning that --- definitely would drive to Kentucky before I bought it

    Maybe

But thankfully my Taylo 7u kicks Decepticon ****... ;)

Ive yet to hear a speaker in the price class I'd replace them with...

If you have the gear and the room for them - they rock...

I still have their sound from Ted's in my head and I can't wait to get them in a bigger room..

The new drivers are special made by GR Research, as is the crossover design

I spent probally 2 hours between the phone and email talking to Ty today...

We worked out me being able to demo the D2 vs. my 7u...

So, I should see that come through the door in the next 2 months or so...

    I'm excited to see it.

Ty is an interesting guy, and is very enthusiastic about his new line up.

Very nice, Trey. Those D2's are gonna smoke your 7U's :).

What did Ty say about D series that makes him so enthusiastic about them? How are they supposed to be "better than" the previous models?

Well he is mostly enthusiastic because he had the old line up for 10 years virtually unchanged... lol

He said the difference between the D3 and the 7u would be mostly preference...

The D2 would have better bass, better mids and staging..

But he is very excited to have his own drivers now and he really* likes the new enclosures...

And if it is any correlation --

Ty has already sold all of his D models he has so far. Alot of them sold at RMAF.

    Also --

The D1 and D2 have a seperate enclosure for the midbasses. And the rest of the enclosure is for the bass drivers.

Bass drivers are 7", mid drivers are 6"

And of course crossovers are point to point

    WBT platinum on the post

Alpha Core and Hovland crossover components

This is all I know right now...

Also, the midbass and bass drivers are paper cone...

Tweeter is a silk soft dome I believe

    Pink?..................

    Um....................

Pink Tweeter? This is one offering from Ty that I would order the grills for. Ukin' Fugly! Trey, LMK when/where and all that jazz you are going to do the audition please. If I can, I'd like to make it there as well.

Sounds like a good package, but that doesn't fix the appearance.

The audition is going to be at my house in my room, my gear...

    So Im stoked! :)

I dont think the tweeeter is pink, it looks most likely to be brass colored...

    One last update --

Ty said he would entertain having the tweeter baffles done in black in the future... particularly if enough people asked for them. But for now he has committed to the current run of drivers and has to go through those... lol

Im sure Ty could paint it black or put it in a black oak with black caps and base -- and a black tweeter baffle

Give him a call or email him
