I just used 2X between joists then lined box with MDF using glue screws and caulk filled with speaker batting, Some of the inwalls I mounted in the existing 2x4 construction right up against existing insulation. Both of those installations sound superior to the one speaker thats still exposed to the back because I'm currently remodeling the room on the other side. Any and every improvement you make regarding enclosure will improve sound quality. If you spend the money on LC series don't skimp out on your enclosure! It won't be the speakers fault your disappointed.

I have combo of in-wall and in-ceiling all TC Series and I love it. Its difficult comparing to others because many people on this site have some fantastic systems. ...
Wow Gary! Great post, thanks! I wish people would not feel intimidated by the more fancy systems here, because it really is a hobby for everyone. We all started somewhere and most of us have our budget limits (and my system is not all that fancy, frankly).

I've nothing serious against rectangles in the ceiling, but can you still direct the tweeters? My room is not that large, this is SoCal after all. I'll measure it tomorrow and post back, but probably in the region of 15x18, with standard ceiling height.

Yes you can aim tweeter on the in walls. Go to local store and listen for yourself. My ears time after time felt the round in-ceiling models sounded brighter and lacked the mids the in-wall models did. Maybe its the tweeter on top like car speaker design? Maybe it was just my ears?

Interesting. The room dimensions are as previously stated, so not very large. There is a glass door all accross one wall though, which may have an effect on the sound.

I wouldn't like it if they were too bright, it tends to be tiresome listening after a while IMO, but I do like detailed rather than muddy. When you bought the wall speakers, did the store mention any issues with placing wall speakers on a ceiling? Maybe I should ask c/s if this can cause problems with accuracy or something. I actually thought the "car speaker" design was supposed to be a benefit, not a drawback ...

I'm not sure what local store would have them available to listen to, so I'll have to hunt one down.

    RT1,

Can you tell us more about your enclosures? Where they already made or did you make them? If already made post link, if you made them post size.

    Thanks

    Steve

The Lci-RTS line I have come with the enclosures already attached, Lci80fx I bought the Polk made ones, for the Lci-RTS you simply cut the hole out and install, this really works well. For other lines Polk has built a box with baffles inside to the exact cubic amount of air for the speaker to function optimally.

If no enclosure is made for your speaker you can call Polk and they will help give you an idea of how much air the enclosure needs to have inside.

You can find this information in the product section of the website under in-walls/in-ceiling.

As far as putting the in-walls in ceiling, remember, a wall is just a ceiling stood on edge.

I thought there might be some directional issues involved ... Maybe not? If so, that might make things easier in terms of available choices.

Do these things come up much on the Polk eBay store? Any ideas about good pricing for this gear?

I don't think I've ever seen an in-wall on the polk ebay store.

The tweeter is aimable but you will not get the offset if you use the inwalls, lets face it the speaker is made to go into a wall not a ceiling, personally I would recommend the in-ceiling models if that is where they are going.

All RTS series in walls come with the enclosures.
