Anybody know what ACORN is?

Well, you should.

ACORN -- Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now

These guys are extremely left leaning and they use excessively aggressive tactics approaching racketeering to get voters registered. I've seen them all over Philly and they keep accosting me on my way in to work, at lunch, on my way to another building, on my way home, whenever. They want me to register to vote. Never mind the deadline was October 6th, 4 days ago, they are still doing it. They don't seem to care that I'm already registered and I have been registered for something like 13-14 years.

I wanted to know who these assmonkeys were so I did some research and what do you know, look what turned up!

http://www.nypost.com/seven/10102008/news/politics/1_voter__72_registrations_132965.htm

Yeah, if you meet any of these tools, tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine and then find a police officer.

BTW, I'm not trying to put a political post up here. I just posting about something that I think totally sucks and needs attention so a stop can be put to it. I'm honestly appalled and angered that these yahoos are gonna dilute the power my vote and yours has by making up these "Imaginary Americans". If things go political, I can't stop them but there is really no disagreement here. No side should support this in any way, shape or form.

    unless I am mistaken,

I believe the major reason for this is the simple fact that ACORN pays these people you see in the street "per registration"

it is, simply, a system set up that blatantly rewards fraud.

now which candidate is closly related to ACORN? oooops, no politics. nevermind :p

The funny thing about that is how readily people will blame the OTHER side for all voter fraud, and yet the most blatant and obvious fraud is coming straight from these guys, and you never hear a thing about it.

They registered the Dallas Cowboys starting line-up (no BS) in Nevada. The Feds raided them and have the forms in hand. Ohio is foobar at this point.

With the new electronic voting system you can bet it is fixed and the winner has already been chosen. We just wont find out till they are ready to tell us who they chose.

My understanding is that ACORN will be a major recipient from any profits made from the 7 Billion dollar bailout sales. This porkbarrel amounts to 20% of all government profits must go to groups like them.

I am never surprised at how deep the corruption is and how much money is involved in our government's legal kickbacks attached to what could be good legislation. If we only truly knew the extent........

From the Huffington Post, that bastion of unbiased news and information. :)

So are you just afraid of technology, or a loony toon? How does the fact that the voting is electronic vs a piece of paper affect anything? Stuffing a ballot box is just as easy or difficult as hacking into an electronic machine. If you think someone has the means and willingness to do either, they could do both.

If people get paid to register new voters, some are probably going to abuse the system ... to get paid, not necessarily to try and influence the result of an election. Getting people registered is one thing, they'll need some form of I.D. to actually vote when the day comes. False registrations is not equivalent to fraudulent votes. It shouldn't matter at all if there is proper I.D. verification at voting locations.

Have you ever even been to a voting booth? Every time I've voted it's been an 80-year old woman "checking IDs", I'm pretty sure I could give her my library card and get the same result.

No offense to the elderly, just saying it's not like the TSA is running voting locations.

A lot of states DON'T require an ID! I don't remeber which states, but there were several, I think N.J. was one of them. There was a big deal about the ACLU, and a bunch of left-leaning groups being opposed to it.
    Now I know why.

If you ask me, that is the real problem, not ACORN. That association may very well be trying to help Obama, but they are probably doing more harm than good by alienating independents. In any case, the government can and should make the voting process more secure. Electronic voting, which seems to scare some people (for obvious reasons) could be part of the solution (real time verification of SSN or valid ID numbers, for example). It is incredible to me that in a huge democracy such as the U.S., we still don't trust that our votes are properly counted.

There will always be dishonest people around, just like everywhere else within our society. They are not the majority, but they cannot be ignored either. Secure transactions are a widely used technology. Surely there is a way to creat secure voting ...

Its one thing to be dishonest and another to be outloud like the Secretary did by not doing her job, that should say to her voters that she isnt worth having in the office and should be ask to resign, Im fine with winning fairly but when someone is stealing the election (the highest office)it just goes to show how low our candidates and the partisan sides will go.

Voter verification is a SOLUTION to a problem, a problem exploited and purposefully manipulated by people and in particular ACORN.

Just because there is a loophole in the system doesn't mean you can give a free pass to people immorally and illegally exploiting the loophole. ACORN knows what they are doing - manufacturing votes that should not be counted. REgardless of who those votes are for, that is illegal. One very obvious solution is better ID-ing at the polls, but that is a tough thing to get through (a lot of people fight it for a variety of reasons), so until it DOES happen a concerted effort should be put forth to stem other causes of voter fraud, including the tactics of ACORN. Right?

Isn't that a bit like saying we don't need the TSA in airports, we just have to make sure bad people can't exploit the loophole and get on airplanes with stupid ideas about explosives in their shoe? Or we don't need car alarms and electronic key fobs nor theft insurance, we just have to make sure dishonest people won't try to steal our cars? ... Most of our laws would not be needed if there were only honest people around, and most of our laws do not cure the problem of dishonest people being present in society. I'm not sure what is so different here from any other issue where society needs to protect itself from anarchy.

No no, don't get me wrong, I agree with you that the best solution is probably better identification at the polls. HOWEVER, that is a tough thing to get passed. So in the meantime, until THAT particular solution is available, we can't just let people get away with manipulating the law.

In your example, say the TSA wasn't allowed to randomly screen people. Does that mean that anyone who gets through with a bomb strapped to their chest is absolved of the crime just because we didn't have the correct measures in place to catch them?

Read up on requiring ID at the polls. It is a VERY hotly debated subject that isn't going to be resolved anytime soon, and in the meantime I feel like we have to do something about people like ACORN manipulating elections, not just let them do their thing and steal elections until the real solution is finally enacted 20 years from now.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Hopefully, with all the coverage of this on the news channels, something will be done, and investigatin ACORN thoroughly might be a part of this. There may be things happening now that have not been announced publicly as yet. Nobody should undermine Americans' confidence in the electoral process, which has already happened in the last two elections (too close for comfort, recounts, allegations ...).

You guys aren't considering mail in ballots. If you do early registration, you can get a mail in ballot and vote without ID, in many states.

Also, with stats out all the time about how many new democrat voters there are, it can have psycholigical effect on other voters. Does anybody remember the hubaloo, when the east coast had Kerry winning, and it depressed voter turnout on the west coast?
