    So I'm guessing Raytheon.

what do they have you doing that you need all that hardware?

I had all that hardware at my desk at Lockheed and it got tiresome. I had 6 monitors, 3 Windows systems, a Solaris system, an SGI system and a RedHat node for accessing the cluster manager. Yeah, I had no desk space and was constantly cleaning keyboard and mice. Honestly, I'd be happy with a KVM and one very large monitor with graphics cards that could support a resolution high enough to use the real estate effectively.

Thanks Mark for reopening this. And the saga continues....will I ever end up with that career job?

Last Friday, laid off....AGAIN. This time from a job I thought for sure had the best job security I could have ever asked for. Just goes to show no job is safe these days. My entire department was notified of being outsourced, was told we could work till December 15th, then they let us go last Friday little more than 2 weeks after the initial notice.

Oh well, I'm getting really tired of this outsourcing business, I think it's time to change my career path. Unfortunately I couldn't make it through my master's degree in time to transition to something new and now since my work stopped paying for my school, that's come to a halt as well.

Oh man that sucks! I'm so sorry Mark. They outsourced & laid off a bunch of our IT people last week as well.

Before you know it we are all going to have to move to India & Guatamala to get our old jobs back!

Matt Polk has mentioned that its ok to move in with him and his wife for a few months....but you'd have to be their houseboy.

I should mention, I received one call back so far from my resume that I sent out. They said I had an outstanding resume and strong skill set for all the jobs they are currently outsourcing. Too funny.

Dang, that sucks dude. I guess since Joe Lieberman went Independent he doesn't have the same lobbying clout he used to. Guess he can't save all the defense contractors.

Anyway, the economy is tough and jobs are scarce but they are out there. You now have a pretty big name on your resume and you're reason for leaving is not due to a lack of performance so that works out in your favor. You're a bright guy and you'll find something.

I'm probably going to put my foot in my mouth here 'cause I haven't talked to you in a while but at least you still have the bombshell of a girlfriend, right? Please say yes?

If you need a reference for any applications, you can use me, just drop me a line if you still have my contact info. If you need my contact info, just PM me.

Oh and your clearance should be good for at least a year to 18 months in a dormant state. It's not active but it's not inactive and that is a selling point if you are going for another defense job. Also, find out who is getting the outsourced jobs and apply with them. A friend of mine at Lockheed in Valley Forge had the same thing happen to him. He lost his job due to outsourcing. He applied for a job with a small defense contractor (I think it was Gnostec? I don't remember. They were out of Warminster, PA and there are several engineering firms there). When he went for the interview, he soon realized that he was applying for his own job. When he realized it, he pointed it out to the interviewer and a week later he got a job offer to work for the engineering firm at a 20% pay raise and a better benefits package. He even got his old desk back! So tug on some networking strings there and put some feelers out. You might come up with something.

I got amazingly lucky at this time last year. Computers are a passion for me, I love building/deconstructing new or old computers. I love tinkering with them to find out what's wrong, etc.

Everything I know i've taught myself, as I have never been able to afford to go to college or take any classes. That means that I have 0 "education" and no work experience (outside of family and friends).

I had just lost my job because of a car accident, and had just started a **** temp job working at a dental equipment manufacturer (some of you might know the name, A-Dec) working overnights. A friend of mine brought an opening at my old middle school to my attention, and I figured I'd put in an app out of desperation. The position was for a school tech.

I got my interview, and life went back to normal for a week or so. Then one night at work, the principal of that school called me and asked if I still wanted the position. I was like...I QUIT B!TCHES!

Anyways, went through the rest of that school year with the new job as a "temp" since I had started late in the school year, loved it. Near the end of the year we heard about the massive educational budget cuts at the state and federal level, and I was told that because of the cuts they wouldn't be rehiring any "temp" employees.

On the LAST day of work, 1 hour before I left for good, the principal came to me and told me that he had managed to save my position! The hardest part about getting a district job (probably the same as a gov job), is getting rehired after the first year. Once you do that, it takes something special for them to let you go.

Moral of the story, **** can happen, and does, a lot. You've been through it BaggedLancer. With your qualifications, I don't doubt that you'll be able to get something to tide you over until you can find your real "career" job.

That really blows. I'd still put out the feelers anyway. 2 years in to my career at Lockheed Martin, I was low man on the totem pole and facing layoffs. I called up a buddy of mine working at the same facility but in a different branch and he told me that if they laid me off, he'd snap me up in a heartbeat. He had all the paperwork ready for the transfer. Turned out I didn't need it but it was real nice to know I had an option. Just send out emails to people you know and ask if anything is open. In fact, I just went out for beers and wings with that same guy last Thursday. You'd be surprised what can come up.

And like I said, I'll be a reference. I'm more than just a character reference. I have a 12+ year background in defense work so my recommendation can carry more weight than just a character reference. The offer is there, take or leave it, ya know?

Correct, much appreciated as always. I have a ton of feelers out there, none of which are with Dell.
