    Ben's Big Cable Company

"Ben's my name, layin' cable's my game!"

It'll get ALL the ladies! Just be like "Hey good lookin', my name's Ben, wanna see my "cable"?" They'll swoon, you'll get lucky, it'll all work out!

Actually, I like Ben's Big Cable Company. Simple yet profound i a way and has a bit of a double entendre for that added bit of humor.

    So what do I win?

    Ben --

One thing that could be helpful is telling us what you are actually trying to sell. I don't mean your products, per se, but your image. This information may help us focus better on the name.

Do you see any names in this thread that you really like yet?
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I like it, too, but Ben already has a name for his company -- BWAudio. I'm sure he'll eventually manufacture other audio products, so a "cable company" would be limiting. Besides, he ain't selling HBO.

Yeah, the BWAudio thing? It's not so original. Bowers & Wilkins (aka: B&W) might have a slight problem with it since it is so close and the company is selling products that they are competing with in the market. That and any trademark suit brought against Ben, he would likely lose since B&W has been around since like 1965 or 66 I think it was and has market saturation and notoriety.

Yeah, right. I seriously doubt B&W would employ ridiculous scare tactics like Monster Cable. And having met Ben, trust me, he doesn't give a flying f**k about B&W.

Some people don't know when to STFU. But if it's an argument he wants to win, I'll tap out.

Ben if you could tell us what the level you want to market your cables too.. it would help to know where to go with them. Are you looking for the entry level market, mid level or higher?

a few last ones.. Cascade cables or silver cascades, or silverwinds, or STFU cables ;)

Well with a lot of people the more I charge them the better they will think they sound. Now if I don't charge enough people won't think they are as good as they are, but I would like to sell a product at a cheap price that is truly of high quality. $90 is more than a fair price for them. I would say that is a middle of the road cable?

    +1 STFU Cables :p

This name would be great for those who have wives. Ever get interrupted when you're listening to your tunes? Just whip out your cable, wiggle it around, and yell, "STFU!!"

i would think naming a product you build would be about as tough as naming your own child. It would be tough to do.

Naming my kids was easy. I came up with a couple ideas, and the X said no. Also I don't want to sell my kids.... yet:eek::D

The problem with naming a product is trademarks. There have been some good suggestions so far, but some might set you up for future litigation. Just thinking ahead...I like Quicksilvers ...+3 ;^).

there better names out there than Quicksilvers... and no worries about possible copyright infringement either. ;)

FWIW. Many people prefer to buy from small independent business people. Some of the cooler names that I've seen of late have been Red Wine audio, Twisted Pear, etc. Image can be a make or break thing. I would first try to personally identify with your target market, and decide what you think is most important to them. Then find a way to get the product in front of them, and give them a conduit to it.
If it's a no nonsense company model, keep the name no nonsense. If you are going boutique, use an art oriented or esoteric yet simple name that implies the benefit of owning such a product. Personally, I like the small scale, hand built aspect, and the sound from the IC itself creates the best balance I've had in my system.
