Anyone have scorpions in their house. I have only seen a few dead ones, but with the kids it kinda scares me.
Thanks
Ben

Scorpions in Georgia? That's crazy. I'd be nervous too. I'd be calling a local exterminator right about now if it were me.

Scorpions do exist in Georgia (and much of the southern states).

Luckily, the ones here are not really poisonous to the point you should be worried. They are about equivalent to a wasp or bee sting.

Exterminators cost money. I am flat flat broke. I was hoping to get a little advice on getting the little **** myself. They were down in Ft Lauderdale when I was there, but not in the house where the kids are:(

Relax, you don't need an exterminator. Just a little cleanup and if that doesn't work, possibly some powder type pesticide.

Awesome link Bill. This is a good time of year to get stung. Really thanks for that link. Very informative. Now I am back to being more worried about the crazy yellow jackets we have around here. It's bad, and they can be aggressive!

    Re: Yellow Jackets...

Yeah, especially if you mow over their hive. You'll have about 20 stings before you've even realized it!

I've been lucky because we don't really have yellow jacket in my yard. Just lots of ants. Ants, and more Ants! I'm constantly putting out traps and spraying for them ****!

    Were they IN the house??

Those spiders scare me more than scorpions. Yes I found two dead ones in the house. One was like 1/2", and the other was like 4 inches long! You're not to far from me are you?
    Ben

I lied. The bigger one was only about an inch:D

In my complex we have tons of ants. Im lucky that i've only had a few get in my apartment. I have to be careful when I take the dog out that he dosen't step on a red ant hil and get bitten. Red ant bites are the worst.

I have a bunch of scabs from those EFing ants! I was mowing the lawn in the dark, and when I went to start the mower it was giving me problems. Well you know how those **** are. They did their little countdown. 3-2-1 BITE! Not nice at all. With my health condition those little pimples turn into nice deep infected holes:(

Some times I do miss being able to drink the water, go swimming, and not have to worry about the critters. CT does have lime disease though. I can't take the cold. I broke too many bones in my neck, and back for that. Lots of herniated disks too. Me, and cold don't play nice like we used to.

Sure it does. People die every year from hypothermia, complications from frostbite, car accidents due to ice/snow, etc.

All this is a bit of over the top paranoia.

The brown recluse is not nearly as bad as its made out in some of these urban legend stories. I've never seen one in 12 years down here.

I got stung by a Yellow jacket a couple weeks ago- They made a hive in the hinge area of my Pool gate-when the gate slammed shut they swarmed, only 6 or so, but I didn't see them until I got it. Right on the back of my neck. Fricken hurt!! I'm not allergic to bees but I am allergic to pain ya see. :o It started swelling up and hurting more and more each minute-Good thing I had one of those bee sting kits handy(basically numbs the area), but it continued hurting a bit for a couple days.
The last time I was stung was probably 25-30 years ago (with the exception of Horse Fly bites-pretty damn close to a sting to me). I still have that painful memory-some assweepay was throwing rocks at a BIG hive up a tree. All I remember was the sky got dark there were so many bees-it was like a locust swarm-thousands upon thousdands of them. ahhhhh :eek: I'm now swatting at empty air-:mad::eek: nothing is there--ahhh swatting again. Damn physical memories.

I found another huge hive of YJs forming in my old car (hasn't been used in a year) They are in the gas cap, in the door wells, and the Trunk area-I 've killed some, but haven't had the nerver to open the doors or trunk yet. I do know I'll do it at dusk as suggested. On the ones in the gate, I didn't wait-the nes that were out hunting, came back but wouldn't go in, so they just went elsewhere-If I waited I could've gotten them all from that hive. :(

I heard that some people who aren't allergic to something as a kid could become allergic as an adult-It was always my fear that might happen to me-but at least nothing happend (except the pain part).

Good luck getting rid of them.

The little guys don't have much of a sting. A well watered lawn tends to
keep them away. Do you have firewood stacked up next to the house,
or landscaping timbers? That would be a common place to find them.
Note: you can see them at night with a blacklight.
    http://ag.arizona.edu/pubs/insects/az1223/

My problem is freakin fire ants. They seem to be everywhere this year. I keep
a bag of mound killer with me when mowing the lawn. Five damn nests this
weekend. Note 2: fire ants tend to kill off the scorpions. Some tradeoff!

No fatalities in the last 20 years due to scorpion stings:)
No firewood, or anything on the house. I am not concerned so much anymore. Freaky looking, but I won't lose sleep over it.
    Thanks guys.

I haven't found a scorp in my house yet, but I fully expect to at sometime. You don't live in the part of Tucson I do and not have issues at some point in time.

I got stung by a scorpion when I was around 12. To my surprise, it didnt hurt any worse than a yellow jacket. I thought they were supposed to be way worse, but it wasn't. Later I found out the ones we have are about equal to a yellow jacket.

Now a brown recluse on the other hand...those things are just mean and will leave a nice little crater where ever they get you.
