I would say this is the last straw especially when the mods are starting to get challenged for doing their job (that wreaks of a forum out of control).

Hopefully if polk does give the forum a second chance, the chest pounding attitudes here will cease to exist and common courtesy and respect will return.

One definite way to make sure that happens is to strictly enforce the forum rules word for word with no exceptions.

Well Carl, you could take the lead on this.

Set the example and reply to your thread where I asked for 6 simple tasks from you. I suspect you will not only get a public apology from me, but about 10 or more from other polk forum members. That will go a long ways towards returning civility to the forum.

Deal, or no deal?

If you object to any of the 6 items, single that one out and we can deal with that separately.

This fellow broke the rules here and on ebay both and we are the bad guys because we dont like it and say so

None of this would be even be brought up if the orginal poster Elektra or Tring Trang or whatever he calls himself now had followed the rules and got 25 posts and offered his goods for sale.

We have rules but dont enforce them. I took a break from club polk because of things like this.

And perhaps the talk gets a little tough at times but if we all were nice then where exactly do you think would have happened with the deal on the $500.00 amp sale that got brought up?

Trust me on this the seller would still be waiting on his check! the only reason that the seller was sent his check was because there was a show of soldarity.

As far as threats I hadnt seen anyone get threatned. No one actually said ok a$$_hole im coming to break your legs or any such talk.

If you want to listen every time someone sends you a complaint that someone called them a name so be it, its your forum and you can do whatever you wish, but I beleive that you are going to start losing the backbone of this board with that decision.

All for someone who has a handful of posts and will most likely never be a viable thriving posting member

Brett, I think that you have offered some rock solid advice. I'm not going to cast judgement on Carl. What he posts doesn't affect me one way or the other, but if I didn't like what he had to say I would just ignore by choice or put him on ignore, unless he started egregiously violating forum rules. Then the issue should be broached with the mods. Insulting him isn't going to get me anywhere.

I also wanted to raise one other issue that is not related in particular to the SDA-Ebay issue. I have no interest in inserting myself into that debate -- in fact, I wasn't even aware of what happened until after a sticky was posted on it.

Rather, I wanted to bring up the issue of ad hominem attacks, which extends far beyond the issue of this particular thread -- it occurs quite frequently and I believe is the source of much unecessary strife here. And while people often cite the rule against discussion of politics, religion, guns etc, I believe that the forum rule against personal attacks/put downs is actually more crucial to upholding a modicum of civil discourse. Breach that rule and all of the sudden the conversation turns ugly fast. For example, a discussion of politics -- even by people who vehemently disagree with each other -- is not in and of itself problematic. The real problem arises when one particular person feels compelled not to challenge but rather attack personally an individual with an opposing viewpoint. Naturally, that person is offended and feels the need to fire back and suddenly we are no longer having a discussion about politics/religion, but about who can offer the best one liners at the other's expense. Egos get bruised, other people jump in and nothing really positive comes out. Sure, delivering the one-line ad hominem attack is an easy thing to do. It can please the ego and it may even give others (who agree) a chuckle, but I believe the ultimate consequence is to impede the basic spirit of the forum which is collegiality and enhancing collective knowlege of audio-related things.

Yes, I'm quite new here; and I've got a low post count, to boot! The folks here have saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars and countless hours of wasted time. I do really appreciate it and look forward to continue learning and sharing the little I know. I also believe that there is an admirable family spirit at Club Polk, as people look out for their "brothers" and "sisters". That said, I think if people thought twice before delivering the zinging personal attack it might cut down on the number of trite exchanges and create an even better environment for all.

Even if they do quote him, that doesn't obligate people to respond to it.

Best bet for people is to just expect his posts to be useless, then you won't be disappointed and feel the need to respond to them.....his posts can be useless all on their own without anyone feeling the need to point them out as useless.......

If putting him on ignore is your way of bypassing his stuff, great..............if people quote him and you still happen to see his ramblings, who cares.........move on, don't respond..........there is absolutely zero need to interact with him..........especially if all you want to do is lay into him about what a useless member of the forum he is.........he knows this.........it's why he posts what he does and then gets all giddy when people give him the type of attention that most everyone does.........

I'd say after y'all goin at it with him for as long as you have it will take some time to get into the habit of completely ignoring him..........but it can be done..........

For the most part, I'd say that the personal attacks are short lived and moved on from after a short time.........it's the ones that are out to incite people into getting that way that I have a problem with, and when they make every effort to clearly irritate people, those are the ones that get labeled as such and tend to get ganged up on.

I've had it out pretty brutally with a few over the years, and the bottom line is that eventually things self-right themselves. Sometimes the only subtlety that people understand is in the form of a brick to the head (no, that's not a Los Angeles reference)......ya know?

If this is an Excellent post, then you know what........................I don't care what people do or who they do it to on this list. The two incidents that Tugboat mentions were clearly (without a doubt) troublemakers and scammers who got called out. If that's considered mob mentality, then let all the scammers and low life's come on in and take advantage.

Electra was told nicely that he was waaayyyyy off base and he responded back in a hostile way and he got the responses he deserved based on his antagonistic approach.

Toddco just completely failed to follow thru on his word. Hawkeye had every right to call him out in public. Toddco was then belligerent in every response to the forum, so what do you expect?

I'm glad Tring Trang apologized but I can guarantee you if the forum as a whole hadn't made his life a bit of a hell he wouldn't feel the need to plead his case. It would have been business as usual and some unsuspecting person would have gotten the short end of the stick. Wait, they did!! Last time I checked Deepbass didn't get the speakers he won fair and square.

It's not called e-choose.............you can't choose after the fact if you want to sell them or not to a particular person for a particular price. A closed auction is a binding contract. Does someone have to loose money to be "harmed"? You obviously didn't take any law courses in college.

As others mentioned, you bring up some excellent points. I've been doing my best to ignore and not respond to him. My problem lies where he spreads technical misinformation and constantly contradicts himself. If anyone here is doing Polk a disservice, it's him.

Let someone from Polk step in and correct him if he's wrong. I understand the intent on trying to help someone that's getting incorrect information........but send them a PM or something giving them the correct information so you aren't responding to him in a thread that WILL get locked.

Know who gets harmed by him having it hard for some old tweeters? Definitely not me.......i could care less about him personally, therefore won't be bothered to contribute to his threads........

Many of you guys have a serious case of point your finger at someone else and try to make it look like it is all their fault.

The mob behavior is getting more and more attention from newbies and not so new members alike. So much so that it can't be explained away anymore as coincidence or as a weakling crying for his mommy (i.e. the mob behavior is there even if it is not a organized or intended behavior).

I definitely read and understood Justin's warning and will act accordingly.
