Good read Face. As I told you last week, sounds good in the car, sounds like crap on the 2-channel rig. I still like the album though. -
LMFAO.....Great read by the way. I could go on but whats the point. Either you like them or you don't. You either care about the recording quality or you don't. Real simple. Looks like a lot of fans care about what they pay for.

I think the article that Demiurge posted is dead on. However, I'll add another perspective....
Compared to their former self, I don't think there's any question that they're not as good, and their work isn't as good. But why do we need to make those comparisons? How does their stuff match up against the other stuff that's out today? That's the important question.
Having said that, I don't like the album much at all. Compared to other mainstrea rock bands, I suppose it holds up fairly well, but in the grand scheme of hard rock and metal, there are better options. -
And yes the recording quality is crap, but I don't think you can really blame the band for that...
However, if I did like the music, that alone would probably prevent me from buying the album -

The posts at some these forums are effin' priceless. Someone said James sounded like a kazoo.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

If they were a band putting out their debut album, I would agree, but Metallica is a cash cow, with a LOT of pull with regards to the label they are signed to. The producer (Rubin) has the most influence over the final sound, but a band with Metallica's clout, could have trumped the producer before the disc was pressed.
In this case, the band is ultimately responsible for putting out a bad sounding product. An up-and-coming band will not have as much say. -

Metallica didn't put Dallas on the recent tour supporting Death Magnetic so I had ran out to Denver to catch the show this week. I got general admission floor seats and was able to get right up front on the rail. Broken, Beat & Scarred was the highlight for me with the whole crowd chanting the chorus. The show was straight slamming. Opening song was That was just your life. They closed with Last Caress and encored Hit the lights, and Seek and Destroy. They played Master and Damage, Inc which I was surprised to hear. Thankfully nothing off of St. Anger in the 21 song set list. Great show, even if you don't like the new one worth checking out. They still have a lot of live energy and Lars kit sounded way better than the new album.
We went down in the basement and tried to get into the after party with the bands but no password. Our **** didn't fly but we tried..My Main Gear

I found a great use for this CD.
It sounds great at 90dB+ on our KLH and TEAC workout rig at work."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche
