I have run an amp rated at 450WPC @ 4 ohms into my LSi15s and was surprised that it clipped at a level that didn't seem too much above the 100/150 wpc amps that I normally run.

500 WPC is only 6db above the 125 wpc of your previous amp. Not truly noticeable to your ears, once your ears start to compensate for the extreme volume.

Different speakers that failed [L/R] or the same one? Or both?

Damn dude you smoked that resistor. I would recommend getting some Mill's 12 watters, but I am scared you are going to fry your tweeters. I may have missed it. Did your tweeters stop working, or your woofers, or both.

Where is your bass manager set at on the pre?
Hate to quote myself, but I have a date with the pillow. Have you tried a factory reset? / default on the pre?

That's 5 watts, 2 ohms. If you move up to a Mills 12 watt, 2 ohm the resistors will handle more heat, but if you keep cranking it to -23, you're going to start frying the tweeters. You need to keep the volume level lower regardless.

Darn I knew you were going to say that. :) I will take your advise and try the Mills 12watt,2 ohm and keep it down a bit.

Since you feel your LSi's need more treble, you may want to check out the RTiA series.

Just remember, when you get the urge to crank it, resistors cost a helluva lot less than new tweeters.

Bingo you are all set if you can exercise a little control. The higher up the food chain you go the more important it is to watch out for distortion. If you hear any it is time to back off a notch. I know this all to well;) If you can solder while you are in there I would recommend replacing all the resistors. Just do one at a time. I have not looked at the diagram for that speaker, but it is posted here at Polk. I'll get it.
