Workin' it. They aren't getting paid by the hour. He already gave me a set price. I asked him why they are working so late and he said 'because we have to'. Basically most of the wait is for the stuff to dry in between coats.

Told you it'd be a long day. You will give those guys a phone number so you can give them glowing references, won't you. That is if the job turns out, which I think it will.

As a matter of fact you should be on the way out to get some pizza and beer, you know. They did pull your **** outa the hole, it would be a nice gesture.

You are right but I can't leave. I plan on paying them more than he quoted so they can buy their own pizza and beer. How's that?

Not just this job but what it means to me right now in my life with the mess I have going on. Deep? Maybe but I think it's true.

No, I was talking about a customer that appreciates good help. You!
I just spent the past week covering 1/2 the state of SC by myself during a heat wave, and people don't give a f*ck about excuses. So, your appreciation is appreciated.

I like the second set of photo's Darla. But, I'm partial to color. Did you darken the room to sleep during the day when you are on shifts? Nice job! And the bed looks cozy, do you have a TV and sound rig in there?;)

Thank you kind Sir. I am very loyal and I appreciate and reward quality and a preofessional ethic. These boys were stellar.

It's not my room and I only have the one dark accent wall. The rest are a nice biscuit colour. The adjoining office is all chocolate though. No surround sound to speak of. The owner doesn't really care about that.

THAT looks excellent! I'm glad it worked out for you!

I'm sorry that you had to deal with such a bad experience. I know it doesn't help nor is it always easy or feasible for someone to do but that is why I learned to do alot of that kind of stuff myself. So I wouldn't have to rely on half-assed monkeys like that first guy.

I definitely learned a hard lesson there. Next time I will know. "Ahem. Excuse me but exactly why are you just painting over compound? I don't think so."

Well, you can get away with it with light colors because they reflect so much light that they wash out the reflections of the uneven surface. Flat colors or semi-gloss colors mask it well too. But just like how a black car shows every bit of dirt, every nick and scratch but also every body line and joint, black paint on a wall will show every nail pop, every compounded joint and every surface imperfection.

Painting is 90% prep work. If you don't prep properly, it will show like a sore thumb.

Is that color called "doo doo brown"? If so, I like it. If not, I still like it.

Yes they are and trust me the are really nice. Maybe the pics aren't doing it justice but it's gorgeous. And it's an accent wall. You know..drama and all that.

It's actually called British Brown by Pratt & Lambert but in effect to me it's nice and chocolaty. Just what I was going for.

Her adjoining bathroom has traces of those colors too so it flows color-wise not to mention the homeowner likes dark dark dark. Hence the new lighting going in. The room was a cave before and now it's nice and bright but she will still think 'dark' with the wall. I almost went with black!:D

I think the brown looks good. It'll keep the room appearing quite dark but since it's only on one wall, it won't make it look smaller. Putting the small pictures on the dark wall will break up the wall so that it's not an ominous field of brown that is imposing in the room. On top of that, because the pictures are bright on a dark wall, they will look bigger than they are. So have 3 walls a brighter color kinda anchors the room on the focal point of a bedroom, the bed. To keep the room looking dark but not really, dark furniture and curtains that match the dark brown, contrasting wall will be best. They will keep the 3 bright walls and ceiling from being too bright and washing out the brown wall and they will keep the 3 brighter walls from looking sparse and barren.

Some darker colored throw rugs on a lighter carpet will tie stuff down too. I would go with a light colored comforter on the bed with dark sheets and a couple medium toned throw pillows like a tan or medium brown and a couple dark colored throw pillows.

The room looks good, lotsa potential beyond what is already there. Hope your friend likes it! If not, make sure you have the "attitude adjuster" handy.

Jstas, with a reply like that I can see why you drive a Lightning, to help keep things balanced out. :D

On a serious note, the room looks really good Darla. I think she will be very pleased. Has she seen the work done along the way or will all of this be a total surprise? Either way, great job and vision for the finished product based on your "client's" preferences.

Are you talking the texture or the paint?

If it's texture, it'll need to be texture matched. If the paint has flatter gloss spots where the now patches are, the patches will need to be primed, something a painter should've known.

I learned about priming sheetrock and joint compound the hard way.

Use a primer like Gripper and NOT Kilz. Kilz will leave a sheen where the primer meets the joint compound. Gripper will be flat and accept the paint to match the surrounding areas.
